Chapter 65: Soaring Over Neon Heights!

Life doesn't always go the way you want it to be, doesn't it? Yup, life can either be a pleasant surprise like a box of chocolates, or it can bite you right in the rump. Or it can even end up in a car crash that costs your arms and legs. Now, I have never been in any situation where I harmed myself that bad, but I have in a mental manner. Okay, maybe in an dramatic way, I have physically harmed myself after my life fell like a Fletchling hit with a Smack Down. I may have recovered from such a super-effective move from a Rock-Type, but I can't fly because of the secondary effect... for now. One of these days, I will take return again and drink all the wine and women I did over several years ago!...

...

... I should probably introduce myself. The names Tony, wine lover, a ladies man, and a man of music. I fell in love with the lady song herself ever since the day my mother took me to a jazz concert. It was something I never could dream of forgetting. I was a young man with big dreams and ideas. Ever since then, I imagined myself on stage, with the music that was written by yours truly driving everyone to tears with an inspiring voice, one that drives hearts to tears! My path to stardom all started with an acoustic guitar that I was given on my thirteenth birthday and a lot of singing rehearsals took place in my momma's bathroom. Now, just like all musicians, I had my rocky starts. Nobody liked my music, saying I was ripping off much more successful people in the music business. Day and night, I tried writing the perfect song that I could really make my own, but all hope was lost, I just wasn't feeling the music hard enough. Until one fateful day... I met the woman of my dreams...

I can picture that day like the back of my hand. I was just on a bench trying to work on my song, I was joined by a young lady with blonde hair, looking like she was lonely, exactly like them girls who don't have a date to the ball. Her name was Leilany. I offered to buy her a crepe cone to make her feel better since that's how I make myself better. She might have thought I was being humble in her time of need, or maybe she was caught in the hold of my charm. Either way, the inspiration of my song has been discovered! A girl was my answer! That very night, I watched a movie where a cool guy got all the ladies by the end of a movie. Don't get me wrong now, I liked Leilany, but Tony for a fact isn't held just by one woman. Anyways I performed that song at this contest, and before I knew, I became a star in the Kalos region! I was earning fame in Cyllage City, Anistar City, and can't even forget Lumiose City, the big maama of the region. Since then, I was booming hit after hit, all thanks to the love of the ladies, gotta admit where I speak the truth, and my motivation for wine.

I've tasted all of the best wines across the region of Kalos. My albums were flying off the shelves and I was living the best life in my big mansion! My dream became a reality, I had everything I had always dreamt of having right in the palm of my hand!.. Until I fell into rock bottom, I lost everything before I could even realize it.

It all started with this party, one I could never forget. Well, kinda. I was pretty hammered on wine, so I don't remember all of the details then, but I think I hit a woman who was also a singer. Either that or I hit her boyfriend who pushed me into that woman making me look like a piece of shit... It was really a blur, but boy it had a toll over my career. My sales were only a quarter of what they used to be after the news covered how I hit a woman, thinking I treated them like toys or hookers, it was all a mess in the end. Had to move out of my mansion because I could no longer afford to live there anymore, in other words, I was just like Oliver Twist. I had nothing. Everyone knew who I was, looking at me like I was some type of monster, I thought it was all over from there. Then a glimpse of hope dawned in my head. My career might be dead in Kalos, but I can come back bigger than ever in seven other regions in the world! It was genius! Although I was stumped to figure out where I should start over, so I went to my cousin Vinny's for some advice. He owns a bar, so it was my go to place now and again.

I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but he was all set to move into this tropical arrangement of islands known as the Alola region. Sounded like a great idea to me! All the babes on the beach, some cute hula dancers, and especially the ladies that serve those rainbow colorful drinks was enough to sign me up! So Vinny tagged me along for the move on Ula'Ula Island, the biggest one out of the four. I realized I had to scrape the money to get me a new guitar and my own place for rehearsal before I spread my wings once again for the music industry, so I've been working alongside in the bar with ol'Vin working behind the counter. It was a massive hit with both tourists and locals alike, so we made bank!

One night over a year since we opened in the Alola region, I'm off of work and decided to have a couple of drinks, and get this; I was talking to a regular who soon became known as the boss I worked for. He seems like a cold man when he's sober, but when he gulps down a Bloody Mary and an Old Fashioned in one night, he really becomes a part of your family. We were laughing, maybe I sang him one of my songs, and he clapped for me. He asked if I was interested in joining an organization for him simply because he liked me a lot. Of course I said yes, mostly because I was just as loose as he was that night. Little did I know, he meant what he said even when he was drunk. I thought he was going to fire me on day one since I didn't have any skills, qualifications, or experience for what he set me to. I assume the boss-man knew I was inexperienced, so he appointed me to his second in command, Arc, to teach me the ropes of Cosmos Corporation. I always get the feeling that he may not like me so much, but it's ten times worse when he's dealing with three children he has a really bad grudge against.

That's where I am to this day. Things have been a little bit out of the box, or off the rails, or however the saying goes. What turned from ordinary filing and paper printing turned to a life of capturing extraterrestrial lifeforms across countless dimensions. Now, this is something I didn't expect to go through in my life, but I don't hate it either. I'm doing pretty good for myself and the other admins seem to be on average so far, no one found out about my past in Kalos, so I'm in the clear, my dream to take flight will commence soon!.. Even if my singing career has to wait until we rescue OZone's boss from the Sinnoh region, Cyrus.

My last day of work inside the laboratory office was so death-frightening, I thought I was going to die as a man who hasn't marked off all of his list of life goals. In other words, an incomplete man. Thankfully, I didn't kick the bucket yet, I made it through my mission to live another day. Our day started by gathering into the big conference room that's attended by the VIP, or qualified personnel, the other admins and my boss. Arc was finishing a crap-ton of notes on his clipboard, Daichi and Molly asking questions about Rōzu's Ultra Beast, Belle and Serenity we're talking about something lady-like, I dunno, I'm not a woman. Belle was checking me out like she normally does, just a slight stare before looking down, trying to play it cool on me. Buzz fantasized about Bug Pokémon like always, and Cyrus sat in his seat listening to his Ducklett's endless quacking, the fact his attention is fixed on that bird creeps me out. Thankfully the big man burst through the door, everyone piped down, including me. Only the sound of footsteps was all anyone could hear. If your friends are around 18-21 and they haven't been to a bar ever since they made "goals" and "dreams" they might not have the patience for your bullshit if they haven't had one drop of alcohol to lose them up.

"Oh, sweet Tony, are you feeling ill today?" Serenity asked, her charming eyes blinked and her voice snapped me out of my silence as I was admittingly lost in thought about tonight's dinner. "I haven't heard you say anything coming through the door, so I was concerned for a second."

I had to say something super smooth to at least get a cute giggle out of that woman. I swear, if the soft voice of girls could be used as medicines, we would have found a cure for cancer centuries ago. I brushed off my shoulders and pulled out my lucky pocket comb I always carried with me and stroked my hair with it. I made sure to play it chill myself making sure to act like I wasn't into her, followed by a smile with teeth so clear, you can see your reflection through them.

"Me? I'm all quiet because I have nothing on my mind, so there's no point in chattering about anything really." Here it comes, my hook-shook for a line of dialogue so smooth, I'm going to need a saxophonist to play me out. "Well, there's one thing on my mind that's worth the commotion."

Serenity tilted her head, unaware of I was trying out a pick-up line on her rather than replying to her concern. "What might that be?" My opening couldn't be better, I had everything set up to unleash my line, I was just about to say it, but OZone kinda ruined my conversation and kinda blocked me for all the guys who get what I'm saying."

"Tony? Excuse me, Tony." The man's voice focused entirely on me which shook me and my heart. I sneak my comb back into my pocket like some teenager with a cell phone in school. I sat up with my back straight to show I was all ears from the beginning, but something tells me it was ineffective.

"OZone?" I lightly said back when I suddenly heard the sound of pressing contained laughter, from Belle in particular, I didn't understand what made her laugh so hard to put her hands over them, but I had a sickly feeling that I knew the reason why. My pick-up line. It should've went like "There is one thing on my mind and that's you, baby." Like I said, smooth! Saying it out loud with everyone listening, it sounded almost as if I was hitting on my own boss like; "There is one thing on my mind and that's OZone." Needless to say, I felt very humiliated.

Luckily, nobody else heard me, except for Belle... that's a problem I might have to fix with her so she doesn't get the wrong idea. Today was a real doozy, another one of those Ultra Beasts have been spotted, OZone was dead set on going to capture them all. It's almost inspiring to see him travel to all these worlds with his workers to these different worlds to reach his goal. If OZone made an album that entirely centers around his life and job, no doubt would sell a million copies.

"Thank you for meeting with me today. Our next mission is no different then the previous ones. So I'll keep the details here short. We have discovered the Ultra Space containing the biggest beast by far, surprisingly bigger than UB-Gluttony by height."

OZone sighed perhaps from a sense of overwhelming worry in containing these things and personally I don't blame him. I get that we're studying them and taking highly cautionary notes and steps so we don't end up with an accident that costs us our lives, but still. I know I'll eventually have to get one of those things myself for research, but I don't know if I'm ready for that kind of top-secret responsibility...

"Did you find out what kind of Ultra Space this beast lives in?"

Rōzu asked, while Molly was slightly distracted by the UB she was more or less tasked to be taking care of.

"Is there like a theme to this Ultra Space that may tie in with our targets biology?"

Daichi asked afterwards, which was a slight surprise to me. The boys have been a lot motivated as of late ever since Rōzu obtained his own Ultra Beast, so he was paying slightly more attention then he would have without it. Everyone seemed surprised to see how invested the two boys were, as far as to ask questions, but OZone wasn't at all. In fact, he smiled.

"Good question, boys. What I have discovered was a strange wasteland consisting of equators that damaged the ground."

OZone projected these photographs on the screen which looked like a meteor shower have destroyed Haina Desert here in Ula'ula. The last image he showed us on screen was this weird structure with two giant harms hovering around it, so it was strange rather then terrifyingly dangerous like UB-Gluttony and UB-Absorption, even if it was taller than both of them combined.

"Is that the Ultra Beast itself, sir?"

Buzz pointed toward the last image, with its weird hovering arms as shown.

"I bet it is. I wouldn't put anything behind what these monsters could be at this point." Cypher sighed, a little drained of the odd shape of the Ultra beast just like OZone.

"Actually, if I may share a piece of my own thoughts about this one in particular, I kind of like it. It looks so... majestic from a far away distance."

Mitsuki felt a lot relaxed compared to the previous Ultra Beasts, which did help us relax just a tiny bit more. Although she wasn't wrong now that she pointed her thoughts on the structure. It was big, but doesn't look like anything that wants to eat me, so what the heck. When OZone asked which one of us would like to take this Ultra Beast under our wing, I volunteered.

"Me, sir. If that's okay."

Arc seemed impressed by my sudden decision to step up, honestly, it made me feel a little good about myself to be complimented like that.

"My, my. I wasn't expecting you to be so humble for your selection, Tony. I was expecting you to request your mission thinking it would be some piece of cake. It makes me happy you seem to be taking your duty seriously. Not like some people here."

I really don't know if I should be flattered for the compliment or to be offended by the insult, but anything to get Arc's approval is a good thing I guess."

"Arc, can you really go one day without insulting me or my friends?"

Molly groans, knowing Arc's comment was directly for her and the boys. Strange enough, Daichi and Rōzu didn't even hiss an insult back towards the man with a grudge, so this meeting seems more intact compared to several we had as of late. We we're dismissed five minutes early after everyone else were given tasks while OZone and I prepare for our journey into Ultra Space. It feels so different not to be given one myself since I'm kinda used to being tagged along with everyone else, but since I volunteered to go across a different dimension, I'm the admin of the day in a way.

So we were gearing up for the trip, making sure we had plenty of Beast Balls to make sure the capture of the Ultra Beast will go smoothly, first aid, and Pokémon necessary for battle.

"Tony," OZone looks at me, all set to head out, and I'm just sitting here trying to decide if I should bring trail mix in case if there's going to a mountain or two to hike. "Don't get too worked up over this mission. I have your back in case if you need a hand against our target." He pats me on the back, which in all honestly made me feel a little bit better. I'm no twelve year old by all means, I just... always liked back pats. They were always a sign that you weren't alone, someone you know and keep so close in your friendship circle. He knows that I still pretty nervous about the mission.

"Thanks, OZone. I wasn't expecting to be nervous at all, but actually accepting the mission. It's different." I kind of felt dumb for thinking this, like a kid about to take a test without studying and just to shrug and say, "I got this! This is fine."

"Don't get too caught in your shadow," Next thing I know, he sits right next to me and shared with me his own experience in the Ultra Spaces he has stepped into so far. "The very first mission with Arc, I just like you, honestly afraid myself. The world I stepped into was an urban city, nothing but collateral damage, one citizen, and UB-Gluttony. What I learned is that its going to take more then a powerful Ultra Beast to top all of that. The crater wasteland I've looked into isn't awful. I hope you'll come through when you see it for yourself."

Helping me off of my seat, we grabbed our backpacks and headed into the room with the ID3I and before we knew, we were transferred no doubt light-years away from home. Ultra Space felt... empty if you ask me. The land was nothing but equators, geysers sprayed steam from the ground, which explains the muggy fell on my skin.

"Ick. Alien or not, how can anything live in such unpleasant environments?" I asked while fanning myself and loosening my jacket to reduce heat as much as possible. The temperature didn't even phase OZone, he followed the green trail up an equator.

"You'd be a little surprised just how extraterrestrial life manages to survive in such unthinkable conditions. I've seen it myself, and this isn't all too bad." This shouldn't come as a surprise, but it still gets me nonetheless. He isn't promoted as the captain of his own corporation for nothing, I guess. I didn't want to slow him down, so I pushed the pedal as best as I could to catch up.

We crossed a river of this green substance using these stone monoliths to cross. Halfway through, we're forced to stop in our footsteps when the earth began to shake. Not going to lie, I was scared straight to the sudden quacking, and almost fell into the unnatural pool in the equator. It definitely wasn't an earthquake that caused such a disturbance, it was an Ultra Beast. In the distance, the thing from the photos we reviewed took flight into the sky, disappearing from the sight through the yellow muggy sky. As much as it sent a chill inside of me, it reminds me of myself. I want to fly again, as weird as it is to be reminded of my dream outside of my home. I was glad I chose an Ultra Beast with the ability to take to the sky, I can live my dream both literally and figuratively! Once we fulfill OZone's ultimate goal of course.

It wasn't until further down this trail where we both came to a halt. It was a rather short journey if I'm being honest, nothing worth a pack of trail mix I brought for this trip. The reason why the trail ended so soon is because the path was blocked by the same kind of Ultra Beast that took flight over twenty minutes ago. It rested within an equator, it seemed lost in sleep. It seemed easy enough, I just toss the Beast Ball and boom! We should be set.

"Make it a good toss, Tony. Just be prepared just in case if it happens to break free." OZone flicked me a thumbs up, tossing the Beast Ball high into the air, legitimately sucking the large beast even if it was grounded, but it was foolish to do interrupt its slumber. It immediately shot out, this being resembled a woman. It had this weird sheet that rested upon its back, almost like a set of hair. Its layers on its body looked like a dress or a robe. Those arm cannons up close now that I see them resemble gigantic and thick bamboo sticks. It made this bone chilling sound, one that made me feel like my soul was going to leave my body. I thought it was literally the end of me and OZone, but thankfully he snapped me out of my state of fright I had towards this... Woman.

"Tony! Snap out of it! Our real mission begins now! I have your back!"

The man takes out a Pokéball, which I think keeps his Incinaroar inside, but deep down, somethings calling in me not to fight. I have no idea what I'm feeling that makes me go against the idea of fighting this-this woman. I shouted at my boss not to engage in battle. I warned not to make any aggressive movement, which he listened from the back, it was just me and this thing. I send out my own Pokémon, Chatot, maybe, just maybe I can communicate to this thing and to apologize for my... selfish act to catch it.

"Chaaaaaaaaaat! Chatot?" My bird looks upon the shiny tower of a beast, thinking it was just some type of statue so it decided to fly onto the very top of this thing. I panicked, I pleased not to make any contact of the thing, but it ignores my warning, and rests on top it. OZone held his Pokéball tight in his hand, I don't blame it if it was about to go ballistic and blast everything with its bamboo cannons that I have a major fear of right now.

"Toooooot! Tooooooot! Toooooooooooot!" It sung, since mine and just about every Chatot in our world loves to sing. Celestella didn't end up obliterating us like I assumed how things would go. Mitsuki was right about one thing about this beast. It was... majestic. Well, something about her made me copy her in sort of way. I approached the very Ultra Beast I intend to catch, like a trust thing I guess. Trust me, I had just about every thought of running as fast as I could, but here I was pressing my hand on its hard steel body, but I thought it was into me. I couldn't tell, I didn't get crushed by its arm cannons or blasted, so hey, that's a start!

It carried me towards its heads, seeing two round eyes looking at me. It's voice echoed the area, this time, it wasn't in such a manner where it was ear-shattering. It was soothing, like it was singing a song. I really wish I could sing a song to capture this moment, but this was all so new and happening way too fast for my brain to generate words. So I stood on its bamboo cannon and bowed in an apologetic manner, similar to how Serenity does it. I could always forgive her whenever she apologizes for anything, so I thought it could work here. It lets me down as it sings with Chatot for a while more. You know, this really does bring me back down to Earth. I remember back in Kalos when I was just a little boy, I would sit on a harbor in Coumarine City at night Wailord watching. It was a rare sight to see a giant Pokémon, but when it did, it hummed a tune loud enough for me to hear. It's so weird to me, because this beast's voice reminds me of the sounds Wailord and Wailmer make.

"Ahh, screw it." I know I said this was all so new for me to sing right this second, but come on! I'm Tony, the man who's sung for weddings, shows, plays, maybe one birthday party for my niece, and for a living! What was I thinking? I climbed on that bamboo cannon of its and I really let out what I was known for!

"If I was just an ordinary man, I'd make all the money and time in the world to be with you~!"

OZone down below had his arms crossed, I don't think he knows that I was ever a well-known singer, but to witness it with my Chatot and an extraterrestrial being, he knows by now.

"Hey, Tony! Where did you learn to sing so professionally??" He calls from down below. I heard him, despite having the most fun I ever had in years! I mean, those concerts and performances were great all on its own, don't get me wrong, but to sing in sync with a 30 foot alien... doesn't always come up very often.

"Ever since I came to the Alola region!" I laughed as I swung on the top of the Ultra Beast's head, taking me back to ground level. Chatot hovers down to my head while finishing one of my songs from the last album I made before I was forced to pause my career.

"Chaaaaaaaaaat! All I gotta do, is take the last glass of wine and to sit right next to yooooooooou~. Toooooooot!"

OZone clapped just as soon as I took my foot off of the bamboo cannon, another pat on the back to congratulate me for my performance.

"Not bad, Tony. I might just have to request you for a live performance one of these days."

I know he was just joking around for the most part, but come on, I felt great after hearing that! I had a short song made of a trio of  myself, my Pokémon, and with a thirty-foot monster that literally raised me off of my feet! This is remarkable! I hopped on my two feet and tossed my Beast Ball after hearing the Ultra Beast chime in glee. Distracted by our song, this time the capture was successful. Despite the environment being uncomfortably hot, the overabundance of joy overthrew the comfort I had for the Ultra Space. Now that the missions done and we can return back home, there's something I would like to do the first chance I get...

After a late night of work of the list of requirements Arc has listed me to complete for my research, I set aside the clipboard as I took out my radio. I played a song that I might have recorded at an undisclosed location. It sounded like a song a group of Wailmers would come together and to sing, it might sound weird like your hearing through a radio transmission, but I was proud of it. A song that was by me and by UB-Blaster.

"I couldn't be happier then I was twenty years ago..." I said as the song comes to an end. Staring at the starry sky as I popped open a bottle of my favorite wine.
