Drew's POV

I looked at the door excitedly. It had been a while since I have seen the love of my life. I was so close, so close to being back with my family. Before I could knock on the door, I heard the sound of a Pokéball opening. A bright light flashed, materializing into the form of my masquerain.

"Mas! Masquerain!" The bug Pokémon cheered happily. I smiled. Masquerain had a family as well, one that was behind those closed doors.

"You ready bud?" I questioned. A gentle breeze blew through my green hair, almost as though the meadow was embracing my return home as well. I smiled, throughly glad to still be not just alive with all my limbs intact, but also back home.

Even with all my excitement bubbling up inside me, I tried my best to contain it. I closed my eyes, focusing on my breathing for a while.

In...

Out...

In...

I waited a while for my fluttering heart to calm down, finally opening my eyes to be faced with the wooden door once more. Taking another breath in, I lifted a slightly shaking hand, moving it closer to the smooth wood. It finally came into contact with the wood, a dull thump sounding. I knocked a few more times before standing back a little, expecting a reply.

Nothing came, making my heart sink slightly. Did I arrive at the wrong address? Had they moved out already? It was a long three years, and anything could have happened during this time. My mind flashed back to the time I had accidentally entered the wrong house when I was six years old...

It was then I heard someone fumbling with the door. I felt my heart leap. With excitement, fear, or joy I didn't know. Whatever it was, however, I wasn't prepared to see the sight of what lay behind the doors of my home, even though it was only opened by a crack. Blue eyes the color of a summer day met the lush, grass-colored green of the other's.

"Drew?" The crack opened wider to reveal a girl wearing red. Her signature bandanna wrapped around her head.

I smiled, finally feeling at ease for the first time in months. Meanwhile, Masquerain was fluttering impatiently at the side, still waiting for its turn.

The girl at the door still seemed in a bit of a shock. However, her smile was as bright as sunshine, and I could see tears of her emotions threatening to spill over.

"May." I breathed, finally able to speak again. "I'm home, my Beautifly."

The girl pushed the door open wide, jumping straight into my arms. I could feel some liquid running down the back of my shirt as she cried in my embrace.

"You're alive! Oh Drew..." she chocked out, crying a bit more.

"Yes, yes I am." I replied softly, my own tears threatening to spill over. I was unable to continue, and decided that right now, nothing else mattered besides enjoying the moment.

She pulled back a little, finally noticing the scar on my forehead.

"Oh Drew..." she sighed, reaching towards it. I flinched slightly as her hand made contact. "No soldier could  get out unscathed from a battle." I replied solemnly.

"Who cares? You're alive!" She hugged me once more. "I'm glad you returned home, Drew."

"Hey..." I petted her back gently. "Remember that I told you I'll find my way back home?"

She pulled back slightly, shaking her head. "You've never left my side Drew, I've never been alone. I know that you are out there, fighting for our family and country. Your spirit has never quite left my side." She smiled sadly. "And even though we've gone through changes, and our son's now five years old. We've always been here waiting and knowing you'll find your way back home."

"May... it's nice to be home."

Above the reunited family, a Beautifly and masquerain danced happily, their wings shining brightly in the colors of the sky as the sun creeped slowly behind the mountains.

"No matter where I go, I will find my way back home."
