Kalana is a small but plentiful region far south of the Orange Islands, thirty years ago it was discovered by a evil organization called Team Ruin, and they set up several base buildings and laboratories to capture and experiment on Pokémon and find Kalana's ancient ruins. For nearly a decade they captured Pokémon and experimented on them and destroyed habitat for resources, a leakage of radiation from one lab after a containment failure caused strange and unusual changes in the native Pokémon from appearance changes to type changing, and even started giving Pokémon the ability to fuse when three certain conditions were met. It's said two Pokémon escaped from captivity to share their stories, and each rallied up an army. They formed the Pokémon Uniseon and drove off all humans from the island without mercy, this day became known as Varma day. The two Pokémon and their armies decided to build a town to give a home to all the Pokémon who had lost theirs to the humans, but neither could come to an agreement of where to build the town or what to call it, so peacefully they went their seperate ways and each created their own towns. The town known as Moonrise owned by Lord Umbreon formed in the east, while the town known as Sunset owned by Lady Espeon formed in the west. They carefully divided the land between them, assuring both got a fair amount and enough resources to survive. The two got along well for three years, trading supplies and visiting each other often as best friends, however for some reason on the fourth year, the two leaders fell into a bitter and violent rivalry and ever since the two towns have hated each other. 

Kalana's weather is always tropical, and the only snow the region ever sees is on Mt Ivoslen's peaks, up there it's very cold and icy. The well known saying in Kalana is 'when it rains, it pours' referring to how it rains at least twice a week and has a heavy storm every other week, making its jungles and forests very lush and well grown. Mt. Aclier's peak always has a raging thunderstorm, most Pokémon are certain that all of Kalana's bad weather originates from there. 

The Unknown Fog is found on the north part of the region, appearing as a massive wall of swirling white fog it has been there for eons. As legends go it is the leftovers of an intense three day battle between the legendarys Palkia and Dialga, which resulted in the rift of space in time being left behind. Should a Pokémon walk in with the intent to enter the fog, they'll be sent to a dungeon that will always have a different layout with each visit, leading to near infinite possibilities. Treasures and rare items constantly appear with each visit, however should a Pokémon stay longer then three days they will descend into insanity.  This insanity will cause a Pokémon to behave like a feral, and they will attack any Pokémon they come across. There is a chance to save them however, being knocked out and removed from the fog can reverse the fog's effects. 

After the war began between Moonrise and Sunset, a group of Pokémon from both sides elected that they still wanted to live together, but didn't want to side with either town or have anything to do with it's battles. So two camps were set up, Camp Redom and Camp Artemis. Both camps have several shops, an inn, a bank, a tavern and several other useful buildings. They are known to carry unique and rare items and special information about treasure or Pokémon, should a Pokémon know the right mon to ask. They don't side with either town, and welcome all Pokémon. Camp Artemis is a lot harder to get to, being on the South Island which is known for its Ferals, Pokémon who live without rules or law like the Civals. 

Culture wise, they believe in Arceus as their god, and see him as a wise and justifiable Pokémon who gave them thier land and their powers. Absol are seen as mythical Pokémon in Kalana (even if they aren't actually, it's what Kalanians believe.) due to their ability to see the future. They are Kalana's assigned guardians and watch from their camp high up in the mountains and only come down to share their visions in times of great peril. The Absol rock is believed to be a sign of their superiority, as its naturally shaped like an Absol's horn. They believe that when a Pokémon dies, their soul becomes a star that guides the livings. All Kalanaians are attached to nature, as they are not at all used to urbanization like cities. Kalana has three legendary Pokémon, Kulaga, Vapisyve, and Meitalva, it also has the three beasts and birds and possibly other mythical or legendaries. They have a day known as Varma day, the day of freedom, and it's celebrated with feasts and gift giving. 

The ruins of Team Ruin dot Kalana, an old mine and quarry became the town of Moonrise, and a greenhouse study became the town of Sunset. The island to the north east is the main base where the final battle took place. It's hard to see from the mainland due to smog and is separated from the Main Island by a switchback, due to it being highly unsafe from both the human technology remains and the constant thunderstorm from Mt. Aclier, it's off limits to all spare Nova and Atlas. 

Kalana's prescience is not known by any other humans spare the survivors of Team Ruin, however Pokémon off of Kalana may learn of its existence via bird Pokémon who migrate to Kalana to escape the winter, and they may be able to travel there themselves by flight or by riding a Wailord.
