-The First Emerld Spears Grunt the Player has to fight in order to get back into the Convention Center to rescue Cass and Ruben as well as stop their bombing threat.
-Emerald Spears-
(Taken from the Archie Comics. Emerald Spears has been adapted to be the main villains for Nat/Tech. I do not own the pictures used here.)
The main antagonists of Pokémon Natural and Technological. The Emerald Spears is an extremest terrorist organization aiming to eradicate technology and advancing robotics, including all known Cyber/Tech Type Pokemon in the Rokia Region.
The group is infamous for their use of Explosives and other such weaponry to get their way, especially following the takeover of their current leader. Though the group is quite reluctant on hurting humans, they will if a human decides to get in their way.
Originally formed by a bunch of techni-hating hippies, with their (former) leader Harvey Greenleaf before the group was overtaken by it's current leader Xander Payne. They used to be a lot more peaceful before the takeover, relying more on discussion before Xander's takeover of the team. The group is currently looking for a legendary Pokémon with connections to nature (Natural) /or connections to technology (Technological) in hopes of achieving their goals.
The group has gone more underground in more recent times following an incident in which Greenleaf got arrested following an internal insurrection which attracted the attention of the champion and the International Police.
They primary use Grass, Ground, Rock, Water and Fire types. Though during a few encounters with them they will have Pokémon that know the move Explosion/Self-destruct.
The main story:
The first time they are ever mentioned is by an NPC in Baroque Town (The second town of the game after the Player leaves Andante and the town right before the Player reaches Mega City) who warns the player about a bunch of "ecoterrorists" on the loose.
Emerald Spears is first encountered in person by the Player after they beat the First Gym (Mega City) and visit the A.R.T.S Convention following an invite from Aspen and Light. The Player and their Rivals explore the convention until they are ready to head to the auditorium to watch the upcoming debate.
During the presentation however, the Convention Center is attacked and a few grunts barge in to "evacuate" the humans and their Pokémon. The Rivals decide to stand up and fight off the grunts but are quickly drug away and taken as hostages and the Player is taken out of the Convention Center by a Grunt.
Once the Player is on the outside, Aspen will ask if they are ok but soon realizes that Cass and Ruben aren't their. The Player then decides to go back in the building to find them, only to be stopped by a grunt guarding the entrance who he/she/they must fight. After defeating them, the grunt runs back inside to warn the others.
Inside the building, the Player will encounter Rock and Elecman who will ask for his/her/their help on disarming the bombs being set up around the building. Following that, they split up and the Player traverses through the Convention Center to take down specific Grunts that are setting up explosives around the place. When the Player finally reaches the place where their Rivals, Dr. Light, and many other important figures at the convention are being held hostage, along with ES' leader, Xander Payne.
Payne is surprised by the Player's sudden appearance but mocks them for trying to them, before having his brother Theo fight them. The Player defeats Theo and Rock and Elecman enter the room to report that the remaining bombs had been defused. Xander only laughs, informing them that they missed one before attempting to take the Player hostage. Elecman and the Player's Following Pokémon gets in the way before Xander can do anything.
Enraged, Xander pulls out a gun but gets knocked out by a strange figure calling himself Auraman. Aura explains that he defused the last bomb while Xander was distracted with the Player before disappearing. Afterwards, Emerald Spears flees at the authorities arrive.
The Player is named a hero by the attendees, but little do they know that they've become a target for the terrorist group.
ES is fought countless times after that. The Player foils another attempted attack down the road before finally confronting them one final time, and fighting Xander himself to stop him from capturing the Mascot Legendary of that respective game.
Members:
Grunts:
Low ranking members of the organization who mostly do all the dirty work. They are typically dressed in green military like uniforms and are the most common ES trainer the player fights.
Following their failed ARTS attack. A few grunts are found hiding within the local gym but get promptly arrested.
Some grunts are encountered in the post game following the disbandment of the group as part of a post game side mission. When defeated, they will give the player an item they had stolen which can be used to obtain one of Rokia's legendaries.
Admins/Notable Members:
ES has two notable members: Theo Payne and Simone Miller
Theo Payne:
Xander's little brother and second in command. Despite being a member of ES, he's become quite wary of his older brother's more and more violent methods of achieving the groups goals. He's opposed to having humans getting hurt as a result of the groups actions and even shows some reluctance when it comes to fighting the Player, knowing full well that Xander could easily hurt him/her/them.
However he's still extremely loyal to his older brother Xander.
Simone Miller:
Theo's girlfriend and a notable member of ES. Once a member of the Police Academy before violating regulation and fleeing. Simone is well known for her violent tendencies and seems to take great pride in tormenting both Robots and those who oppose the group. A loyal follower of Xander who's not afraid to back down from a fight with the Player.
Though it's said the only reason she's even dating Theo is due to his undying loyalty to his brother.
Leader(s):
Harvey Greenleaf:
Former leader and founder of the Emerald Spears before he was overthrown and arrested. He doesn't like using force and prefers more civilized manors when it comes to his plans. (Unlike in the Archie Comics, Greenleaf was arrested before the Start of Pokémon Natural/Technological). He's still a firm believer in his goals even after being taken into police custody.
During the events of Nat/Tech, Greenleaf is revealed to be cooperating with the International Police (Mostly against his will) in order to track down his former organization. Reluctantly, he acts as a guide for the Player during some of the later ES related stuff all while being monitored by Looker.
Xander Payne:
The current leader of the ES with an extreme hatred of robots following an incident that caused him to loose his left eye. He's willing to use any means possible if it means of achieving his goals and views anyone who doesn't stand with him to be against him. Once he has his sights set on something, there's no stopping him.
Xander is encountered quite a few times throughout the story but isn't fought until the climax. Quite a few times, he attempts to take out the Protagonist but is always stopped before he can cause him/her/them any harm.
He is shown to be loosing his sanity, believing his actions to be preordained and that this is the path he must take to achieve his goals. Once he is defeated by the Player, Xander completely snaps and goes into a state of hysteria before him and the rest of his team are arrested, leaving the Player the chance to catch the Legendary Pokémon he had awoken.
Post Game, after the player helps to track down the remaining members of the ES and get rid of the group for good. Xander is reported to have escaped police custody as well as the emergence of a strange group calling themselves the X Corporation. Space-Time distortions begin appearing all over the region as familiar faces and strange Pokémon from distant timelines and Worlds are thrown into the present. While a new foe only known as Mr. X steps up to the plate, intent on hijacking a project of Aspen's known only as Project Calypso.

Mr. X / Xander
The main antagonist of the Post-Game Story, Variable of X, and the True Final Boss of Nat/Tech.
His real identity is Xander Payne, having time traveled back into the past in one last ditch effort to get revenge against the Protagonist for his prior defeat. He waited for about 30 years, managing to establish the X Corporation out of a ton of shell companies and was one of Wily's benefactor's for his schemes.
He was also the one responsible for an attempted hijack on the Calypso Project, which nearly costed Professor Aspen her life 10 years prior to the events of the story.
During the post game story, Mr. X and his company fund help to fund a regional tournament which they plan on using as a distraction for the populous of Rokia and as a way to cover his tracks. However things quickly start to go south as Space-Time distortions begin popping up all over the region.
As the player and his/her/their allies continue their fight against the X Corporation and the chaos they have unleashed throughout Rokia, he/she/they begin to uncover Mr. X's true motives.
Minor Antagonists:
Dr. Wily:
Wily takes a backseat for a majority of the game, only appearing in the beginning. He does, however, get back to his old schemes in the postgame. During a Postgame Sidequest mission, the Player Teams up with Clef to stop Dr. Wily from coming up with another evil sceme.
