Luminaw
Wisty yawned as she took her seat at the table next to Ash and Gary. " Mornin'."
" Morning, Wisty. Did you sleep well?" Ash asked.
Wisty nodded sluggishly. " Oh yeah. Best sleep of all ti...."
Her face hit the table.
" Wisty!"
Wisty shot up. " What happened?!"
Ash blinked. " Wisty..... are you okay?
Wisty nodded. " Sure I am. Why?"
" Toge toge!"
Wisty looked at her leg to see her baby girl hugging it.
" Awwwww, what's my wittle baby doing?" Wisty cooed as she picked Togepi up.
" Priiiii!"
" Eve!" Eevee exclaimed as she climbed on Wisty's shoulder.
Wisty rubbed Eve's cheek with hers. " And good morning to you!"
Suddenly Professor Rowan cleared his throat. " Attention, everybody."
All eyes turned to him.
" Today we're going to be having a special video call from the esteemed Professor Oak!"
A cheer went up, and everyone was excited.
Except Wisty.
She was too busy with Growlithe, Chikorita, Eevee, Togepi and Houndour.
" Wisty, did ya hear the news?" Ash asked.
Wisty didn't even look up. " Ash, I'm his assistant, remember?"
" Alongside Tracey." Brock piped in.
Dawn blinked. " Who?"
" He's a Pokemon Watcher." Ash informed.
" Oooooooh! Is he good at poetry too?"
" Yes. Very good. Though the one time he said one to Ash he got annoyed." Wisty said as she fed Togepi some fruit.
" I haven't seen Gramps for a while. It'll be good to see him." Gary piped in.
" Good morning to you-"
Wisty ran to the screen. " What's the emergency is there a new Pokemon do you need me to get you your medicine did you run out of-"
Ash sighed. " Wisty, he called because he has a presentation for us. Can you please-"
" He didn't answer my question! Is there a mission I'll go on a mission! To the Forest okay Professor!"
And then she ran out.
Professor Oak blinked. " Uh....."
Professor Oak looked at the screen, visibly perplexed. "Well, that's... energetic."
Ash let out a groan, slumping in his seat. "She's always like this when Oak shows up. Always thinks he's calling her for some super-important mission."
Gary smirked, leaning back in his chair. "Can you blame her? Gramps does have a habit of turning casual conversations into life-or-death scenarios."
Professor Rowan cleared his throat, regaining the group's attention. "Be that as it may, we'll proceed with the presentation. I'm sure Wisty will tire herself out and return before it's over."
"Don't count on it," Brock muttered as he handed Dawn a plate of pancakes.
Meanwhile, outside, Wisty was sprinting full speed into the nearby forest, her Pokémon bounding after her in confusion. Togepi clung tightly to her shoulder, chirping worriedly.
"Don't worry, Togepi!" Wisty called over her shoulder. "We've got to be prepared for anything! If there's a new Pokémon out there, it's our job to find it first!"
"Priii!" Togepi squealed, though it didn't seem entirely convinced.
Eevee, Chikorita, Growlithe, and Houndour exchanged weary glances but dutifully followed.
Back in the lab, Professor Oak was now diving into a discussion about Pokémon migration patterns. The campers were captivated, leaning forward in their seats, while Ash kept glancing nervously toward the door.
"Shouldn't someone go after her?" he whispered to Brock.
Brock shook his head. "If you go, you'll just make her more excited. Let her run it out."
"But what if she-"
Ash's protest was interrupted by a loud CRASH from the direction of the forest. Everyone turned to look, startled.
"Oh no," Gary muttered, his smirk fading. "That sounded bad."
Before anyone could react, Wisty came barreling back into the lab, her clothes torn and her face smudged with dirt. She was panting heavily, clutching a terrified-looking Togepi in one arm and dragging a giant, unusual-looking Poké Ball behind her.
"I FOUND IT!" she screamed triumphantly.
"Found what?" Rowan demanded, his voice rising with exasperation.
Wisty dumped the massive Poké Ball onto the ground with a loud THUD. "The new Pokémon! It's HUGE! And it's MAD!"
As if on cue, an earth-shaking roar echoed from the forest. Everyone froze, their eyes wide.
Oak's calm demeanor cracked for a moment. "Well, that's... unexpected."
Ash leapt to his feet. "Wisty, what did you do?!"
"I CAUGHT IT!" she declared proudly, ignoring the chaos she'd unleashed.
"Yeah, but what did you catch?!" Gary shouted.
The Poké Ball began to tremble violently. Wisty looked at it and grinned. "Guess we're about to find out!"
The ball popped open, and out came.....
A small, ethereal creature with a translucent body. It had large, luminescent eyes and delicate, flowing appendages.
Wisty grinned and took out Ash's original Poke Dex.
" Time to update you, Dexter."
" What now?" Dexter asked in his exasperated voice.
Wisty rolled her eyes. " Scan."
Dexter let out a sassy sigh but obeyed, and Wisty walked around the animal, moving the phone up and down while the others watched.
When she was done, she turned to Eevee. " Eevee, what's this Pokemon's name?"
"Luminaw!" The pokemon exclaimed.
All eyes turned to it.
" Eevee! Evevevevveve! Eevee eve ev evee evevevve eve eve eevee eveee evee!"
Wisty grinned. " Thanks girl!"
Ash blinked. " Mind translating?"
" Luminaw. A Psychic/Fairy. A small, ethereal creature with a translucent body. It has large, luminescent eyes and delicate, flowing appendages. Its body glows softly, changing colors based on its emotions. Luminaw are said to be the guardians of ancient ruins, using their psychic powers to protect hidden knowledge. They are rarely seen, appearing only to those who are pure of heart."
Gary blinked. " Moves?"
" Psychic: A powerful psychic attack that can also confuse the target. Moonblast: A Fairy-type move that heals the user and damages the opponent. Dazzling Gleam: A quick, powerful Fairy-type attack. Calm Mind: Boosts the user's Special Attack and Special Defense."
" An-"
" Its abilities are- Illusionary Mist: Reduces the accuracy of attacks against Luminaw. Psychic Shield: Protects Luminaw from status conditions and lowers the Special Attack stat of opponents."
Ash blinked. " That's.... amazing."
Wisty grinned. " Yeah, but..... I'm naming it Lumi."
" Why?!" A camper asked.
" ' Cause I feel it deserves an actual name. We're humans, but we don't call each other ' human'! We have names! And I think they deserve names too."
Professor Oak, who had been observing the entire spectacle via the video call, leaned forward with an intrigued expression. "Fascinating! A Luminaw, you say? That's quite the discovery, Wisty! But I must admit, you've outdone yourself-again."
Lumi hovered gracefully in the air, its body glowing a soft lavender hue as it floated toward Wisty. It chirped happily and circled her, nuzzling against her cheek.
"Aw, you like me, huh?" Wisty cooed, gently petting Lumi's delicate appendages. "Don't worry, little one. I'll take care of you."
"Luminaw!" the Pokémon chirped, its glow intensifying as it snuggled into her arms.
Gary crossed his arms, smirking. "Looks like Lumi's already picked its favorite trainer."
Ash chuckled. "Yeah, that's no surprise. Wisty's got a knack for winning over Pokémon."
Professor Rowan cleared his throat, looking slightly bemused but intrigued. "While this is undoubtedly a remarkable event, Wisty, I must ask-where exactly did you find Luminaw?"
Wisty grinned, spinning Lumi playfully in the air. "In the forest! I was running to make sure there wasn't some kind of emergency, and I saw this glowing thing floating near some old ruins. So I followed it! At first, Lumi was shy, but after I offered it some berries, it warmed up to me!"
Professor Oak's voice came through the screen. "Old ruins, you say? That would align with what we know about Luminaw's habitat. You've stumbled upon something truly special, Wisty. Very few trainers have ever encountered a Luminaw, let alone bonded with one."
Brock nodded thoughtfully. "It makes sense. Wisty's always had a pure heart, and that's one of the requirements for even seeing a Luminaw, right?"
Dawn leaned closer, her eyes sparkling. "Wisty, you're like a real-life fairy tale hero!"
Wisty waved her hand dismissively, though her cheeks flushed pink. "Aw, c'mon, it's nothing like that! Lumi just likes me because I'm awesome. Right, Lumi?"
"Luminaw!" Lumi replied enthusiastically, circling her head.
Ash chuckled and leaned over to Brock. "I think Wisty's just gained a new best friend."
Professor Oak chimed in again. "Wisty, if you don't mind, I'd love for you to collect more data on Luminaw. Your insights could help us learn so much about this elusive Pokémon."
"Sure thing, Professor!" Wisty said, giving a thumbs-up. "But no more boring lectures, okay? Lumi and I have adventures to go on!"
"Boring?" Oak huffed, though there was a twinkle in his eye. "I'll have you know my lectures are renowned for their-"
Lumi suddenly floated toward the screen, tilting its head curiously. Its glow shifted to a warm gold, and it chirped at Professor Oak, almost as if it were greeting him.
"Well, hello there, little one!" Oak said, his voice softening. "Aren't you a curious creature?"
Wisty grinned and held Lumi close. "See, Lumi? Even Professor Oak likes you!"
Gary rolled his eyes. "Yeah, but who doesn't like Lumi? It's practically impossible not to."
As everyone laughed, Lumi beamed even brighter, clearly overjoyed to be surrounded by its new friends.
Meanwhile, Professor Rowan adjusted his coat, looking pointedly at Wisty. "Just promise me you won't go charging into the forest again without warning. We don't need another close call like this."
Wisty gave a sheepish grin. "No promises, Professor!"
The room erupted into laughter again, and Lumi let out a happy trill, nuzzling against Wisty's cheek as if sealing their unbreakable bond.
