Chapter 43: Dragon Den•

I had sensed something in particular as soon as I entered the Dragon's den. The master of this place had watched me look around for this certain something.

"What is it?" He asked.

"I feel an egg around here" he nodded.

"Very admirable for you to simply sense one from where you stand. I am old, but even I don't even see an oval shell. Wouldn't it be obvious?" I looked in the waters around the bridge we were walking on and looked down below. I squat down and saw a white dot flashing back and forth.

"There" I pointed. The master looked down to see where I'm pointing.

"Is that an egg?" I nodded and remained where I stood, watching it continue to flash.

"It seems that it's fine for it to stay there. A Pokémon living in those waters must be waiting for it to hatch" I guess... "It's a shame I won't be able to see the miracle of birth. It's always my favorite part aside from holding their egg"

The man stayed with me until the egg had flashed once for a few seconds before disappearing. There was nothing else I could see.

"I've watched all my eggs hatched, all but one. She was born while I slept for the few minutes I could during that stressful night I had operated on an egg. That egg became my next egg. The eggs I've raised had stayed with me till this day. My Pichu hatched 12 to 13 years ago, and I risked my childhood to save her life. Every one of my Pokémon I have now have been hatched, all but two. No matter how I come to meet my Pokémon, they will always be my treasure. I risk my health for them, I go over the mountain for them. Training them was always so easy because of the love I give them. There had been so many trainers who mistreat their Pokémon, and they can never go against us. Anything my Pokémon do, I support them even if they lose. I love having the opportunity to meet a new Pokémon and showing them the world that's so cruel, but we get through it together no matter how much we struggle. I hope that hatchling doesn't have to struggle through its life if one day it may be captured" I stood up "I speak too much when I'm in a bummed mood. Sorry"

"No need to apologize" Something was coming up from the water. I observed and saw a small Dratini coming out to the surface "Had it been this little one that hatched?" I smiled.

"You bet" I smiled at the Dratini staring at me "It's so cute!" I took a berry from my bag and offered it to the little one "A hatchling must always eat as soon as they hatch. Here!" The Dratini came up to smell it before eating it whole. It smiled and cheered in delight. I stood up and giggled.

"At least I got to feed it" I looked at the master "Sorry I've kept you, shall we?" He nodded and escorted me to the shrine in the heart of the lake. There was splashing behind us. We turned to see the Dratini following us.

"Looks like it had became fond of you" the master smiled. I stared at Dratini continuing to stare at me "You know, it's not easy to get a dragon type Pokémon to become fond of you. It shows how worthy you are" I leaned down and pet it's head.

"I don't know about worthy. I just know kindness has its own way of showing how you fit in the world. Kindness might not fit in certain places, but you carry on that kindness until you find a place worth of keeping you happy and never be alone again" Dratini cried out happily.

"To be in the worse possible place, I found my peace finally" I moved away "I do not want to fight for the sake of revenge anymore. I want to fight for peace. It's the best fitting place for me" I smiled at the master "for I fit in a much more quiet place where I can live happy with the ones I love..." I looked down "and prove I was worth saving. I didn't do this for him, I did this for me... All I wanted to do was prove that I became someone strong because he saved me" I held my heart.

"I will never forget him... for as long as I've been through my journey, in tears, in anger, in hunger, and in illness, I never forgotten how he was the reason why I'm happy now. I got to work on my life... because he gave it back to me" I turned away.

"I'm blabbering again... I'm sorry" I sat down "I couldn't help it. I want to keep my life happy and allow the ones I care about be happy without complications. I don't want anyone to go through the loneliness I've gone through" I closed my eyes, letting my tears fall "Why must I cry all the time?"

"You care for the ones you spend your time with and carry the burden of keeping those from experiencing what your heart went through. I often have others take their hardships to me when they visit this place for my wisdom, but you don't need my word. You have already found your answer" he offered a hand. I stood up and watched him smile "I was going to give you a test to see where you stand, but you've already answered all my questions before I even got to ask" he laughed and took my hand to pat on it "do not lose that faith you hold. It will see you through out your life" I nodded "Do you think so? Clair?" I looked behind me to see Clair with a guilt look and sorrow.

"You are truly remarkable... It wasn't until you stand with my master that I've saw that you caught his eyes. My master does not take things lightly and is very specific on how he sees other trainers. I wanted to believe you were all talk and cheated, but you are honest and don't have the intention to lose a slight of faith. I am selfish, I'll admit that, and I didn't want to hear your words. I haven't been able to hear your voice behind my anger. I let it all take over my hearing and will only listen to what I believe" she looked away "I don't expect your forgiveness, but you spoke more about the Zoe family than I've ever heard. Frankly, all I know about them was that they snatch talent, since they're entire existence is based on some kind of magic" she glared at herself "I only saw that they were going to steal Lance's talent, after so long of training..."

"Don't be ridiculous" I said "Do not use rumors to your final judgment. We are so much more than that, but I can understand the mystery. Even I can't explain everything to one person" I looked at the Dratini watching me "Lance will pass on his talents to his children. I know he will. If not, his grandchildren will inherit it without the training"

"Is that so..?" Clair frowned "I had yet to understand still about your family, but..." she looked down.

"It's an honor to be a part of her family" the master said "Do not disrespect them again" Clair nodded.

"Yes, master"

"This child is impeccable, in skill and spirit. Admit defeat and confer the Rising badge" Clair nodded and showed me a shiny badge.

"I admit defeat and apologies for everything I've thrown at you without reason and in anger. Take this Rising badge" she said without looking at me "Hurry up! Take it!" I stared at the badge before taking it. She turned her back completely "Does it mean I can be part of your family now?" I chuckled and walked away from her to the exit.

"Well, I can't really do that unless you apologize to Lance and my aunt" I waved the badge in my fingers, looking back at her biting her lip worriedly "Apologizing to me doesn't really mean much. It's about Lance and his future, you know?" she nodded.

"Y-Yeah..."

"Reflect upon what it is that you lack and this child has" the master said. Clair closed her eyes.

"Y-Yes master..." she ran off without another word, accidentally running into my bag and dropped the box I had my feather. I immediately put my bag down to check on the eggs I had inside and noticed the both of them had slow flashing lights. A-Already..?

"It seems that your eggs are waiting for you. Please do take care" I nodded and smiled happily "a smile suits you the best. Please, be careful with whatever you do" I nodded and bowed.

"Thank you for helping me. I don't want there to be problems in my family. You've saved me the hassle"

"And we don't want that" I waved to him and the Dratini before taking a step away from them. Dratini cried out to me.

"Huh?"

"Looks like it doesn't want you to leave" the master smiled "why don't you take it along with you?"

"I could, but it just hatched and I don't want it to be away from its parents"

"Dratini's parents don't take care of their eggs. Dratini's only survive on their own" I held my chin. It's a bit overwhelming, but even if I don't mind taking it with me, I still have two eggs to take care of.

It's not impossible to own more than 6 Pokémon, obviously. The top 6 may only be able to battle against another trainer. I will always cherish every one of my Pokémon, but I don't want anyone to feel like they're going to be left out.

"They always have a place to stay if I don't have room in my party" I have a large yard back home made for the Pokémon that hatched under the hands of my grandparents and so on, so I'm sure I can switch from time to time and maybe have Elm help me take care of them, but I think I'll be able to handle 8 in total in my bag.

"Only if Dratini wants to come with me" I finally said.

"Dra!" Dratini cheered and jumped out the water to splash up and down over and over happily. I took out a Pokéball and pressed the button on its head, capturing it.

"Why is this always easy?" I looked at the ball "This is the first Pokémon I ever captured, even if it just hatched" I smiled and left the shrine after saying my goodbyes. I saw Clair waiting by the entrance of the cave, looking a bit nervous.

"Hey" I called. She flinched and looked at me like she's seen a ghost. What's with this personality change? "What are you doing?"

"I-I was just waiting for you!" I walked pass her. She started following me.

"You don't even know what you're doing. I'm a bit curious if you take bipolar medicine like I use to do" I can't really say they're bipolar pills, but she might need some.

"No, I realize my misunderstanding. D-Dragon tamers pretty much have bad tempers when they have a harder time controlling their dragons. It's not easy, you know? Lance is a natural talent and I got pretty serious about removing him from our family"

"It would be wise to learn about the facts before snapping at someone. You seem to have hated me before you learned who I was because I brought in that girl with me in a sports bra and no shirt"

"I was already in a bad mood" what a excuse "I... wanted to ask you a favor"

"I wouldn't do the first favor, so why should I-"

"I want to apologize to Lance" she cut me off. I stopped walking and looked at her looking down "I got personal and thought I was doing the best for him, but I was just a coward and realize my mistake" she looked away "I just happen to hear you while visiting my master! I-It's not like he got me to listen or anything!" Right...

"Well, Whatever. He's probably home. I'm heading there now since I have to take care of these eggs in my bag" I looked at them still glowing slightly "by the time I get there, they should be ready to hatch" I walked off.

"Can I follow?" I kept walking.

"I don't really care" I would feel weird to carry the two eggs in my bag through flight for a long period of time. It would be too risky.

Clair and I had walked a silent path back to NewBark town for quite awhile. I've been feeling like she's been wanting to say something, but didn't have the courage and is just building up tension.

"What is it?" I asked, watching Pichu and Dratini on Meganium's back, and Zorua and Clefable running around the fields we were walking "If you have something to say, say it now or you'll regret it" I felt her flinch. I looked back at her looking a bit blue, but tried her best to hide it "I'm kidding" she sighed "Take a joke, will you?"

"You have a funny way of making jokes with a straight face" I choked in laughter a little "you can't really blame me for being a bit frightened"

"I didn't say you were frightened. You just looked tense" she bit her lips, wanting to say what she wanted to say. I can't stop and talk to her, or else we'll waste time. It'll get dark sooner "I'm not scary unless you work my nerve, which you did before. Now that we're good and you know about me, what do you want to say?" She gulped, getting closer than she was before.

"When Lance and I were little, we found a book that told stories of our world history. We were interested in finding facts about dragons, but to make it even more interesting, we challenged each other to find the scariest thing we can find in that book. It's not as scary, but... It was pretty scary. Keep in mind this was a really really old book" I listened.

"There had been a chapter of the beginning of time, before time itself was made. There had been an egg, alone in the darkness, that was soon to be born, but it wasn't in the best condition" she nervously laughed "Now that I think about it, it had something to do with religion. There wasn't much text on there because the history of this event had no proof. All that was written was found in some ruins, that's it. It was a short chapter. I'll finish" I didn't answer and stared at Dratini using flash to light our way "Anyway, it was said that the same energy that created the first egg also made a energy that took care of the egg until it hatched. Our god had made this motherly energy into a full form and was the second thing to be made beside time, space, and matter"

"Yeah, I heard of that. There's more into the story, so it seems, but there's no way in seeing that far in time. I had predicted there would be more text"

"Y-Yeah... It was said this motherly form was blessed with good luck" I stopped walking, almost making her run into me "Uh..." I shook my head and kept walking.

"Sorry, I just thought of something" I said "Keep going"

"With this luck, this form we know as us humans, they hold unbelievable power to bring life to our Pokémon world. Our god had designed them, but that person had hatched them into this world. It was said that if anyone would disobey that person, they would be curse. They were beloved and cherished in the beginning of time and gave birth after our god made friends for its mother. This started the Zoe name, and as time passed, they were thought to be witches and their numbers decreased" I looked up ahead at the sweet little town I adored so much.

"My name has gone through a lot... My family means more to me than anything else. I love taking care of eggs and watching them hatch. Once they do, I move on to take care of the next egg. With every egg I took care of or found, I have with me or trusted someone else to take care of it" I looked down "Because of the decreasing numbers of the family, we would've been doomed to become extinct. Thankfully we've helped the medical field have a better understanding of eggs, so we are only needed as a luxury. If I can't have children, my only hope is my cousins to have as many children as I want"

"H-How many do you want?" I blushed and kept walking.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you" I played with my fingers nervously "Nobody out there would dare to touch me lovingly if they knew what I've been through" I huffed myself, thinking of Red "I don't expect him to remember me... I most likely won't have the chance to have children like I want to, but I'll put my hope in my cousins to carry on our blood. They will make this world a better place if our name grows" I looked back at Clair frowning at me "Well, we're here"

"Are you overwhelmed?" I looked at her confused "You told master that you speak a lot when you are overwhelmed. I'm not sure if it's because you wanted to tell me this or not, but you randomly started taking about children" I looked away "and... a boy" I blushed more.

"S-Shut up!" I walked ahead. I'm overwhelmed because I'll have to face my aunt after what happened. I wish I didn't talk so much so randomly like this... It started with my family's history and ending with my personal life. I only meant it for the sake of our future, but I meant what I said.
