Here goes.....
Ash could feel his heart pounding in his chest. His palms were sweaty as he sat on the exam table, staring at Gary’s smug smirk. He tried to swallow his nerves, but the knot in his stomach only tightened.
"Depends," Gary repeated, his smirk widening. "You nervous, Ash?"
Ash fumbled for words, his hands shaking slightly as he toyed with the brim of his hat. "N-no, not really," he mumbled, though his voice betrayed him. His leg was bouncing up and down uncontrollably, his body betraying just how on edge he really was.
Gary raised an eyebrow and crossed the room, his lab coat swishing behind him. "Ashy, you're a terrible liar," he teased, putting a hand on Ash's knee to still the jittery movement. "Look at me."
Ash’s heart felt like it was about to explode. His chest tightened as Gary’s hand rested on his knee, the warmth of his touch making Ash’s nerves go haywire. He forced himself to meet Gary’s gaze, but the moment their eyes locked, his breath hitched.
"See?" Gary said softly, his teasing tone gone for a moment. "You’re fine. It’s just a check-up, buddy."
Ash wanted to believe him. He really did. But his mind kept racing. Memories of that terrible check-up they had gone through when they were four flooded back. Ash could remember crying his eyes out while Gary tried to be brave. That visit hadn’t ended well, with Ash bawling and Gary yelling at the doctor for scaring him.
Gary must have remembered it too, because he chuckled softly, his hand still on Ash’s knee. "You’ve always hated these, huh? Even when we were kids. You remember that time—"
"Of course I do!" Ash cut him off, his voice higher-pitched than usual. He was so rattled that he didn’t realize he had reached for his Poké Ball until it was already in his hand. "What if you—"
"Whoa, whoa!" Gary interrupted, grabbing Ash's wrist before he could release the Pokémon. "Ash, calm down! I’m not going to dissect you, for Arceus’ sake!"
Ash blinked. "What?!"
Gary sighed, holding Ash’s hand firmly as he gently lowered it. "That was a joke, Ash. No dissection, no poison, no nothing. Just a routine check-up, okay?"
Ash didn’t answer right away. He stared down at the Poké Ball, his breathing shaky. His heart was racing—far too fast. Gary could see it too.
"Hey, Ashy," Gary said softly, moving to stand in front of him, their faces level. "Relax, alright? You’re going to give yourself a heart attack if you keep freaking out like this." He squeezed Ash’s hand reassuringly, then ruffled his hair playfully. "Trust me. I’ve got you."
Ash tried to calm down, but his leg was still bouncing and his fingers trembled. He knew Gary was just teasing him, but he couldn’t help it. Every time Gary put on that smug grin, it was like his nerves skyrocketed.
Gary sighed, seeing that Ash wasn’t calming down as quickly as he had hoped. "Alright, let’s just get this over with, okay?" He picked up a penlight from the counter and leaned in, gesturing for Ash to hold still. "I’m gonna check your eyes first. Try not to freak out."
Ash swallowed and nodded, though his stomach was still doing flips. Gary clicked on the light and shined it into Ash’s eyes, but Ash barely flinched. His eyes were wide with anxiety, barely reacting to the light.
Gary frowned slightly. "Ash, you’re not even looking at the light. Come on, focus for me, buddy."
Ash blinked, realizing he had been staring blankly into space. He tried to focus on the light, but his mind kept wandering back to what Gary could be planning. The light moved from one eye to the other, but Ash’s gaze stayed distant.
Gary sighed, lowering the light. "You’re too tense, Ash. Relax." He turned his attention to Ash’s ears next, but as soon as he moved closer, Ash flinched.
"Hold still," Gary muttered, gently tipping Ash’s head to the side so he could get a look inside his ear. "There’s nothing in here but your anxiety, Ashy-boy."
Ash let out a weak chuckle, though his teeth were chattering from nerves. Gary couldn’t even get a good look—Ash was trembling so badly that it was hard to keep him steady.
"You’re shaking like a Pikachu in the rain," Gary said with a sigh. "I can’t check anything if you don’t stop trembling."
"I—I can’t help it!" Ash stammered, his voice breaking slightly.
Gary shook his head and moved on. "Let’s check your heart, then. You’re probably about to break the stethoscope with how fast it’s beating."
Ash winced as Gary placed the stethoscope against his chest. The cool metal made him shiver, but it was nothing compared to the erratic pounding of his heart. Gary listened for a few seconds, his brow furrowing.
"Ash, your heart’s going a million miles an hour," Gary said, pulling the stethoscope away. "You’ve gotta calm down, buddy. I’m serious."
Ash nodded, but the bouncing of his leg only got worse.
Gary grabbed the blood pressure cuff next, wrapping it around Ash’s arm. "Let’s see how bad it is." He pumped the cuff, his eyes watching the gauge carefully.
Ash bit his lip, watching Gary’s face for any sign of what the numbers might say.
Gary’s eyes widened slightly as he read the results. "Uh... Ash?"
"Yeah?" Ash asked nervously.
"Your blood pressure’s through the roof, buddy. Like... I’m surprised you’re not passing out right now."
Ash’s eyes widened in panic. "What?! How high is it?!"
Gary glanced at the gauge again. "It’s over 600."
"600?!" Ash shouted, his heart racing even faster. "That’s—Gary, that’s not normal! Am I gonna die?!"
Gary quickly grabbed Ash by the shoulders, trying to steady him. "Ash, calm down! You’re not gonna die, alright? You’re just... really worked up."
Ash was trembling so hard now that his teeth were chattering, his mind racing with worst-case scenarios. Gary squeezed his shoulders a little harder, forcing Ash to meet his eyes.
"Hey," Gary said firmly. "Look at me, Ashy-boy. You’re not dying. You’re just freaking out."
Ash swallowed hard, trying to steady his breathing. But his leg kept bouncing, and his heart wouldn’t slow down. He nodded weakly, though he still looked like he was on the verge of a meltdown.
Gary sighed, running a hand through his own hair. "Alright, let’s just... let’s finish this up, okay? You’re gonna be fine, Ash." He reached for the reflex hammer, tapping Ash’s knee lightly.
Ash’s leg jerked a little too forcefully, and Gary chuckled. "At least your reflexes are still sharp."
Ash gave a weak smile, though his hands were still shaking. He couldn’t stop thinking about the number Gary had said—600. That couldn’t be normal. He felt like his heart was going to burst out of his chest.
Gary ruffled Ash’s hair again, nudging him gently. "You’re fine, Ashy-boy. Just a little too worked up for your own good. Let’s get you out of here and get you some fresh air, alright?"
Anyway that's all
