Chapter 31: Lynn, Len, The Bark and No Bite!
At last! Saki's nightmare of her flushed out life of her failure of a father has been put into his place in prison and started a new leaf with Samson Oak as her new care taker. Now everyone could finally kick back knowing that now one they know are in any pain as to be spoken of. The sparkling sea and the heat was a perfect day that brought out the people to enjoy the gift of a natural beach day. Ash and Pikachu played in the water so cool that upon it was like swimming in your favorite beverage!
"Heads up Pikachu! Here comes a big wave!"
Tucking his feet into the damp sand, he braced himself for a wave that might just have enough strength to knock him back into the swash zone, which indeed did. But he didn't mind it for one second, in fact, the joy of laughter filled the ground of him and his closest friend Pikachu, staring upon the clear blue sky and feeling the swifting sea water soaking his hair, he really did feel like he was in paradise.
Rowlet slumbered within his backpack per usual, its love for sleep combing the blanket of heat from the sunlight made quite the convincing conditions to put someone a nap for. Litten cuddled itself in the warm sand, also enjoying this day at the beach, while Rockruff huffed and sniffed the sand, detecting something down from within.
"Rrrrrrrrrruff! Ruff ruff!"
It barked, beginning to dig its way into the sand, flickering all over Rowlet, interrupting its peace and even knocking it over as well. All the commotion gotten Ash's attention, reaching a towel to dry off his body, Rotomdex zooming its camera in on the discovery Rockruff may have found.
"Gyolly Ash! I think Rockruff juzzzzt found something!"
Popping its head right back up, Rockruff wagged its tail finding a red locket what looked somewhat new, but hard to tell since it was a tad scratched from the sand. There wasn't any pictures to go along with it, so Ash kept it thinking someone might have lost it, not even taking in the chances of finding its owner back. And when he did, something of his started to rumble, lunch time approaches...
"Oh man... breakfast didn't stick around too long... Let's get something to eat buddy! Ya with me?"
"Pika pika!"
Pikachu climbed onto Ash's shoulder and prepared for a trip to the food court, where Ash and Pikachu lunched on some sandwiches, once again, fueling the two for something else to happen.
"I'm in the mood for a battle right now! I know! Let's bring Bob a sandwich and see if he'll want a match! I wanna get back at him-"
Ash spoke, keeping his eye on Pikachu and Rotomdex, not paying any attention to whatever was in front of him, turns out to knock down a very sensitive boy, a light thump was made onto the contact of him, his clean hat leap off, also dropping a both sandwiches both boys had in possession. Before Ash could say anything, this kid bounced back on his feet, and pleaded.
"O-Oh dear Arceaus! M-My Surprise! Y-Your Surprise! I-I mean sandwich! Oooooh! I'm so sorry I was in your way! Please forgive me! I didn't mean to do anything that would have displease you so sir!"
This kid sounded like he was begging the Queen of England not to send his head off to the guillotine. Luckily Ash was able to calm him down, using just every day talk we all are used to at this point.
"Hey, hey, hey. It's okay, easy there. I'm fine!"
His face with his smile managed to ease the mind of the kid, which he still bowed in a way trying to be as humble as possible. This had to be grabbed by the shoulders just to be told that everything is okay.
"I'm more than fine with it! Please, calm down now please!"
Len, looking at Ash in a way he just had enough to deal with in his day, but instead of agony, it was more of pity. Ash now thought if he himself might have pushed the ledge a little bit more than he'd like, but Len lighted breathed and placed his hand gently over his wool vest and let go of the air within.
"Excuse me. I almost lost myself for a second there... My poor sandwich..."
Ash sweatdropped, thinking a little bit on the perfect thing to say, so they don't end up having another boxing match that replaced punching with "Sorry's" and "forgive me's".
"H-Hey hey, hey... Don't worry about that, how bout I'll get you an even better sandwich! And then we all can just look past this and enjoy ourselves."
Looking back up to Ash and even tilted his head in curiosity, he wondered if he really want provide him with another sandwich.
"Y-You really honor yourself by purchasing another sandwich product for me...? Thank you so much sir!"
Sounding like a win, Ash has gone and purchased another sandwich for the little gentlemen who's dressed up like a snobby rich kid at the local out of town country club.
"You can call me... Ash. No "sir" is necessary. Okay?"
"O-Okay Mrs. Ash! Anything for you!"
Another sweatdrop appeared on his head, the nobility within this kid is as pure as real gold. Once again, this boy straightened his crooked-free spine and bowed once again just to introduce himself.
"My-My name is Len, Mr. Ash. I will be at your service."
"I... Get you, I hope. Now, how bout we just sit down and just lay one off a bit? Like really be friends now huh? On equal footing?"
Len twisted his body in the way he was to be leaving, so his white sneaker almost slipped on the sandy concrete, but remained still. His face still had the same innocence to it, but here, he held the paper bag with two hands in front of to really let you know, he doesn't want any harm done here. Good boy.
"Mr. Ash. I don't mean to sprout any misconceptions, but this sandwich was never meant for me. I am to bring to a... Very special friend of mine..."
Ash pushed himself back up from the chair, not even confused, but glad to see Len being generous to others.
"Alright, sounds to me! Let's go deliver that sandwich!"
Down a trail that Ash has never took before, somewhere passed down a slope of Verdant Cavern, lead to an interesting ancient-looking place with stone hoops and a stone field, something in which resembles a basketball field. A girl along with her Pokémon, in which Ash has already seen before, practiced several varieties of dodging techniques in which movements were made by the sound of music. In which one that would really make the music lovers move.
"C'mon Popplio! Last round!"
"Pop! Popplio!"
Both trainer and Pokémon were in synced with the music, little faults were made as they topped it up by running up to a stone hoop and backflipped right off of it.
"Woah! Some moves! Is that your friend who you brought the lunch for?"
Ash turns to Len, who was already lost in vision of that stunning performance. Ash snapped him out of that phase and blushed away from Ash, not leaving his question out in the air.
"Correct Mr. Ash, 'she' is indeed the friend that I have brought this wonderful sandwich for... Let's go! She's a super unique and fun and I'll introduce you to her!"
Yanking his arm rougher than before, Ash knew something about this girl has bought him like an object on sale for 99¢.
"Mrs. Lynn! Mrs. Lynn!"
He calls for the girl who trains in the ancient setting. For a boy who doesn't take his manners for granite, he sure was eager to catch up with the girl who's name to be Lynn according to Len. Which her leg stretching was just interrupted by the naive call of the boy, she and her Popplio looked a bit disbelieved and somewhat annoyed.
"... You again..."
She only said. Not even a shrivel or greeting to be seen, or even eye contact. Lynn and Len must have quite the history together when the girl gave the boy the cold shoulder. Seems quite abrupt to Ash, but he and Pikachu looked in.
"Mrs. Lynn! Mrs. Lynn! I brought you a sandwich! I-I mean I lost the first sandwich, but my new friend Ash purchased me another one-"
Lynn attempted to walk off Lens nonstop chatter, as he urged himself to her the bundle that he held onto, hoping she'd take it and be grateful for it. But that wasn't the case until a flare in her eye twisted herself to him and slapped it right off of his hands, the sandwich thumped onto the ground, but was safe in its packaging. Ash's jaw opened slightly to her rejecting for a good deed Len wasn't trying to force upon her, but Lynn sounded easily upset.
"Look Len, when will you understand that the day we become friends is the day your balls finally drop in those tacky white jeans you bought from Forever 21?"
Long history to be exact, Lynn sounded like she had enough with Len, but that didn't even stop Len from picking the sandwich back up and attempted to hand it to her again.
"B-But Mrs. Lynn, if you don't eat anything until supper time, your going to become weary. A-and your vision will cross into madness, your legs will feel like jelly-"
"Enough! Just, go! Get out of my sight! I'm not playing!"
Ash could no longer stand aside while watching someone who was just trying to be a friend towards someone who was just being a total drama queen. By far, Ash stepped in front of the venting Lynn, with the urge to settle down on why she has such a dislike for Len.
"Hey, hey, hey. That's not very nice of you to push around Len when he's only trying to offer you something to eat. Why are you even being so hard on him anyways?"
"You just don't understand Ash. All day long he pesters me with all these cheesy gifts and attention, and overall, he just won't get out of my sight!"
Len was a little bit offended being called a creep, but he couldn't stand down, so he spoke, speaking from the heart.
"B-But I wish to battle you with out Pokémon Mrs. Lynn! That way we could share a laugh sometime-"
"Can'it Len. I beat you and your sleazy Growlith more times than not. Why haven't you just have the smallest idea that I want nothing to do with you??"
Lynn grew a little red, but Ash attempted to ease her off two. It was clear these two were facing certain problems with themselves. Len being too gentle, and Lynn being trying to act as if she's harder than chain steel. He needed to somehow withdraw all this energy between them, and he's gonna try it doing the thing he loves.
"Listen Lynn. You might be actually upset with Len, or perhaps you just need a new opponent for a Pokémon battle! Whaddya say? You up for a quick match with me?"
The word battle quickly gets her attention under the smoke that she just has fogged the room with, and quickly shifted gears.
"Oh? Well... I suppose a match as a nice way to get out of this mood of mine... Let's go Popplio!"
Popplio steps in front of Lynn, showing its eagerness in just how much it enjoys battling, but to Ash, it seemed rather, "different" than Lana's own Popplio. It's color pallet appeared to be different than an ordinary one, but Lynn grew a smile as if she had something to brag about.
"Yes Ash, you are looking at a Shiny Popplio! This isn't just any ordinary Pokémon either! Not only its appearance is as sparkly and adorable as I am, but Popplio has taken down big opponents before! I'm sure you're even aware of Kahuna Hala, that's right, Popplio took down his Hariyama all by itself!"
Ash caught in a gasp to hear that a Pokémon so small and cute could pounce against something so big and heavy, but that's not even saying he was backing down of the fight. Ash loves a good challenge when it's right in front of him, so he couldn't wait to start the battle.
"Well! If Popplio is the strongest Pokémon you got, than I'm going with my best pal Pikachu!"
Pikachu leaps off of his shoulders, ready to fight against something that too took down Hala's Pokémon.
"Don't bother! Type advantage or not, this win is as good as mine!"
Both trainers traded looks, the Pokémon watched their every move, Len looks like he was about to collapse just to see a battle that Lynn and her talents to shine right before his very eyes, even if that meant he was just spectating it.
"Let's take it right from the top Pikachu! Quick Attack!"
Using Pikahus insane speed to catch Popplio off guard seemed like a good idea on paper, even if Pikachu could hardly be seen on the eye itself, Lynn and Popplio didn't even flinch from the attempt.
"Child's play Ash, like, I'm not even impressed by the slightest. Use Aqua Jet!"
Popplio springing off of the ground into the air, Pikachu misses its mark, stopping its tracks to look upon the sky, Popplio bouncing from the sides, to confuse Pikachu, which ends up being hit. Popplio lands on its back flippers, arms in the air of a gymnastics pose, Lynn mimicked, as if she was the so called star of the show, Len clapped for her magnificent move, but Ash moved quickly.
"Nice shot Lynn, its gonna take more than that to run me down! Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"
Charging up and unleashing an attack sure enough to knockdown the water type in one sitting, Lynn and even her Popplio twirled, much in the zone of this simple battle. The sparkles on the Pokémons ruffles and skin coats itself with a glimmering show.
"Moonblast! Aim it for the ground!"
Popplio leaped into the air and launched an attack which involved borrowing power from the moon, the attack sends itself flying once again in the air without any harm. Ash and Pikachu again in awe just to see how easily she can full off such acrobatic abilities for such a small Pokémon.
"If I were you Ash, I would already have given up before you even accepted this match! You pestering aggressiveness stands no chance against my Popplio's untouchable performances! But if you insist, have a taste of another Moonblast!"
The attack comes whirling down towards Pikachu, Ash switching gears to keep up with the spiraling conflict.
"Quick! Iron Tail!"
Protecting itself by slashing the incoming attack firsthand, Ash took in a breather to think how he could counter the girls crazy strategy and to turn the tables to his favor, but beneath the cloud of smoke from the collision of the Fairy Type attack, Pikachu was swashed away by an Water Type attack so powerful, it sent Pikachu slamming into a concrete pillar.
"Piii... Kka..."
The Pokémon gets back up, still in the match despite two hits down while landing nothing against Popplio. Lynn couldn't help but bathe in her own cockiness, she couldn't help but enjoy the countless compliments Len has already given to her for her performance.
"W-Wonderful Mrs. Lynn!"
Thinking only a straight second, Popplio would pull some kind of scheme to push itself into the air and to swoop down and nail some scarring damage, he gets an idea to pull her down from their right where it loves to be.
"Alright Pikachu! Use Electro Ball!"
Charging up a ball of electricity, Popplio dodges it with the help of blasting of Hydro Pump onto the ground to carry itself right into the air. The force of thumping attacks caused another thick clog of smoke to fog up the field. Unfortunately, this was all of Ash's strategy, thinking that Popplio was safe by staying out of Pikachu's sight may just be enough to strike the final hit, but instead it was shocked by an overwhelming Electro Ball. That one play alone was enough to bring Popplio to the ground, unable to continue.
"No-wait, what?... What?? Poppliooooo!"
The panicked Lynn into her disbelief seeing that her superior Pokémon was to be taken down by a single blow, despite the weighing fact that the match has won because of the Type advantage of Pikachu.
"Mrs. Lynn! Mrs. Lynn! A-Is Popplio okay...?"
Len approaches the crouched girl, picking up her zapped Pokémon, the only sound coming from it was a weakened pout, Lynn twists her back to The boy, showing that she does not want him anywhere near Popplio.
"Go away Len! You're only only gonna make things worse!"
She hissed, standing up with the jolt as if she needed to zoom somewhere else.
"W-Wait Lynn!"
Ash took a step to go after the girl to apologize, but Len was quick on his feet, he swings right in front of her and takes out a Hyper Potion in a way a video game character would if they were to complete a side quest.
"Mrs. Lynn, please listen to me. The Pokémon center is a long distance from here, please use this for Popplio... Please..."
For a second, she wanted to push him out of the way, but he did have a strong point, the Pokémon Center was at least a few miles from where they stood, Popplio would've suffered too much pain by the time she reached the place within, so she laid Popplio down on a soft patch of grass, and applied the potion into the wounds, already working its magic.
"Pawww... Paaaaaaaww..."
It's voice already picking right back up, but rest was another key to instant recovery, so Lynn returns it into its Pokéball, and turns away again from any of the boys. She was silent, but she wasn't upset either.
"So, I guess I should apologize. I shouldn't have acting like that if you were trying to help."
She twists to Len, right before she swaps to Ash to apologize to him as well, for acting the same way to Len and calling him out in the battle, like a bit of a cunt.
"If I'm being honest, I didn't beat that Hariyama with just Popplio. I just said that to intimidate you."
Kinda hung on the feeling of letting something out, Lynn grounded herself in the spot she stood, but Ash doesn't mind at all.
"It's alright guys! I guess that means we're all buddy-buddy right? Come here both of you!"
Ash pulls in Lynn and Len for a great hug, learning if from his classmates and the previous journeys he has been on. But Lynn immediately pushes them both, Len a blushing mess all because he was too focused on Lynn touching him.
"To a limit boys."
"I will take that!"
Ash scooted back from the forceful shove from the girl, he noticed that something that was chilling on the small pocket on the outside on the side of Ash's backpack had slipped off, the three eyeing it as it made contact into the grass. Lynn gasped, the same item that Rockruff dug up from the beach this morning belonged to Len all this time, what are the chances of that!
"M-My locket! Y-You found it Mr. Ash! My locket! I can't believe it! I'm so happily!"
To Lynns confusion on what might Len be going on about, Len shows her the same locket they might've had a bit of history with.
"Look Mrs. Lynn! It's the same locket I've kept all these years! The same one you gave to me when we were kids!"
"You... You seriously kept that all these years...? And never when thrown it away...?"
Len brightly smiled knowing that this particular locket was safe in his hands once again, "I accidentally dropped it on the beach, but I found it!"
Suddenly, Ash found the two having a little bit of a moment on their own, Lynn even beginning to tear up.
"Len... You cheesy nuthead... I-I never kept the once you gave me... Because I thought it was just trash... But you. Len! I'm sorry! I didn't think!"
She throws herself into Len's open arms, the boy once again blushing over the big moment the two were having.
"T-The least I can do is put it on you... One sec..."
She hooks up the small thing around Lens neck, the two blushing made for various of reasons. A trade of indescribable stares, the sun already setting down upon the island, the three headed their own ways back home. Ash wondered if he will ever cross the roads of the appearing wealthy kids Lynn and Len, only time will tell from here!
