Chapter 32: Ring•
My aunt had called me the other day telling me she was coming to Johto in a few days again to deliver the egg she promised to bring me. To make sure I got to the train station on time, I took a bus that transported me from Olivine to Goldenrod in a few days.
She had just arrived at the same time I did. What she held on her side was a black egg in a egg bag carrier "yoohoo!" Auntie cheered when seeing me. I chuckled and went to give her a hug "Oh wow, you're hugging me for real this time?" She hugged me back "how did you learn how to hug?"
"Well, I've just been doing it a lot lately. A lot of people had been good to me" I let go and blushed off the embarrassment "A-Anyway... It's good to see you" auntie giggled.
"You don't have to be so formal" She softly held my cheek "What's the matter? You're skinny" I moved away.
"I-It's nothing! I've been eating! I promise!" She frowned.
"Let me see your pill bottle" I flinched. Knowing I had no way out of this, I gave her the bottle. She shook it once and looked at me with fierce "There's 10 left! What is this?" She shook the bottle in my face "This is a 2 month's supply! I gave this to you almost 4 weeks ago!" I closed my eyes, afraid this would happen "What did I tell you?! Take them only when you need it!"
"B-But I was trying to prevent myself from snapping if I ever saw Team Rocket-"
"This is about your health! Not them!" She shook the bottle again "Look at this! 10! There are 10 left! You overdosed, didn't you!?" I bit my lips, ashamed at myself.
"I-I..." she groaned and took my hand "W-Where are we going..?"
"To a hospital!" I flinched.
"I-I already got my blood test" she let go of me so I can dig in my bag to give her the test results the Pokémon center back in Ecruteak city gave me "A friend had became concerned over me and had the hospital keep me there for a few days. I haven't taken them since I left" I looked away "You can have the pills. I know now that I can't be trusted when I'm barely starting to learn how to take care of myself" auntie groaned, facepalming.
"I trusted you to be more careful about your health decisions. You don't live in that mess anymore. You are old enough to know right from wrong" I nodded "Anyway, let's go" she took my hand again.
"Where are we going now..?"
"Home" my eyes widened "To NewBark town" She had a firm grip on my hand the whole time she walked us around the city without asking me where the bus stop was. She looked on her own and finally found it after half an hour. We were on the way back to the town I started my journey off.
It took us another few days. I was already tired from the last bus ride, but I wasn't going to say anything. Auntie hasn't said a word to me the entire time. She spent her time on her computer checking her emails and looking up information on my pills and their side effects, as well as contact the hospital that took care of me for more information. I really messed up...
Soon enough, we arrived to Cherrygrove city before the sun started going down. We walked the rest of the way. Soon enough, she opened the front door to the house and walked in without looking at me. I slowly followed her and watch her place the egg down on a towel I left on the counter.
"Auntie..." I frowned "Say something..." she wouldn't look at me, just turned her body away "I understand that you were worried, but I'm fine now! I learned the consequences! I'm still getting through things... Please understand"
"It's not that I don't understand what you're going through, it's the fact that you did this to yourself. Overdosing... There was suppose to be at least 30 pills in that bottle if a month had already passed, but there are only 10. You have no idea what could had happened to you" She sniffled "For all I know... You could had died in the middle of the route without anyone knowing"
"Auntie..." I slowly watched her start crying "I'm sorry... I shouldn't have done what I did. To be honest with you, They didn't work that often in the beginning, so I did what I did... I can no longer use them. They don't work" I looked down "My condition gets the better of me sometimes. On my last day, I had taken a pill that kept me calm for only a few hours instead of 12 hours like it promised. As soon as I saw Team Rocket... It disappeared and I..." I shut my eyes "I'm ashamed of myself... to think I almost killed a man" I cried to her frowning deeply at me "Why do you expect I took so many pills?! I didn't want to make a mistake I might regret..." I sobbed "I relied on them to keep me sane, but it's hard. It still is..." I cupped my face "The one who took me away, the one that's not arrested... He's still out there. Even so, those people do terrible things and I can't stand for it!" I shouted "I just want them gone!" Auntie took my shoulders unexpectedly.
"You've never had the best health. You've never cared because of the state you lived in. It's been so many years that it became a habit, all because you either didn't have money, didn't wanted anyone's help, or just wanted it all to stop" she placed her forehead on mine "You're not alone anymore..." I nodded and stared at her body, strangely feeling something was off.
I placed my hand on her stomach and quickly looked at her smiling shyly "How long have you known?" I asked.
"A month or so" she walked off the kitchen "maybe a bit longer"
"Y-You should had told me!"
"I wanted to tell you a month ago" she sighed "But I couldn't, not yet"
"Why not? You should had told me!" She crossed her arms
"I'm not sorry" she giggled "I knew you had a journey to worry about most and wanted to wait till it was over"
"It won't be over for a long time..."
"Around that time, you'll get to meet your niece and nephew" I gasped "I'm having twins" I sobbed and jumped to hug her again "I'm... also engaged" I quickly pulled back and looked at her shining her ring on her finger.
"I-Is this from the guy you went on a date with that time before I left Kanto?" She blushed "I can't believe it"
"I know, I know... having a baby before marriage?" She laughed nervously "But it happens... especially in our family" I blushed hard.
"W-What do you mean... especially our family?"
"Not sure. Every one of our female family members and ancestors had gotten pregnant before marriage" she winked "Even your mom" she shrugged "I wouldn't be surprised if it happened to you too!" I gasped, feeling the blood rush through my body.
"A-Auntie! You're not suppose to say things like that!" She laughed at me.
"I'm surprise you didn't know I was pregnant when we last met. I knew from the first moment they started developing"
"How..?"
"Our family isn't only known to specialize in eggs, we also can tell when a Pokémon is expecting. That includes people too. You notice that in a mile radius, you sense an offspring in the body of a living thing. Whether it's Pokémon or people"
"Yeah... I have noticed"
"I noticed, but I was too busy with work that I hadn't noticed the changes in my body. Once I got to settle down, I took notice in them"
"You barely have a stomach. How do you know you're having twins or even a girl and a boy?"
"The embryo doesn't take take a gender until it's developed more, but just like how we are able to know how to take care of eggs, we just know what our children are going to be. This is also not scientific, and frankly, nobody but our family knows we have this ability" I softly touched her stomach.
"I barely noticed because I had a lot of things in my mind as well... I got to relax in your arms and I just felt them" she nodded "Why are we blessed to have such a gift?"
"You're asking me like I know" she looked around the empty kitchen "We are blessed the same way we are blessed to know about taking care of eggs. It's a mystery. Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to know how to take care of the child once they're born, same way on how we don't know how to take care of the Pokémon once they hatch" she sighed "It's complicated really"
"I just can't believe you're pregnant" I felt my heart fluttering "Our family tree can start growing again!" She smiled at me.
Since the first generation, which was who knows when, my very great grandmother obtained the gift in her early teens through a journey through the Sinnoh region, from what I heard at least, the family had grown to birth children who all knew how to handle the gift since they're born.
Some say our family had dated back before time had started. That our god was born from an egg and made my family to take care of the eggs that hatched the beings who made time, space, and anti matter, but we have no way of really knowing.
The ones who are married into the family do not obtain this gift, but in later generations, the personality of that member is transferred to two later generations once or twice at a time before the next person who marries into the family transfers it to the leading generation, which explains my aggression.
The second generation of our family had birth multiple children who birth more children. Our family tree was very big in the beginning, but as more generations piled on, they stopped having more and more children. Times became different since it wasn't necessary to have a lot of kids, so our family tree had died down more and more, leaving the last generation, me, alone with the second to last generation, my aunt.
I had heard from auntie that there was one more person in my generation who currently lives in Sinnoh. I don't know her at all, but my aunt keeps in contact and plans on having us meet one day. She's the only other person in my generation, my cousin... I believe I remember her name was something on the lines of Dawn.
The house was empty and Auntie was starving, so we went to the market to buy food and met with the townsfolk who immediately recognized auntie as she walked by. Everyone was happy to have met her again and greeted me the same way like I was gone for the same amount of time as her.
This town was very generous and was glad to pay for the things we bought, especially when a few of the older ladies noticed a slight bump that no one else noticed. I'm not sure if it's because of their old age, but they're knew faster than I did!
"This town is so much more lively than I remembered!" Auntie smiled, carrying a few grocery bags compared to my 5 and Bayleef 2.
"How come you moved away?" I asked.
"The original plan was for me to move to Kanto and Eliza stayed here, but all things changed when she got married, moving to Kanto. I moved to Kanto after she died and worked in her place. Along that, I searched and searched for you, knowing you were alone in the world" we arrived home and put everything in the counters and fridge "I had you right in front me the entire time because of how much you came to the hospital. I haven't seen you since you were a baby, so I didn't know what you looked like as a 7 year old. I didn't figure it out until that operation I trusted you with. Even after that, I didn't understand why you wouldn't come and stay with me" she sighed and continued.
"I moved to Kanto because of you" she stopped storing things to look out the window "It was easy for me to find a job because of my name, but the original plan our parents gave us was to stay in separate regions, but because she's gone, I constantly move back and forth. It's really annoying, but this house was meant for Eliza while the house in Kanto is mine. I'm comfortable enough, but traveling is tiring" she took out some food once filling a pot with water "I'll be here for awhile for work"
"What about your fiancé?"
"He works a lot, so I don't get to see him often"
"What's his name?" She held her chin.
"I think it'll be better if he introduces himself to you. Right now he's here in Johto, and I told him where to go when he's done"
"H-He's coming here!?" I walked up to her starting to mix ingredients into the pot "Does he know about me?"
"Of course, you are my niece after all. I didn't tell him much, but he does know you're on a journey, so you might see him one day. I can't tell you when he'll come here, but it'll probably be after you leave. You're going to stay here, right?"
"I might as well take a break for a little while. My legs are pretty sore from walking all the time, but I got use to it by now"
"Oh no, we won't want that! You're a dancer after all" I giggled and went to the empty living room and started spinning around "Which reminds me... I probably need to buy some furniture"
"I can buy it" I said.
"Don't worry about it, I can take care of it"
"This is the one I'm staying at after all. You can worry about the house in Kanto. This one will be my responsibility"
"So you want to pay the monthly bills?"
"I don't mind" she chuckled.
"You just focus on your journey. When you're ready to settle down, I'll gladly hand over Eliza's house for you as a whole"
"I still wonder... If the original plan was for her to stay in Johto, why did she move to Kanto? It's what my dad wanted, right?"
"Not really. There had been a man who was always stalking her, even when we were younger. Her rebellious personality attracted this man and she found herself needing to escape from him over and over again. She decided to settle in Kanto when she felt you starting to form, so she went to hiding where she last stayed and I agreed to stay here instead" I tried my best not to glare at the floor.
"Must've been a hassle"
"It really was..." Auntie looked at me spinning around "But where she stayed worked... She managed to avoid him for 7 years before that mysterious fire" I don't want to tell her that same man, in a possibility, had been looking for me as well, and is why I was taken and waited to meet him, but then the team disbanded.
"It's good that she managed to stay away from him for so long... but it doesn't explain why she went missing for about a year or so when I was 4" I stopped moving around "That man..." Auntie didn't look at me.
"How... How do you remember something that happened when you were so little..?"
"This is my mother we're talking about. I remember when she was taken away... but a few details are missing from my memory. Will you tell me about it-"
"We won't talk about that incident... It caused your mom a lot of pain. It would just be best to forget what happened to her. That's what she said"
"Do you know something I don't?" She still wouldn't look at me "Okay then... Do you want some help?" She finally looked over and smiled.
"You can go to your room and relax. I seem to remember that you were taking care of Pichu" I nodded and left to my room to put Pichu in my bed. She looked a lot better than before the pass few days. She's still a bit sleepy, so I'll let her sleep in my bed.
"You take awhile to recover" I smiled "But as long as you get better, that's all that matters" I took out some editable potions I got from the market and gave it to her with the spoon it came with "We'll be home for a few days. How about we return to our journey when you're fully healed?" She slowly nodded happily "Right. We still have to find Red and personally give him our gratitude" I pet her head "I won't give up... We're going to become stronger as a team and reach those heights, no matter the consequences. I will defeat Team Rocket if it's the last thing I do. I'll have to take care of that before anything else" I looked at the photo album on my night stand "I have to take care of it before anything else, if not, I'll just make myself suffer"
