Gary Route: Episode 4 Choice A
Deciding that I really was unprepared for the fire gym, I spent a few days going through the Galar Mine caves and choosing the perfect pokemon to add to my team to help against Kabu's fire type team. Even though the Chewtles were really cute, I eventually decided on a Wimpod, which were incredibly annoying to catch, but once they evolved into a Golisopod they were intimidating as all get out. Plus, a Wimpod was the perfect battle partner for my young Hatenna to practice with.
I stalled for as long as I could, waiting to see if Gary would catch up with me. But after my Wimpod unexpectedly evolved I knew that I didn't have any more excuse for hanging around Motostoke. So I reluctantly made my way to the Fire Type gym. The gym battle was much more intense than I had been expecting, but I had brought my Simipour as backup and was able to secure a victory in the end.
Even after I had secured the Fire Badge, I really didn't want to give up on the chance of seeing Gary again. So I decided to head out to Motostoke outskirts to try and catch some new pokemon and I would come back in three days to see if Gary had turned up. When I made my way back to Kabu's gym though, I was informed by a gym referee that not only had Gary beaten the gym two days ago, but he had already left for Hammerlocke city to continue his journey.
Sayuri is devastated that after all of her stalling she missed Gary by a few days and now he was ahead of her in the gym challenge. Taking this as a sign, she decided to stop wasting her time on flights of fancy and just focus on her gym challenge. She didn't see Gary again until they were paired up in the Galar League where Gary ends up creaming her because she can't concentrate. He gloats a bit about beating her and Sayuri stays in the stands to watch him make it to the semi-finals. She is too embarrassed to talk to him after that though and leaves without saying goodbye.
