" Hey Dawn! What's up?"
Dawg groaned. " Kenny, I need help with my nieces."
" Okay, I'm coming!"
" Wait, you're not gonna tease me?*
Kenny grinned. " I'll tease you in front of the kids."
Dawn groaned.
When Kenny stepped into the house, he ducked as a block soared through the sky
" Avery! Stop that!" Dres scolded, then waved at her boy. " Hi Kenny!"
" Wook, Mia!" Avery yelled, pointing at Drew. " It's Aunt Dawn's husband!"
Kenny blinked, and Drew choked on her breath. " What?!"
Averh gave an innocent smile. " Yeah! Mommy say when two people wike eat oder, dey mawy!"
" Did they say that?" Dawn's asked with a dark expression . " Your mom is in big trouble."
Mia, Avery's ten year old sister, looked up from her tablet. " Hmmmm...." She said, surveying Kenny and Daen. " No, this will not do."
Dawn blinked. " What will not do?"
Mia ignored. " Aunt Dawn, go into that bathroom._ she said, pointing to one. " And uncle Kenny, the other."
" But wh-"
Avery shot Dawn a look, and a sweatdrop appeared on her head. " Okay okay...."
When they came out, they blinked and stared at one another.
Dawn was wearing a pale blue gown with a pink veil. Kenny was wearing a white starched shirt with a pale green vest
" Uh.... You look nice?" Kennt offered.
Dawn gave him a look " you don't look half bad yourself."
" Hey!" He exclaimed. But before he could say another word, Mia came in.
" Ah, good. You two are ready. Come on, the guests are waiting."
" What are the guests for?* Dawn asked.
" Your wedding."
" OUR WEDDING?!" they yelled.
But before they could say anything else, Lily had already thrown them out.
When Dawn stood, the first thing she saw was Ash, Misty, Brock, and May confused and dressed in fancy attire.
" Uh..... Who's the wedding for?" Misty asked, confused.
Dawn groaned as she was shoved out into the makeshift "wedding venue" that Mia had orchestrated in the backyard. Streamers of toilet paper hung from the trees, and a haphazard aisle of flower petals led to an overturned bucket doubling as an altar. Ash, Misty, Brock, May, and even Drew sat in mismatched lawn chairs, all looking equally confused and amused.
“What is going on?” Dawn hissed under her breath to Kenny, who stood beside her, adjusting his oversized green vest.
“No idea,” Kenny muttered. “But I think we’re in trouble.”
Before either could escape, Mia appeared with Avery trailing behind her, a smug grin on her face. “Good, everyone’s here!” she announced. “Now, let’s begin the ceremony!”
“This is ridiculous,” Dawn said, glaring at Mia. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Mia crossed her arms. “You like Uncle Kenny, right?”
Dawn hesitated. “I mean, I guess he’s okay—”
“And Uncle Kenny likes you, right?”
“Wait a minute—” Kenny started, but Mia cut him off with a sharp wave of her hand.
“Then it’s settled! Mommy said when two people like each other, they get married!” Mia declared.
Dawn and Kenny exchanged mortified looks. “Mia, that’s not how this works!” Kenny exclaimed.
“Too late,” Mia said with a devilish grin. She gestured to Avery, who stepped forward holding a glitter-covered notebook. “Now, we’ll start with the vows. Uncle Kenny, you’re first.”
“What vows?” Kenny asked, suspicious.
Mia smirked and handed him the notebook. “I wrote them for you. You’re welcome.”
Kenny opened the notebook and paled. “Oh no,” he whispered. “Oh no, no, no.”
“What?” Dawn demanded. “What does it say?”
Mia cleared her throat dramatically. “Read it, Uncle Kenny! With feeling!”
Kenny sighed, shooting Dawn an apologetic glance before beginning. “Dawn…from the moment I met you, I knew you were someone special,” he read in a monotone voice.
“More feeling!” Mia snapped.
Kenny gritted his teeth and tried again, now overly dramatic. “You light up every room you walk into, and your smile is like sunshine on the darkest day.”
Dawn’s face turned red as everyone in the “audience” stifled laughter. “Are you serious right now?” she muttered.
“I would climb the highest mountain, swim the deepest sea, and—” Kenny choked, unable to continue. “This is ridiculous!”
“Keep going!” Mia ordered.
With a groan, Kenny finished, “And I promise to always be by your side, no matter what. I love you, Dawn.”
The silence that followed was deafening, broken only by a muffled snicker from Ash.
Dawn, completely flustered, turned to Mia. “There’s no way I’m saying anything like that!”
“Oh, but you are,” Mia said, holding up another glittery notebook. “Your turn.”
“I’m going to kill you,” Dawn muttered, snatching the notebook and flipping it open. She skimmed the page and groaned. “Mia, you’re lucky you’re ten.”
“Read!” Mia insisted, clapping her hands.
Dawn sighed heavily and began, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Kenny, you’ve always been there for me, through thick and thin.”
Kenny snorted, earning a glare from her.
“And even though you drive me crazy sometimes,” she continued, “I can’t imagine life without you. You’re my best friend, my partner in crime, and the person I trust most in the world.”
Mia beamed, completely ignoring the daggers Dawn was shooting her way. “Now, time for the kiss!”
“WHAT?!” Kenny and Dawn shouted in unison.
“You can’t have a wedding without a kiss!” Mia declared, clapping her hands together.
“No way!” Dawn said firmly.
“Absolutely not,” Kenny agreed.
Avery stepped forward with a frown, hands on her hips. “If you don’t kiss, I’ll tell Mommy you didn’t play along.”
“You little—” Dawn began, but Kenny sighed in defeat.
“Let’s just get this over with,” he muttered.
Dawn gaped at him. “Are you serious?!”
Kenny shrugged. “The quicker we do it, the quicker this nightmare is over.”
With everyone watching, they awkwardly leaned in, both clearly reluctant. At the last second, Dawn squeezed her eyes shut, and their lips brushed in the quickest, most uncomfortable kiss in history.
The kids cheered wildly, while the adults burst into laughter. Dawn pulled away immediately, her face bright red. “I’m going to remember this, Mia,” she muttered darkly.
Kenny rubbed the back of his neck, avoiding eye contact. “Yeah, thanks for that.”
As the “ceremony” wrapped up, Dawn and Kenny exchanged a look. They might never live this down, but one thing was certain—they’d be keeping a much closer eye on Mia from now on.
