Chapter 5: Festival Frenzy!

(The following chapter has a plot that differs between Pokémon Sun: The Series currently by Hithereyo14 . If you wish to give her your support or if you would like to see what Saki is currently up to, her chapter 5 is up to read! Thanks for your support! Enjoy!)

Another gleaming morning rises into the cold air, where the light that bypasses blinds open cracks awakens most of the people and Pokémon on Melemele island, Bob is no stranger to the method of getting out of bed. Slapping on a red, white, and blue shirt, pants, shoes, and a hat, Bob was ready to start his day.

"Wake up Rowlet! We got a BIG, big, big day ahead of us,"

Bob picked up his sleeping Pokémon, not quite ready to start the day.

"We have an entire day to prepare for, aaaaaand we're off!"

Bob tosses his Pokémon into the air like pizza dough, starling the bird, falling right down to his hands.

"Ahh good! You're awake, let's grab some breakfast and head on out!"

After several slices of toast with a spread of butter and jelly, the boy walks right out of the hotel. Before leaving the premise, he noticed a shaking trashcan, a wagging tail loosely sinking in as crumbled-up papers and soda bottles falling around the rims of the can.

"Uh oh... What do we have here?..."

Trying to get a good look without approaching the ground, the can bangs into the ground as a Pokémon comes out with a week-old slab of meat in its snout.

"What kind-a Pokémon is that..?"

Bob wanted to know more of this street wandering Pokémon who had a black coat and a red snout.

Out of the door of the entrance, Bob's cousin and his Pokémon Herdier (whose nickname Tyrone) rushed right outside responding to the clanging of trash cans.

"What's going on now?? Papers and deadlines DO NOT go hand in hand!"

He scans the entrance of the hotel, mostly zooming where all the noise could be heard at. The face on Bob's cousin dropped to an annoyance.

"Aww, man! Not you again! Get out of my property!"

The angry young man waved his broom to scare off the loose Pokémon, which only seem to upset it than anything, but Tyrone began to bark, attempting his own way to scare off the Pokémon, which grows a face that not everyone would find so pleasant. The Puppy Pokémon barked angering towards one another as if fighting for territory. The whole scene ends up with his cousin throwing the broom right at the Pokémon, finally scaring it off, a huff and hair straightening eased the young man.

"... Tough week, ain't it cousin Ernesto?"

Bob pats the back of his family, who began to sweep up the mess that was made.

"I'll say," The man sighs again hoping for sympathy from anyone around him. "You don't want to be late cousin Bob... You outta get going."

Getting out of his hair, he rushes to the Pokémon School, where everyone was already seated.

"Alola Bob! Guess what happened just a while ago!"

Ash greets the boy as he walked in, but instead of answering right away, he plopped onto his seat, thinking of the upcoming festival that was starting this evening.

"Good morning Bob, I hope you aren't feeling empty on the outside~"

Lana winks, throwing an unavailable wink at Bob, who pretty much flops out of his seat, referencing her... 'little secret'

"Oh, dear! Bob! Bob! Are you okay??..."

Lillie helps the boy back into his seat, as Bob gulped the pressure that sprung to his throat. The idea of a girl throwing her secret in disguise was like getting hit with a baseball or frisbee in the face. They were meant to be caught with a hand, not the face!

"I feel quite empowering Lana. That fall was just a mere test of what I have in store for tonight, and I'm gonna bring the blooming nature with my buddy Rowlet today!"

Rowlet flies right back up to his head and backs up the boy by posing a victory pose, amusing Popplio, and Togedemaru.

"Pop! Popp!"

"To-to-to tog!"

The hopped, as the professor of the class Kukui walks in and waves to the classroom.

"Alola class, sorry I'm late. I have just gotten my copy of my schedule of duties for the festival tonight for Tapu Koko!"

The event excites the class, except the one dud who focused her attention on Akemi, who nuzzled, making her chuckle.

"Now if you want to help, I got some assignments for you all as well,"

Kukui opens the copy of his schedule and flips a page.

"Mallow, Lillie, Lana, you'll be assisting with any kind of food preparation!"

The three girls stood up, eager to be working with one another.

"Doing the things you love alongside your best friends is hardly called work!" Mallow puts Bounsweet on top of her head, who twirls in a girlish fashion.

"Bou bou bounsweeeet!"

"Next up, Kiawe and Sophocles! You'll be helping with me setting up at the construction site, physical labor!"

Sophocles stood up and stretches his legs.

"Not too shabs! I'll lend you the strength I have! Physically and mentally!"

His own Pokémon hops into an open arm, Kiawe nods his head with a smile.

"Zztzzt, what doezz that leave Ashzz Bob and szaki with Professor Kukui?"

Rotomdex floated with a question mark popping on the screen.

"Ahh! That reminds me, little buddy! You three will be doing something a little bit different than everyone else,"

The mentioning of a different role made Ash and Bob's head tilt, except Saki, too busy with her own thing.

"You three should spend the next couple of hours for a good training montage. After all, you've got a special Pokémon match coming up! It wouldn't hurt you to do some warm-ups!"

Bob stood partway up and smiles, Rowlet lifting its own head up.

"Make that my very first match sir! And that's what I just plan to do today!"

Ash throws himself in the air, making Pikachu climb itself up with Ash and throw a fist.

"Me too professor Kukui, we're gonna be ready!"

Everyone in the classroom (do we really have to say it again?) let out a good chuckle, as Lana held Popplio and blinks.

"That's the spirit for you boys! I'm sure Saki feels the same way deep down."

Saki snickered to Lana's commit and huffs.

"Yeah keep thinking that. You'll probably get somewhere."

After a few minutes, Kukui leads everyone out, Lana following Bob outside and whispers something that made Bob feel something the equivalent to snapping his shin bone.

"I'm secretly rooting for you Bob~ can't wait to hear a secret of yours~"

This high blushing pressure to the face isn't healthy at all, feeling as if he was going to faint, Bob's first turn to stop was at a soda machine in the city, cooling him down from the girl and her Popplio.

"Oh Arceus, that hits the spot!"

Plopping down onto a nearby seat, the boy and his Rowlet kicked back in the sun for a second, until hearing some more clanging sounds from the corner of the street. Rushing right away, the same Pokémon from before ran away from a bakery, which didn't appear to carry anything in its attempt to catch any food.

"Stay out and ever come back you thieving no good-"

An angry employee sighed and resumed sweeping outside, acknowledging this must be the way it gathers its food. This was a clear sign that something had to be done.

"Excuse me, mister... I would like to make an order..."

Bob pauses and made a purchase of baked goods. Glancing towards small Pokémon, Bob ran after it, until Rowlet spotting it somewhere not too deep into the forest.

"Rrrr..."

It growls while gnawing on a bone, digging for remaining flavors off of clean-picked food. Stepping on a twig in an attempted to meet the Pokémon, it jumps into position.

"Woah, woah, woah... I don't mean any harm... Look! I got foood! Delicious legally purchased fooooooooood!~"

Persuading the Pokémon to mellow out through food does quite the trick as it begins to chew with lightly sparkling eyes.

"Rrrroooow!"

Not even considering any traps, it appears to be happy to have some good food without being chased with broomsticks.

"That's a good boy! A good boy are-"

Attempting to place a hand on the head, it barks to warn him not to do so, which resumes to chew on some bread.

"Right... So... I bet you like to eat... And I wouldn't mind some extra strength on my team... So I came up with a mutual agreement! How bout you come with me to a luxurious hotel room and you can eat as much as you like! And you just be part of the team!"

Too busy chewing on the big bun, Bob took out a Pokéball and lightly taps the Pokémon with it, shaking several times and a 'click!' Could be heard.

"I'll take that as a yes!"

With that, a second Pokémon has been added to his Party! With full bellies and fire in their hearts, it was time to train for the big festival for Melemele island's Deity, Tapu Koko.

Several hours had passed, getting to know both Rowlet's and Houndour's moves, Bob was all set and follows to Ike town, where almost everyone on the island seems to be. The place was almost like an Obon festival. Except lanterns to provide light were torches that had such a tropical feeling to them. Children and Pokémon ran around, and the adults appeared to have a great time.

"Oh man... A festival... Its time to partyyyyyy!"

Throwing his arms up, he ran in hope to search for his friends but tries after someone calling for his name.

"Oh no! Not again! Bob, please! You really need to watch your step!"

Lillie rushed to assist him back on his feet for the second time today, huffed, and smiled.

"My bad Lillie... Heheh... So where's everyone else?"

Looking around to find everyone, Lillie points her finger where the entire class could be seem, of course Saki was nowhere to be seen with them, but that makes Bob slightly relived.

"Alola! I found him!"

The girl takes the lead as she brings Bob up with everyone else.

"Aye Bob! It's almost your time to shine! Just do me a favor and don't screw up! Okay?"

Sophocles points a finger at Bob in a joking manner, as Bob lets loose a good chuckle, until he spots Saki chatting with a guy he never seen ever since arriving to the island.

"So how do you feel about your first battle Bob? You feel nervous by any chance?"

Kiawe brings him back to the conversation as Bob nods, not much to say about his question.

"When the battles do commence, I think you have to be right where Hala is, I think that's where Ash is right now. You should go see him."

Mallow held onto Bounsweet as she points to a direction, where the professor and the Island Kahuna were talking, Ash much too focused on the sky. It was as if his breath was taken away on how beautiful the sun setting was in this part of the region. In a way, Bob felt the same exact feeling.

Several hours into the festival later, things began to settle down, when the man of the hour Hala approached a wooden platform and spoke between the cracking torches.

"For all life on our islands... And for those who undertake life with joy in their hearts... We pray for protection for them and all of Melemele... May these battles of blooming trainers may be offerings to the deity Tapu Koko!"

Hearing the people clap, a loud cackling noises in the sky could be heard, something like:

"KOKOKOKOKOKOKOKO!"

Which excites everyone inside the festival. The very first match of all this was between classmates Ash and Bob, who were pumped to show off their skills in battle.

"Alright! It's showtime!"

Bob pounds his chest ready for some action, while Ash throw a fist in the air.

"Yeah! Good luck to both of you!"

Sophocles leaped in the air, Mallow waved her arms, and Lana stood and smiled for the trainers who were about to take place.

"Alright Rowlet! This is our very first battle together! So I'm going to start with you!"

Throwing out his Pokéball, the bird floats right in front of him. Ash surprisingly sends out the same Pokémon and takes his position to battle.

"Let the ceremony of combat commence!"

Hala officially begins the match by throwing his hands up in the air, everyone cheering for the two.

"Let's get this party started! Rowlet! Use Tackle!"

Launching itself like a torpedo, the attack lands with absolute might, Ash's Pokémon falls back from impact.

"Not bad! Lets see if you can handle this! Use Leafage!"

Ash points, as his own Rowlet creates a gust of wind with leaves made out of energy, hardly scoring any damage, but pushing it away to lose its balance.

"Oh crap! We gotta put this battle back in our favor! Use Peck!"

The sheer force of commandment and the efficient damage that his opponent took made Bob feel way more open than he ever did before. Adrenaline for even more action flowed within, Ash had a very similar feeling.

"Come on Rowlet, use your own Peck and give it all you got!"

Returning the attack, Bob's Pokémon took as much damage as Ash did, which began to tire out the new Pokémon.

"Tackle!"

Both trainers commanded as both Pokémon came into each other like two basket balls in collision, falling onto the field. Bob's Rowlet hardly gets back up on its feet, but Ash's didn't, not because it was done for, but it resumed with what it truly loved, napping.

"Oh Rowlet... You've fought your little heart out... Don't worry about it..."

Instead of being upset, Ash happily took the lost as Bob leaped in the air, for his first round going to him.

"Don't get too excited Bob! The battle has just began!"

Kiawe reminds him as he gets back into focusing mode and resumes into his regular mode.

"Alright Pikachu! Let's show him our teamwork!"

Pikachu hops into position and begins the match.

"Alright! Use Leafage!"

The gusty leafy wind creates a force which Pikachu contains its balance.

"Use Quick Attack and cut the source!"

Springing into fast action, Pikachu lands an attack that starts to descend the flying Pokémon, making the opposing trainer lose his cool.

"Q-Quick Rowlet! Use Leafage again!"

Another attempt of damage is made, but Ash was well prepared.

"Use Thunderbolt!"

The electric attack literally cuts throw the Leafage more effectively before as it zaps the flying Pokémon, knocking it out.

"Rowlet! Noooooo!"

Returning the Pokémon back into its Pokéball, Bob took a deep breath and then reached out for his next Pokémon.

"Houndour! Show this crowd your might!"

The small hound shows up with a battle ready face, not showing any fear whatsoever, Pikachu was ready for battle.

"Alright Houndour! Show them an Ember!"

Shards of flames where sent flying, making quick the damage on Pikachu, shaking off the pain, it leaps towards Houndour.

"Iron Tail!"

The attack lands, pushing the opposing Pokémon back, angry for such a heavy blow.

"Let's use Snarl now!"

Pushing Pikachu back with a screeching attack, Pikachu shook off the pain, feeling a bit... Missing...

"What's going on with Pikachu? It's not under any status conditions from that Snarl isn't it?"

Mallow looks closely to Pikachu, but both Lillie and Sophocles shook their heads.

"You see Mallow, Snarl is a move that lowers a Pokémon's Special Attack when hit."

Sophocles explains as Mallow nods her head.

"Don't give in Pikachu, Use Electro Ball!"

Landing an attack on the target, Houndour leaps toward Pikachu, ready for any attack.

"That's it! This ends here! Our last shot! Houndour! Bite!"

Before Bob could even finish this, Pikachu also had one last attack inside of it, which was a risky move.

"Combat with Iron Tail!"

Both Pokémon make contact, but Houndour suffers the most despite Typing, which knocks out the small Pokémon. The crowd and the class were silent, Bob returns his Houndour and slumps into the ground, groaning his lost as if he had an unbearable pain in his chest, but after all that, a sound of applause lightens both trainers.

"Let's give it up for Bob! You fought well!"

Ash claps his hands as Pikachu clapped too.

"Not bad for a beginning trainer! Zzt zzt!"

Rotom flicked a thumbs up, learning that from Ash despite its lack of thumbs.

"Nothing to be ashamed of Bob! You'll improve in no time!"

Mallow clapped along with the rest of the audience.

"Don't worry Bob, You'll get'em next time." Lana pats his back to the cracked boy who struggled to grin, as he shrugged, still muggy from the lost.

"I guess so... It's just that... I don't take losing well..."

Several other battles between trainers just like the boy gone by, even one between Saki and the one boy she was just talking too. She ended up losing as well, she didn't let it crawl under her skin. The festival came to a end, Tapu Koko's cry of approval echoed on the island.  Bob heading back into the hotel room, but was stopped by an old man carrying a wooden traveling cart.

"Ello'there young man! That was fine mighty fine battlin' back there!"

He croaked, acknowledged the boy's efforts, as he turns at him and nods.

"Ehh... It was alright I guess... Nothing special..."

Bob blandly said, as the old man shook his head.

"Now sunny, I've seen many people here come on over onto this island and leave, something tells me yer new here. New to the idea of Pokémon battles. We all are winners, and we all are losers! If you don't forget that, you'll go places higher than here! I'll tell ya that!"

Bob stood there listening to what he had to say, kinda wishing he could get a move on before it was any more dark outside.

"Thanks again... I kinda like too-"

Interrupted again, the old man began to dig through his wooden cart.

"I know, I know, you need to get home. Now before you do, I got something that may improve yer battling, and your gateway to the Island Challenge!"

Bob tilts his head on what might the man was trying to say.

"Island Challenge?"

Finally digging what appears to be a black wrist accessory, the hand brings forth and equips it onto Bobs wrist.

"This is what they call a Z-Ring! Something that brings the hidden power within all Pokémon for an attack you've never seen before on any region before! They usually come in white, but this one may be special... So I do hope you're considering of using it for your travels."

Impressed that a watch could do so much, Bob thanked him and shook the man's hands. After that, they went their separate ways and returned home, where they soon dozed off after a big day!
