Abandonment, a pokemon's tale
First person POV
"Seriously? Eevee? You can't even beat down a Machamp? Pathetic."
I gazed up at my trainer in fear and sadness, not bothering to explain how the Machamp is of a higher level and had a type advantage against myself. He didn't speak Pokémon... and even if he did, he'll probably just assume that I wasn't working hard enough.
He bent down, his menacing gaze reaching my scared ones. I wanted to flinch in fear. However, I was too hurt to do so.
"Return."
I felt myself being sucked into my Pokeball. Well, at least I could rest a while.
"Out!"
Or maybe not.
Blue light flashed as I came out of my pokeball. I realized with a heavy heart that he has abandoned me.
"Now, off you go. Don't even think of coming back you pathetic fox!"
With that, my former trainer walked away. I couldn't do anything but stare after his figure getting smaller against the setting sun, knowing that he didn't want me anymore.
Sure, he mistreated me, but I still felt a huge sense of love towards him for some reason. It hurts to be away from him. I may not understand why, but maybe someday, I would understand.
——————
I didn't know how long I've been just lying there, too hurt to move. It was probably seven pm in the evening now and I was hungry. Somehow, another trainer found me just lying there.
"Cool! An eevee."
Huh. That's me right? I'm an eevee.
"Pokeball go!"
He's catching me?
Letting me out of my new pokeball, he had a look at my wounds.
"Hmmm... it'll hurt but that's about it. It's not that bad. Let's start training."
Wait, already?
One of my front paws hurt terribly. The front right one to be exact.
"Come out charmander and use flamethrower. Eevee, dodge it."
I tried dodging the flames, I really did. Who wants to get burnt anyway? However, I still got hit by one and was sent tumbling into a tree.
"That could do some work. No dinner for you tonight as you couldn't dodge that."
Hey! That's not fair. I tried protesting in eevee even though I knew that most humans can't speak Pokémon. This trainer was no different. He just shook his head.
"That'll teach you to dodge faster."
His Charmander sent me a sympathetic glance as he stared eating his dinner. I sighed, trying to think of an escape plan and not my hungry stomach.
——————
Some time later, my new trainer was in a sleeping bag. Sound asleep.
I just looked on. I Didn't feel like sleeping. His Charmander walked towards me, petting me on the shoulder.
"Hey buddy. I'm sorry for what I've done. Have to obey the trainer."
"I understand."
"You ok? Not burnt or anything."
I sighed. "Not really." I showed him the bloody paw as he gasped at the sight.
"You didn't cause it. I've gotten it even before my capture." The charmander nodded quietly.
"I don't want to be under his trainership anymore." I twitch my ears in disgust. "Why are humans so evil?"
"You know what pal? I'll release you. Don't tell a soul about it though. Ok?"
"Really? You'll do that for me?"
The charmander nodded, picking up my pokeball.
"Hold on tight."
———————
Humans... these vile creatures are not to be trusted. They only know how to hurt a Pokémon and not truly understand them. I owe this all to charmander. It was due to him the reason I could escape. But what about next time? I'm not always lucky enough to have someone that nice by my side. I decided to try to sleep. After all, it was late at night.
———————
Blinking open my eyes, I started up at the green canopy of the forest. I've gotten more energy thanks to that sleep. However, I felt a little weird and dizzy. Shaking myself awake, I started looking for something to eat. Just then, I saw a purple haired woman looking at me. Not again! I mentally groaned.
I shrank back in fear as the woman approached me, growling at her to hopefully keep her away. She doesn't stop, however, and I started to charge up a swift attack.
"Eevee, I want to know what you're feeling."
I spat at her, giving her another warning. But she still continued towards me.
"Please... eevee..."
Unleashing my swift, I heard her gasp in shock as she took my attack. I watched as she flew about a meter away and landed on the floor with a thump.
"Ow..."
I felt something stir within me. Guilt? Sadness? Pity? Even I couldn't make it out.
If I thought that could stop her, I was wrong. She started heading towards me once more.
"Come on... what's wrong?"
Annoyed by this human, I bit down on her hand, hard.
I could tell that she was in pain from her facial expressions. But she doesn't scream, and none of the pain was betrayed in her voice.
"I just want to help you, why won't you let me?"
"That just cause humans are evil" I muttered under my breath, knowing that she wouldn't understand.
Surprisingly, she somehow does.
"What gave you that impression of humans? Not all of us are that bad... surely?"
I gasped. "You... you speak Pokémon?"
"Not exactly. But I'm able to understand them."
I just stared at her, mouth agape. Watching her as she patched up the bite wound with some bandages in her bag.
It was then when she noticed my paw.
"What happened to your paw?" She reached out to touch it but I pulled it back before she could.
"Eevee, you have to allow me to look at it. You don't want it to get infected."
I wanted to argue with her but suddenly felt tired. Almost as if I hadn't slept all night. I wondered if it was the insecurity I felt earlier that gave me an adrenaline rush to keep me less tired.
Warning bells rang in my head as the human picked me up. However, I didn't struggle. Something about this human told me that I could trust her.
Bringing me back to her house, I watched as she got a pillow for me to lie down on. Huh? That was new. I continued watching as she wrapped up my wound and gave me some food to eat. After sniffing the food a few times, I was certain that it would be safe enough to eat. Bending down to eat, I felt her stroking my fur. It was surprisingly pleasant and I found myself holding back tears.
"What's wrong, eevee?"
"Nothing. It's just... no one has actually treated me this nicely before. I wiped away my tears with a paw as I stared up at the human. She seemed bewildered, almost sad that I've never got petted before.
"You know what eevee? I'm going to take good care of you.
———————
About a week later, I found myself fully recovered and rearing to go.
"Well eevee, I guess it's time to say goodbye."
"What goodbye?" I asked Anabel. She was the human who showed me what compassion was, and also the fact that some humans can be trusted.
"I don't know. I just assumed that you might want to leave since you are better. You never really seemed to like me around anyway and you always talk about being free again."
I thought with a pang how true all that was. Even after she did so much, I still kind of rejected her along the way. Still, I had thought she did this for me cause she actually liked me. I guess all this that she had done was nothing more than not standing to see a hurt Pokémon.
"Fine. I'll just get going." I stomped out of the door flap. Ignoring her pleas for me to tell her what was wrong. Couldn't she see? It appears that she was just like all other humans, treating Pokémon as creatures of the lower class, not treating them as friends. All that I thought of her must have been an illusion. A fake.
"Eevee! What's wrong? You're acting weird." The door burst open behind me. However, I only started running faster. I never looked back.
"Eevee!"
I knew she was chasing me. Why doesn't she just give up?
"Eev—" she broke off.
I turned around to see someone with a hand over her mouth. Another person had a knife to her throat.
Anabel...
I hid in the bushes, wanting to know what will happen. The person uncovered her mouth.
"Tell us."
"Tell you guys what?" Her voice was fearful, making me feel guilty for my actions. It was my fault she chased after me. My fault the reason she is here. My fault the reason why she is captured.
"How are you able to talk to Pokémon?"
So that's why they wanted to capture her...
"I don't know ok? I was just born with it! Let me go!"
"Can't do missy. If you won't tell us, we would just have to kill you." The person with the knife positioned his weapon closer to her, giving her a menacing grin.
No... you won't hurt her!
Fury overwhelmed me as I jumped out of the bushes and tackled the man holding a knife. Turning around quickly, I positioned a swift perfectly so that I would knock off the other man without hurting Anabel. Scratching and biting at both of them, they started yelling in pain and ran away from us. Oh no you don't! I hit them hard with an iron tail, blasting them into a tree.
Caught in the heat of battle, I felt myself tingling and my vision clouding with a burst of white light. When I could next see, I looked down to see purple instead of cream and brown. It was then when I realized that I was no longer an eevee but instead a strong espeon, ready to whip two people in particular.
Launching a newly-learnt pybeam at the two men, I soon sent them blasting off again. This time, for real.
"Eevee... oops, I mean espeon. Thank you. But why? Why did you seem so upset earlier?"
I looked at the ground, using my paws to scratch it slightly.
"I guess... I just couldn't stand the fact that you didn't want me either."
"Huh?"
"After staying with you, I just somehow felt... connected to you. I thought of you as a friend, as someone who would stay by my side. When you said it was time to say goodbye,"
"You thought I abandoned you. Oh eevee... I didn't want to leave you either."
"You didn't?"
"No! I just thought you wanted to leave. Now that I know you want to say, I couldn't even express my joy for that!" She smiled. "Would you join my team as a partner, as a friend?" She asked sincerely, holding out a Pokeball.
She's allowing me to make my own choice and I knew exactly what it would be.
I bowed down to her. Before pressing the button of the Pokeball to grant her my capture.
It had been a long time. But at least now I had someone. I was no longer alone.
——————
Well, I've always wondered how Anabel got her espeon so...
Yea yea I said this would mostly be contestshipping but then there'll be no variety. Right?
Ummm... who here doesn't know who Anabel is? Basically, she is one of the frontier brains in the battle frontier of the Kanto region. Ash first met her in "talking a good game!" If you want to check her out. Yea, she's a side character.
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter!
