Big Brother! (Drew's Roserade)

The creepy Cacturne.

Drew's Roserade's POV

"Come on out!" My trainer called me and the rest of his team out of his Pokeballs.

"Here's your lunch." He continued on, giving out bowlfuls of poke-blocks to all of us. "Maybe I'll learn to make some poffins soon but I'm sure that you guys wouldn't mind poke-blocks for now."

"Thanks!" I replied. Knowing that he would understand that even though he doesn't speak Pokémon. " I could hear the murmurs of rest of his team around me as we all started digging in.

As we were eating, I watched as he pulled out another pokeball.

"I've been feeding this new Pokémon separately from you guys because it is a new born and isn't old enough to eat solid food yet. However, I think that it's about time you all meet your new teammate. Come out Vulpix!"

For the next second, all I could see was the bright light from the pokeball. I quickly shielded myself from the worse of the light, watching as the energy in the ball formed the shape of a snow-colored vulpix.

That's weird. Aren't vulpix supposed to be orange? Perhaps Drew got a shiny?

"Team, this vulpix is from the Alola region, making it an ice type instead of a fire type."

Huh. So that was why vulpix looked so different. Still, ice types are still strong against grass types anyway. I better be careful of this newcomer.

I watched as Drew picked up the vulpix carefully, feeding it some milk. I looked on, a feeling of slight loneliness arousing somewhere deep inside me.

Could that be jealousy? I shook my head, trying to shake off the feeling.

Come on Roserade! You're Drew's main Pokémon! There's definitely no time to be jealous of a bundle of white and blue fur! I scolded myself. But... that bundle of fur was very cute. Maybe even cute enough to...

DON'T THINK ABOUT IT ROSERADE!

"Hey Drewie! I didn't think that I'll find you here!" The creepy guy with a green hat jumped out of a nearby tree.

"Ahhh Harley!" I jumped, feeling myself fly backwards due to the jump-scare.

"What do you want this time Harley?" Drew replied as calm as ever. Honestly, I wonder how he does that, especially when it concerns that overgrown cacturne.

"I saw you going into the forest and came to see vulpix, that's all!" Harley continued, moving closer to my trainer. He reached out his hands towards the vulpix, Drew smacking them away and escaping from Harley's advancements. Well, at least for now.

"Now that you've seen her, I would recommend that you get out of the area before I send flygon after you. She's still young, and it's nearly her nap time." Drew glared at Harley, obviously upset that he had decided to appear at such a time.

But seriously, why flygon? Now I'm really jealous. Why did he choose flygon and not me?

"So, you're still playing the overprotective father aren't you? Solidad was right after all, you would make a great daddy."

I watched as my trainer sweat dropped at the comment.

"Do you mind just leaving us alone already?"

"No, can't do!" Harley approached Drew once more with a creepy smile on his face.

"He's scary..." I looked up to see vulpix obviously traumatized by Harley's... intimidate ability.

"Ok, that's enough. Flygon! Use flamethrower!"

I watched as Harley tried escaping the heat, finally leaving us alone. It was surprisingly super effective. But then again, he was an overgrown cacturne and cacturne were grass types after all.

The vulpix Drew was holding was apparently still in shock as it started crying the very next moment.

"It's ok vulpix, he's gone now." He tried calming down the vulpix that only cried harder. I felt pity towards the small fluff ball. In all honesty, the cute little thing seemed like a good companion and I knew that Harley should be banned from all the hatcheries just due to the fact that he exists.

"Hey there," I spoke towards the vulpix. "It's alright. Don't let that creepy, overgrown cacturne get to you." I moved closer, glad that the creature had finally stopped crying.

"But he's scary!" The vulpix whined, wiggling out of my trainers hands and approaching me. "He looks like a bad guy. Is he a baddie Mr. Rose?"

I could have laughed, especially since vulpix had just addressed me by what my trainer was sometimes called. However, I kept it in, knowing that it would terrify the poor child even more.

"He's... a weird guy." I finally answered. "But you don't have to worry about him because me and the others would protect you."

"R-really?" The vulpix looked up at me in awe, making me chuckle at its cute face. Perhaps this vulpix wasn't too bad after all.

"Yes. Really." I smiled at vulpix. "Oh and... don't call me Mr. Rose. It sounds way too formal."

"Ok then!" The vulpix cheered up. "I'll call you big brother!"

I was speechless for a moment, not knowing how to react to that.

"Thanks a lot for helping me calm vulpix down." Drew thanked me, handing me a few pieces of extra pokeblock. "Now vulpix, it's time for your nap."

"But I'm not tired dad!" The vulpix  protested, shaking her head. "I want to spend more time with Big brother!"

However, a tell-tale yawn escaped from her mouth, clearly showing how tired she was.

"You're tired vulpix, you need a nap." Drew insisted, not saying anything about the daddy part.

Now that I've thought about it, I suspect he doesn't even know that vulpix calls him that.

Yea, that was most probably the case.

"Fine, I'll nap. But can I sleep with big brother?" Vulpix requested, making me peek up in surprise. Me? But I didn't need naps!

"You want to sleep with Roserade?" Drew questioned. I figured out that he came to that conclusion due to him spotting the direction of her paw pointing at me.

Vulpix nodded.

"Uhhh... if Roserade lets you." Drew finally answered giving vulpix the cue to jump onto me, tacking me to the ground and rubbing her face against my own.

In the distance, I could hear Drew chuckling at my predicament, the click of a camera sounding the next second.

That grasshead... I'm so going to get him someday.

Contest jitters!

"Big brother?"

"Yes little sis?"

"I'm scared..."

"It's normal for you to be scared in your debut. I was scared too, when I first began." I petted vulpix on the head.

Drew was currently out of the room, most probably at the store deciding which seals to use. However, he was taking longer than usual and I wondered if he had bumped into a certain someone.

"Big brother was scared?" Vulpix asked, her eyes open in shock. "But big brother isn't afraid of anything!"

"I'm sure he was." Flygon spoke up. "Most of us were. Heck, even 'Dad' was nervous when he started!"

"But I thought that Dad doesn't fear anything! He was so brave facing Mr Scary-face!"

Flygon chuckled. "Solidad said he cried after losing his first contest."

"Really? Dad can cry?"

"Of course, he's human as well, literally." I answered.

Meanwhile, wherever Drew was, he let out a gigantic sneeze.

"This is no cold..." the green-haired boy looked up towards the sky. "Someone... someone is talking about me."
——————————

"You'll be fine vulpix. Besides, Dad and I would be up there with you." I answered. "It's a double battle after all."

"I'll be counting on you big brother." Vulpix replied, still slightly nervous.

However, I knew that she was going to be all right.
