🐧 wedding
Dawn groaned, rubbing her temples. “Why me?” she muttered under her breath.
Kenny stood beside her, looking just as flustered. “I think the real question is, why us?”
“Shush!” Mia called from the makeshift altar at the end of the garden. “The ceremony is about to begin!”
The "guests"—Ash, Misty, Brock, Drew, May, and even Professor Oak—sat in mismatched chairs, dressed in whatever formal wear Mia had managed to scrounge up. Ash leaned over to Misty. “What’s going on?”
Misty shrugged, looking as bewildered as he did. “I think we’re... at Kenny and Dawn’s wedding?”
“What?!” Dawn hissed, glaring daggers at her niece. “Mia! This isn’t funny!”
“Oh, it’s not a joke,” Mia said with a serious nod. “Love is serious business. Now, take your places!”
Avery clapped her hands. “Come on, Aunt Dawn! Mommy says you gotta listen to the wedding planner!”
“This is insanity,” Kenny muttered, glancing nervously at the crowd. He froze when he caught Drew smirking. “Stop enjoying this!”
Drew raised a glass of sparkling cider. “Cheers to the happy couple!”
Mia silenced everyone with a dramatic wave of her hand. “We will now begin. Uncle Kenny, your vows.”
Kenny’s jaw dropped. “My what?”
Mia held up a neatly folded piece of paper. “Don’t worry, I wrote them for you. Read this.”
He took the paper reluctantly, skimming it with growing horror. “Mia, this is… this is…”
“Beautiful, right?” she said with a satisfied grin. “Go ahead.”
Kenny gave Dawn an apologetic glance. “Sorry in advance.”
He cleared his throat dramatically. “Dawn, from the moment we met, you have been the light in my life, the moon to my stars, the melody to my song—”
Dawn gasped. “MIA!”
Mia beamed proudly. “Keep going!”
Kenny sighed, resigned. “Your kindness and beauty brighten even my darkest days. I vow to cherish you, to support you, and to always let you choose the movie on movie nights.”
The crowd stifled laughter. May wiped a fake tear. “So romantic.”
Dawn looked like she wanted to crawl into a hole. “Mia, you’re so grounded after this.”
“Shush!” Mia snapped. “Your turn!”
Dawn reluctantly took her own slip of paper. She skimmed it quickly and groaned. “This is worse than his!”
Mia crossed her arms. “If you don’t read it, I’ll tell everyone what happened with the pasta incident.”
Dawn’s face turned crimson. “You wouldn’t.”
“Try me.”
Dawn groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. “Fine.” She took a deep breath and began. “Kenny, you are my best friend, my partner in crime, and the only one who laughs at my terrible jokes.”
Kenny raised a brow. “Terrible’s an understatement.”
“Shush!” Mia snapped again.
Dawn continued, her voice dripping with embarrassment. “I vow to always be there for you, to laugh with you, and to never judge you when you eat three bowls of ramen in one sitting.”
“I feel attacked,” Kenny muttered.
“Good,” Dawn said before turning back to Mia. “Can we please stop now?”
“Nope!” Mia said brightly. “Now for the rings!”
“RINGS?!” Kenny and Dawn shouted in unison.
Mia grinned as she held out a small velvet box. “Ta-da! Real wedding rings. Mommy let me borrow them.”
Avery clapped excitedly. “They’re so pwetty!”
“Mia,” Dawn said through gritted teeth, “you are in so much trouble—”
“Put them on,” Mia commanded. “Or else.”
With a collective sigh of defeat, Kenny and Dawn slid the rings onto each other’s fingers, their faces bright red.
“And now,” Mia declared with a flourish, “you may kiss!”
“WHAT?!” they both shouted, stepping back as if the idea physically repelled them.
“You have to! It’s tradition!” Avery added, her big eyes pleading.
“No way!” Dawn said firmly.
“Not happening,” Kenny agreed.
Mia folded her arms, her eyes narrowing dangerously. “You better kiss, or I’ll tell everyone what really happened on Kenny’s birthday.”
Dawn gasped. “You wouldn’t.”
“Try me,” Mia said with a smirk.
Avery began chanting. “Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!”
Soon, the entire “guest list” joined in. “KISS! KISS! KISS!”
Finally, Dawn groaned. “Fine! But this doesn’t mean anything!”
“Agreed,” Kenny said quickly.
They leaned in awkwardly, their faces inches apart. “This is the worst day of my life,” Dawn muttered.
“Mine too,” Kenny replied.
And with that, they gave the briefest, most awkward peck in history. The crowd erupted into cheers and applause.
Mia clapped her hands together. “And that’s how you do a wedding!”
Dawn glared at her. “You are so grounded.”
“Totally worth it,” Mia said with a grin.
