Chapter 67: The Light to Live! To Breathe! To Prosper!

"There, there my little green angels. Is that enough water for the meantime?"

Serenity wasn't asking anyone in particular for a glass of water. The reason being is that was alone in her garden early in the morning. Within her personal greenhouse to be exact. Her garden consisted of large and wild plants that you could find within the heart of Lush Jungle. She watered them through a hose on a very gentle setting from her adjustable setting, which just so happens to be her favorite.

"Mmmmmm... Goodness... Ahhh..."

The woman closed her eyes, indulged in the soul-soothing sound of water soaking her plans. The sound reminds her of rainwater deep within the thickest of forests in the world. A glimpse followed up the pleasant feeling with a thought that brings her back when she was just a little girl growing up in the Kanto region. She lived within a peaceful village set in the North of the region. During the rainy seasons, she would love to sit at the window of her home and hear the cold rushing flow of water pouring down to the ground. She would even fall asleep right in her seat, only to wake up in bed because her mother tucked her in. The sound of a buzzing Pokémon snapped her out of dozing right on her very feet.

"Baaaaaaaaaaaaa!"

A small red Pokémon known as Ledyba hovers over the woman and sits on her head that has the scent of strawberries. Which was when a few more of the same Pokémon buzzed into the green house and poked around the woman. She kept hearing "Baa! Baa! Baabaabaabaa! Boo, BAA!"

It wasn't even in the slightest of annoyance to Serenity, in fact, it was her alarm clock, a natural one at that.

"Okay, okay. I am fully awake now. Thank you, sweeties. I'll be on my way if you won't mind now."

She opens the clear glass door of her greenhouse, letting all five Ledybas buzz around the flowers of love as the elegant lady puts on her Cosmo Corporation uniform, her white lab coat gets on last. Locking the door to her home, she headed on the trail that leads into town, stopping by the cafe she visits everyday before work. A double-double to make sure she's fully functional for her day of work. There isn't any rush to finish her beverage, so she takes a sip whenever she waits to cross the street at an intersection, or if she needs to wait for anyone or any Pokémon to step out of the walking path. She was halfway towards the corporation until she found a group of familiar teenagers walking through in a ridiculous manner while carrying several paper bags from a fastfood restaurant.

"Aye, yo! Whaddya think we should do afta' we eat?"

One of the kids, Tupper with the blue hair asked as he was whipping his hands around in a sense to be taken seriously, but it was tough considering how goofy it just made him look. The shortest teen nods, holding two paper bags in one and an orange juice in the other.

"Dunno. Maybe we could spray paint that sign I stole the otha day, maybe kick that soccer ball around?"

It didn't take too long until those three teens and Serenity were standing face to face, the woman waved a friendly gesture, but two out of the group looked at both of each other in a sudden annoyance.

"Good morning, children! Did you have a nice night of rest?"

The second member, Rapp tilted her head, not exactly sure where this connection was between the other two and this woman with a pure and wholesome smile.

"Rapp, Zipp. It's the crazy lady who's been in love with wildlife, ya know? The tree-hugger!"

Zipp's short height only boils him a second before he wants to give him a piece of his mind.

"Man! Not-er again! I can't stand that smile that doesn't smile back!"

"... What?"

Tupp asked, not even sure himself what the shortest member asked, but Rapp really wanted to clear something up. Just WHO was this woman and why do the boys get such a strange vibe from her?

"She be almost like one of them ninjas that can hop really high and shit! Don't ya understand, girl?"

Zipp nods, who goes on to explain their own encounter with her personally. One day, Serenity was walking on her day off, just as elegant as many girls would look up to her as. Tupp and Zipp approached the woman, not liking her "dope of a look smile" and then attempted to do what Team Skull member's do best. They were about to force her into a Pokémon battle, but what she did next left them in silence. Since they wouldn't let her pass, she leaped over the two boys, pulling off some major air while at it, she landed gracefully and shook off the wrinkles on her lime green sweater and waved them a good bye.

"What da faq?? She did that??"

Asked Rapp, although she had more questions about what happened that day.

"So y'all didn't just turn around and just make her fight you guys?? Don't be stupid on me ya hear!"

That's when Tupp and Zipp decided to defend themselves over the whole situation that was a little irrelevant.

"Aye! Aye! Aye! Don't be callin' me a fool, ya hear dawg?? You don't be askin' for favors when someone that jump super high like that! They could karate chop ya or tie you into a salty pretzel!"

When Zipp tagged in, he explains why he currently builds frustration instead of fear ever since that day.

"Yeah, until we learn that this woman who thinks she nice doesn't do anything at all, won't even accept our Pokémon battles that we ain't even giving her the option to accept!"

As funny as this was to Serenity, she held in her girlish giggles before walking up to them, a quarter of her double-double finished.

"Well, as much as I would love to stick around, you three are going to make me late, if you'll excuse me-."

That's when Serenity one again jumped over the three teenagers as she added a frontflip to her leap, sipping her unspilled coffee in the progress.

"See you all tomorrow."

She added a wink to her sweet smile, but that only pissed Tupp and Zipp even more.

"Yo! We ain't doin' this cause it's fun or we have no plans! We want to take your Pokémon!!"

"Keep laughin'!! Team Skulls gonna jump all ya ugly-ass coat ya got on!!"

Even Rapp added in her own insult before losing sight of Serenity walking down a hill.

"Plain white and barf green is SOOOOO last year! It belongs in the garbage!"

While the harsh words coming from those miscreant teenagers affect Serenity in any manner, she might have felt a little choked up when she took the long route to look to visit a tree on top of the hill. She was bluffing when she would be running late for work, she still had at least an hour and a half. She tossed her coffee cup in a nearby trash can, and looked up to a common oak tree. When she looked down, there were three sticks that dug close to the tree itself, she walked within the shade and stared at the three.

"... ... ..."

Serenity didn't say a word, she felt the cold breeze while feeling the rising rays of the warming sun. Her gaze focused within the radius of shade that the tree above covered. There was nothing in particular that this tree was well-known for, but it didn't stop the woman from visiting it just about one a week. As a little girl, there was a tree exactly as tall and wide its branches stretched, she and her little sister loved playing hide and seek at. Those memories filled her eyes with tears.

"Hi-Hina..."

She sat on the grass with her knees closed and her eyes, hearing the voice of a little girl's laughter, as if running through a grassy field, froliking above the cloud-free blue sky.

"You can't catch me big sister! You're too slow!"

"You're... You're right. I was too slow... For you, for mother, and father. I-I am sorry."

Serenity spoke to herself as she closed her arms together for a minute or two before letting go and standing up. Wiping one tear from her left eye, the other letting a tear hit the grass that connected to the earth.

"Please don't worry about me, family. I'm still a blooming flower, as happy as I could ever be. I'm sorry if my action 20 years ago displeased you, but I will continue my life, for your sake. I promise."

* * *

After a second of wiping her tears away with her handkerchief, Serenity arrives at the very entrance of the business she attends for work. With her current feelings out of her system, she takes a deep breath of the warm air, low-level employees and scientists zoom from one side to another trying to get from point A to point B. The pace might feel hectic by itself, but for the higher-position workers such as herself, there was no need to be worried. She rocked her iconic sweeter than honey smile as she walked downard the hallway and stepped inside the elevator to be taken towards the meeting room.

"Good morning, Serenity!"

The youngest among the admins, Molly, pulled the lady in for a hug, Poipole hovering right side of her. The woman wrapped her arms around the girl as well, before letting go and saying good morning to her.

"Oh! Molly! You surprised me. I take it you're having a wonderful morning?"

Her energetic head nodded, making sure to stay hidden from the center of the elevator, holding her laughter as she hid behind the button layout. Poipole even know what was going on, so it zipped close right next to the girl. Molly's childish laughter was contagious, so much that Serenity couldn't help but giggle, looking at her in curiosity.

"Might you be expecting someone? Perhaps the young men Daichi and Rōzu?"

She answered with another energizing headnod, the sight of Molly made it clear that she's going to scare the boys when they walk into the elevator. The woman agreed to be a part of the jumpscare, so she twisted her body so her back faced the metal doors. They stopped two levels below their destination, hearing the sound of the boys on a loose topic about work.

"That's what I said about UB-Lightning, but Arc insisted otherwise I'm the one who miscalculated-"

Rōzy paused mid sentence, seeing the beautiful clean hair of the woman, stepping in unaware of the prank Molly was just about to pounce at.

"Oh, hey Serenity. Mind if we tag along-"

"RAAAAAAH!"

Both of the boys flopped towards the corner of the elevator, being welcomed with uncontrollable laughter and steady giggling. Molly helped her friends back on their feet along with the woman, who smiled to know that they weren't harmed during the silly surprise.

"My sincerest apologies, boys. I didn't mean to ignore you in such a rude manner. Molly wished to surprise you, so I thought I'd help her lure you both."

Daichi shrugged, now that all settled down, wasn't at all upset. Serenity was one of the few people within the organization that you couldn't get your nerves up against, which of course, that award goes to Arc.

"Don't worry. You actually got us really good. Nice one, girls!"

Daichi chuckled, Rōzu even joined by nodding while pressing the button on the layout to reach the floor of the meeting room.

"Sorry if I'm all bent out of shape or anything. Arcs been on my case about my research on my Ultra Beast."

Despite his own chuckle, Rōzu wasn't particularly in the room to attend work, but the comforting back pats from the gentle soul did soothe his mind a little bit when they reached the second floor.

"Don't stress a single hair on your head, Rōzu. Arc... is simply trying his best to please OZone, since..."

The three youngest admins look up to the woman as if she had something to share while Molly's hand remained on the doorknob. It was meant to be between as few people as possible, but Serenity trusted the three to keep this secret with her.

"Our boss plans to let him go after our entire mission is a success. I'm afraid I cannot explain why, but that is what OZone had told me. Let's keep this between us, Arc would lose his cool if he hears me sharing this secret."

Now that, lifted Rōzu from his mood, even snickering at the fact he screwed up really bad which the boss finally opened his eyes to fire Arc. That was all he wanted to hear, before he joined Daichi and Molly inside the meeting room, he returned a smile to the sweet green woman.

"Thanks for that. I really do feel better compared to a few hours ago."

There was no need to be grateful, helping others turn around was in Serenity's place. She winked a pretty smile back as she stepped into the room, where the other admins awaited OZone for mission details. Buzz ended up having a nice conversation with Mitsuki, interested in what kind of research she has discovered from UB- Symbiont. Tony was at the far end of the meeting table, quite embarrassed trying to ask Belle out on a date, only for her to say something so crushing towards the ladies man, he was left in agony about a horrifying roast. Cypher sat right next to Buzz and Mitsuki, ignoring the endless quacks from his Pokémon, Ducklett. His face however, looks like he was going to burst out of frustration. The children joined Belle as Serenity sat right to Arc, who was working on a large pile of paperwork.

"Good morning, Arc. I trust that you're having a nice morning."

Arc didn't stop what he was doing, nor slowing his pace. He didn't even make eye contact, but he replied in a kind manner.

"I am, a very nice and productive morning. Thank you, Serenity."

A small giggle rose on the woman's face. Not many people were on such good terms with the strict and impatient man, but Serenity always kept him on his good side. She and Arc had a discussion on his current studies on his Ultra Beast, Gluttony. The conversation ended up steering off topic when the man began to grow curious about Serenity's source of positive energy and charm.

"... Serenity. I've been wondering. I admire how you let absolutely nothing crawl under your skin, I really wish sometimes I had that same immunity to life problems. I've been wondering, how do you remain in such a good mood every day?"

For a second, the green woman looked away from Arc, remembering what makes her so happy, she looked right back and confidently answered the question.

"I'm happy to be alive, Arc. I'm grateful to be blessed with luck and protection."

That's when the man stopped his paper to look up to the woman with something that was on his mind.

"... I take it that you are a Christian then?"

"... Yes, I am."

" Ahh, I see... I am too!!"

Arc may or may not raise his voice when saying that, getting several eyes on him. He wasn't embarrassed or anything, since he's quite the devout believer when it comes to Christianity.

The sight of eyes focused on one man in the meeting ended up breaking apart once the main man himself opened the door and stepped in.

"Good morning everyone. My apologies for the delay, we shall get started right away."

Turning on his projector to display details on the mission at hand and the snips of recordings and photos of the Ultra Beast that the ID3I manage to take before stepping into the Ultra Space. Despite its current progress of previous beasts captured on tape and on camera, the machine didn't have much captured to break down on. What it did catch on video is unbelievable to everyone in the room.

"Now then, I will keep details brief due to the lack of data collected. Take a look at this."

With the press of a button, the slides shifted to the video OZone uploaded onto the projector and played the recording. The Ultra Space environment took place in a forest, something super small floated in the wind. Everyone but Serenity assumed it might have been the leaves blowing in the wind, but the woman knew, it was alive and moving with a mind of its own.

"Huh, for a world inhabited by dangerous creatures, some of them have incredibly beautiful scenery."

Belle took in the surroundings of the video, not paying entire attention to the small figure moving along with the leaves in the wind. It appears to stop in front of a large rock. One second after swinging its entire body, the top half of the rock slid off clean, which took back everyone a tad.

"Oh my goodness..."

Mitsuki felt a shiver down her spine after the rock thumped on the ground, Tony wanted to comfort her, but the falling stone shook him up as well. All he could say didn't make the woman feel any better, but it's the thought that counts.

"Oh man... Take my hand, Mitsuki. Please..."

While the two shaking admins held hands to comfort each other rather than to be flirtatious, Buzz took a close at the recording and made a guess at what caused the rock to crumble above.

"Look at how clean the top of the stone was removed... How can something so small be used so well?... If I had to provide a thought, it sliced through without any lag or jagged results, maybe like a blade of some sorts?"

That definitely could've been a possibility, but for a creature to be so small responsible for slashing stone clean sounded like an impossible feat to pull off.

"It shouldn't have been able to cut something so dense if it's small and light enough to be drifting in the wind."

Cypher closed the beak of his chirping Pokémon while commenting his own thoughts if the moving creature was responsible for such a clean slash. Something about it made Serenity stand up to confirm that it had to be it, getting a surprised reaction among the group.

"Pardon me, Cypher. I believe-no. I know it's what is floating away in the air. No other forms of life are present."

OZone was definitely pulled in on how Serenity was pitched in, even acknowledging how much she felt the need to stand up in the process. Along with her comment in regards to other signs of life in the small recording of the ID3I.

"So you believe it couldn't have been anything else that caused such a clean cut into such a hard material?"

Serenity nods, even volunteering to be the one to assist OZone into the Ultra Space to capture the species, hoping to get a closer look when they find the Ultra Beast that's raising eyebrows. She seemed quite eager to get started, as she walked out of the meeting room before OZone could even dismiss everyone. However, this did not come as a surprise for several reasons he thought up. When he left the room himself, the meeting came to an end, everyone else were either assigned to resume current study on their own Ultra Beasts, while others were tasked on assisting the low-level employees. OZone grabbed his backpack along with several Beast Balls as he headed down to the room where the Ultra Wormhole is to open up with the help of the ID3I. Serenity was seen in the room lost in thought while holding her own bag of emergency equipment and supplies.

"Hello... Serenity."

"Good afternoon, sir. Are we ready to be heading out?"

It was good to have some anticipation when it comes to getting your job done, but in all honesty, OZone felt uncertain about the woman to be stepping into an entire world which was engrossed in green wildlife. Not just any trees and plants randomly picked in our world, but somewhere Serenity knew her instincts deep down she just had to see for herself, the atmosphere felt too much like the Kanto region.

"Please, let it go. We can't let the others wait for too long."

* * *

Serenity steps into the Ultra World as soon as the wormhole expanded wide enough to be stepped inside to. OZone couldn't tell if the woman was pleased by the nostalgia of her home village in the East, or if she was aching to capture the beast and get it over with. You couldn't even tell by her gentle expression on her face, if it read "Do not worry, such an environment brings me back to my days when I was just a little girl." or "This world almost feels as big as the forest I used to roam. I once enjoyed those memories when I was little." OZone spoke up just to make sure Serenity was feeling down on herself to be wandering such a growing environment.

"Hey, Serenity. Nice Ultra World here, don't you agree?"

The woman nods, looking up to the high trees that dropped sharp leaves down to the ground, dancing in the wind as they fluttered towards Serenity's feet. She felt a sense of joy for the environment, but she knew this wasn't a kindergarten field trip, so she walked down a trail right side of her boss. The deeper she walked down the trail that squirmed left to right, she couldn't help but to lose herself in her mind, familiar voices singing inside of her head from those she has grown up with in that village of Kanto.

"Serenity? Are you-"

OZone tried making some small talk to comfort her from the nostalgic silence of the whispering trees and cluttering branches in which let go of the leaves attached, but she did not respond. Travelers, neighbors, shop-keepers, and family was all she could hear. Serenity's baby sister Hina eventually cleared the other voices, but that doesn't mean things went any better from there.

"Let's play hide and seek, big sister!" C'mon, you're a Slowpoke!"

Serenity giggled, hearing that innocent voice filled her with life, but one awful tragedy changed her life, in which could have ended her own life for the matter as well. It all started with a trail of black smoke from the sky. Young Serenity picked berries to bring home to make a smoothie or a pie with the collected goods, but the smoke's direction came from her village. Out of panic, she rushed back home abandoning her berries. A fire in the distance, spreading too big to be contained by the villagers alone, evacuated while pulling everyone's Water-Type Pokémon to their limits. The flames unfortunately died out from all the effectors of the village, but the origin remained through the possibility of an unattained fire, or if the dry plants started a small flame from the beating sun above. Many lives were lost that day, no signs of her parents or little sister were seen. A sickly feeling rose in her stomach, Serenity checked her entire village and asked if anyone had seen her family, but all she had were shaking heads. She eventually tried the one place where she believed her parents would be guaranteed, home.

"... ... ..."

Serenity had a grim feeling of despair, her fists tightened only remembering what the girl came home to on the search for her missing family. Charred debris, everything that was there previously such as her home, her mother, father, little sister, and even the grass and their garden, all burned to the ground. Adult Serenity sobbed whenever she thought about how fortunate she was to stay alive while her parents and sister weren't. It was just a feeling of unforgiving despair, one where she didn't think was fair.

"Mother, Father, Hina, forgive me-"

She eventually was taken from her home village by a traveler she knew and taken to her grandmother's home to live. She loved her grandparents, but she was very unhappy to be alive when her family weren't. To be shortly sheltered after such a tragedy, it was all too comforting for the girl. She'd cry just thinking about wildfires and flame related disasters whenever she'd hear news from a nearby villager.

"Serenity, Serenity!"

A voice echoed from the very back of her mind, someone trying to stop her as she stood upon the stone bridge of a rocky river. Young Serenity knew that if she were to dive head first into short water levels like that, it would be over. And when she attempted to jump, she was forcefully pulled away from the ledge, from the exact same person she just so happens to be traveling with.

"What on earth were you thinking jumping like that?? Were you trying to harm yourself??"

It was a contactless slap to the face from OZone 20 years ago. He was just out on vacation and sees a young girl attempting to join her family thinking it would be fair to join them who were currently far away. OZone grabbed the current tearing Serenity by the shoulders and comforted her, knowing she was facing those flashbacks after walking into territory reminding her of home.

"Hey, Serenity, hey. It's okay, it's okay. Those days are behind us now, deep breaths."

The younger OZone rightfully scolded her for her immoral decision, even after Serenity screamed what happened to her own family, however he wasn't taking any of that. What he said next made the little girl silent, to tear up after some serious thought about her actions.

"Is this what your parents and little sister really wanted from you? Have you considered if they're happy that you aren't in harm's way? No, they would be heartbroken if they knew you were attempting to jump off of that bridge."

The little girl lost that fight, which was when OZone walked her back to her grandmother's house, explaining why she should carry on with her life despite such a burning tragedy.

"I know it's hard to take in what has happened, and I didn't mean to yell at you like that. You should be happy you're safe from that day. You have your whole life ahead of you, and your family wants you to press on, they wouldn't want any other way."

Before he headed out after returning the little girl, she didn't want him to leave, his guidance and advice were simply unforgettable. She bagged him to stay, but her cute actions made him chuckle, and gave her a business card of Cosmos Corporation.

"If you really want to meet again, come on to the Alola region. Maybe we can catch up then."

At the very end of the flashback, Serenity woke up from her daydreaming, just like an old school filming camera ran dry out of film. Suddenly, an unnerving sound rustled in the grass. Serenity stopped her footsteps, OZone jerked his head around to make sure they weren't being followed by the very small being that was caught by the ID3I.

"No need to worry, I am no harm to you, young ones."

A man wearing apparel similarly to Kanto clothing even with a conical hat approached the two with his hands behind his back. Serenity immediately bowed, thankful that he wasn't immediately attacking her or attempting to push the two off his land. OZone wasn't as alarmed as the woman to find other life forms other than the Ultra Beasts after meeting the odd, but friendly man in the biohazard suit when visiting UB-Gluttony's world.

"I-"

Serenity cleared her throat after regaining her mind and vision and returned from her bow.

"Forgive us, we are currently in sword for a particular creature that has enough power to slash rock clean."

Speaking of the existence, a small beast in the really weird form of an origami star with two thin steel blades hovered behind the man.

"You must be talking about ol' Arms of Steel here, I presume? If you wish to take it along with you, I don't mind in the slightest."

Both Serenity and OZone look in awe towards each other, surprised to hear that this man didn't mind offering this Ultra Beast to them, and without anything in return.

"Are you sure you do not want anything back in return?"

OZone asked, just in case if the man decided to take back his generous offer, but ended up shaking his head.

"It won't be necessary. They are harmless creatures to all living and moving things, but it doesn't stop and think twice of cutting down our rooted resources and ore. My gift to you, young travelers.

Bowing and walking away, Serenity pulled out an Beast Ball and captured Arms of Steel. Now that they had what they were looking for, they headed on back home, Serenity returning to her peaceful sense of reality.
