🐧 shipping wedding
As Dawn and Kenny were shoved out into the backyard, they found it transformed into an over-the-top wedding venue. Strings of fairy lights twinkled overhead, folding chairs were set up in neat rows, and a makeshift altar, complete with floral arrangements, stood waiting for the "bride and groom."
Mia stood at the center of it all, clipboard in hand, looking every bit the overzealous wedding planner. Avery clutched a basket of flower petals, giggling as she threw them randomly at Kenny and Dawn.
"Take your places!" Mia commanded, pointing to the altar.
"Places?!" Dawn exclaimed, glaring. "Mia, what is all this?!"
"It's your wedding, obviously," Mia said matter-of-factly. "Now, get moving! The guests are waiting!"
Dawn shot Kenny a desperate look. "Do something!"
"What do you want me to do?!" Kenny hissed. "She's like a tiny dictator with flower power!"
Before they could argue further, Mia shoved them into position, and they reluctantly stood at the altar.
Ash, Misty, Brock, Drew, and May sat in the audience, looking bewildered.
"This is... something," Brock muttered.
"I think it's adorable," May whispered, snapping photos with her phone. "They'll treasure these memories forever."
Dawn and Kenny exchanged a glare, both clearly thinking, We are going to kill Mia.
Mia cleared her throat dramatically. "Welcome, friends and family, to this joyous occasion! We are gathered here to witness the union of Aunt Dawn and Uncle Kenny in holy matrimony. Now, Uncle Kenny, your vows."
"What?! I didn't—" Kenny froze as Mia whipped out a piece of paper. "Wait, what’s that?"
"Your vows. I wrote them for you since I knew you'd mess it up," Mia said sweetly, handing him the paper.
Kenny stared at it, his face draining of color. "Mia, I can't say this. It's—it's too—"
"Read it," Mia ordered, crossing her arms. "Or no cake."
Dawn smirked at Kenny. "Go on, dear, don’t disappoint the ‘guests.’"
Kenny groaned but began reading, his voice dripping with sarcasm at first until the sheer romanticism of the words overwhelmed him.
"Dawn, from the moment I saw you, the world felt brighter. Your laugh is the melody my soul didn't know it needed, and your smile lights up even my darkest days. I vow to stand by you, cherish you, and love you endlessly, for you are my everything."
The audience collectively gasped, and Kenny looked like he wanted to dig a hole and hide forever. "This is so sappy, I'm gonna puke," he muttered under his breath.
Dawn, however, was beet red. "Mia, what is this nonsense?!"
"It's called romance," Mia replied smugly. "Your turn, Aunt Dawn."
Dawn hesitated but accepted her own piece of paper. She glanced at Kenny, then at Mia, and sighed. "Fine. But this doesn’t mean I agree with any of this."
Her voice softened as she read:
"Kenny, you are the anchor that keeps me grounded and the wings that help me soar. Your kindness, your humor, and your unwavering support make every moment better. I vow to walk beside you, to lift you when you're down, and to love you with all my heart for all my days."
Kenny blinked at her, genuinely speechless. "Okay, that was... a lot."
"You're telling me," Dawn muttered, her cheeks burning. "I didn't write it!"
"Now for the rings!" Mia announced, pulling out a small velvet box.
"Wait, are those real rings?!" Kenny yelped.
"Yep," Mia said proudly. "I borrowed them from Mom's jewelry box."
"Mia!" Dawn groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Exchange the rings and say 'I do,'" Mia instructed, ignoring their protests.
Reluctantly, they slipped the rings onto each other's fingers.
"Say it!" Avery chirped.
Dawn and Kenny exchanged another glare. "I do," they said simultaneously, their voices dripping with irritation.
"And now," Mia said with a flourish, "you may kiss."
"Not happening," Dawn said flatly.
"Yeah, no way," Kenny agreed.
Avery frowned, crossing her arms. "If you don't, the wedding's not official."
With exaggerated reluctance, they leaned in and pecked each other on the cheek. The crowd erupted in applause, though Ash looked thoroughly confused, and Brock seemed to be enjoying the chaos far too much.
Mia clapped her hands together. "Perfect! Now, Aunt Dawn, just wait ten months, and you'll have a baby boy named Denny and a girl named Fawn!"
"WHAT?!" Dawn shrieked.
"That's not how it works!" Kenny added, his voice going up an octave.
Mia shrugged. "You'll see. You're married now. That’s how it works."
As the chaos ensued, with Dawn and Kenny trying to explain basic biology to an unbothered Mia, the rest of the guests enjoyed the cake Mia had somehow procured.
"Well," Drew said, taking a bite, "this is the weirdest wedding I’ve ever been to."
"And the funniest," May added, snapping another picture of Dawn chasing Mia around the yard.
It was a wedding no one would ever forget, least of all Kenny and Dawn.
