Chapter 26: Magics Comet, the Wish that keeps on Wishing!
In the middle of an important day that seemed to spike from the rest of them recently involves the entire gang in the classroom chilling out during their lunch break from a hard day's work of studying, Bob chattered a convincing argument to Sophocles how that anime he's obsessed with at this point is far more superior than Bill Nye the Science Guy, bringing two drastically different tv shows into a questioning comparison. Kiawe and his trusting Turtonator took a breezy nap under a palm tree, Lana and Mallow couldn't help but gossip about an episode of Gilmore Girls they both caught on tv, Lillie and Snowy seemed quiet on the other side as she had to be honest with herself, because the girl didn't like Gilmore Girls, as she spent that afternoon combing Snowy's fur, which became way more soft and luscious than any of the following Pokémon shown. Ash and Saki were usurpingly caught together watching each of their own Litten trading looks, rattling a weak hissing sound, before they gave up and slept under the sun together. Ash blurts something Saki would normally would be annoyed at, which was,
"See that Saki? Our Litten may have a 'little' thing together. If their the opposite gender, than you can guarantee that there'll be a wedding for them both! The bells are ringing and the official organ will be playing them out!"
Ash becomes to sing the royal wedding song everyone at least heard once, right until Saki plugged Ash's ears with a pinch of her fingers, a tired quint coming out from her eye sockets.
"Right... Even if they were in love, leave them in peace. Let them have their moment and especially don't rub anything in."
In all honestly, the thought of her own Litten hanging out with another of its kind seemed to work out okay with herself, that is if Ash's ambitions really to hook the kitty Pokémon up, Saki can start calling Ash her brother-in-law. The bell of the Pokémon school (rung by the professors Komala) echoed around the school, meaning it was time to return to the classroom. Saki picked up Litten and headed out like a normal person. Ash grabbed his Litten like a plush doll and walked too.
"Lunch is over already? Dang it, looks like my gummy candy will have too wait..."
Bob sighed holding a gummy root beer in his hand while Rowlet seemed to be pulling it out, mistaking it for a Bug Type Pokémon while violently chewing the candy.
Everyone reported back into the classroom just before the 2nd bell which would normally mean the warning or even the tardy notification, but everyone did make it before it could even chime. The professor stood in front of the chalkboard laughing along another man who shouldn't have an introduction just to be recognized, the Kahuna himself Hala.
"Last year was certainly worth something to remember for! I cannot wait just what to expect from this year, newcomers and old ones alike!"
"You sure are correct sir, I myself am eager just how my students will approach this years special night!"
The new kids Ash, Bob nor Saki had any clue what these men classified as "this year" or so, perhaps referring to something that was apparently annual and approaching short noticed. The rest of the class weren't too distant, but again, the men could be talking about something else, but returned to their seats, their small Pokémon climbed on top of the desks, awaiting for the two to wrap up their conversation.
"Alola children! Excuse me for the long chatter. Now I bet some of you know that something special is to come not in the day, but when the night approaches!"
Already pumped for the blossoming excitement of the Alolan adventure, Bob couldn't help to prevent his squeamish grasp onto his seat and blurt low something with little chances of happening.
"Batman has invited us to his birthday!?"
Looking like a Mankey with a life supply of berries and fruit, Bob sat down and melted halfway of his seat, until Rowlet straightened his back with firm jabs from the beak. Sophocles can only dream of the invitation of one of many superheroes from the DC Universe to be invited for a party within the Batcave, but took a gander at a guess with a hint of logic behind it.
"Oh yeah... You don't happen to be talking about the comet that is supposed to be tonight right?"
He speaks while taking a peep at Lillie, who traded a similar look back, this is so because they both have shared several books resulting about that same comet through an encyclopedia and even in several children books.
"That is absolutely correct Sophocles. For the ones who are not aware of this beautiful artifact, ancient historians in this very region have passed on stories over the years about a fragment that passes through only the eyes of Alola can only witness!"
Ash and Bob were already bought on the whole refresher of this ancient traditional night, already showing their appetite for adventure, which Saki didn't have zero interest, but it didn't sound like a big deal.
"Flying space rocks. Now your gonna tell us something special about them, right?"
She throws the plotting question at Kukui, which he nods, but steps back rather than answering because Hala has decided he wanted to answer that question.
"Why yes Saki. I would be happy to
add of the secret truth about this comet that not many I would say, truly believes in."
Everyone leaned in now even more curious what this secret could lie within.
"Secret of the comet?"
Lana asked, which a sudden itch comes from the back of her head, foreshadowing a strange vibe that sounds like would make a line on the officially dubbed anime, until Bob scratched it for her, scaring it away from Bob's un-officialness.
"While many do believe this comet is something that more to meet the eye, this comet is a magical piece of history. One that has the power to grant wishes."
Everyone including Saki gasped to hear that this comet has the power to actually grants wishes.
"That same comet grants wishes??"
Mallow held Steenee in disbelief, already in the mind of what she could possibly do with this wish, and which it would most likely end up having the funds to open her very own restaurant that she put very little thought into.
"Okay... Now I'm intrigued."
Saki looks up from her desk and even thinks about what could she do if she was to make a wish with that comet. Her motives and desire is unknown, but she could only think of it at best.
"If I may, how do we plan on celebrating this night of this comet?"
Kiawe raised his hand over the murmurs in the classroom.
"Well lads, if you really think the comet with give you it's magical wish, I saw we all have a slumber party on top of Melemele Meadows! Of course, after you get permission from your parents."
Everyone nodded and headed on out right after Kukui has given them the permission to be excused to remind their parents that they were to be supervised overnight to score a chance at that said wish that could easily change their lives in a very positive manner!
Already out on the the dirt trail to Melemele Meadows, Hala had already planned a shortcut through the mountain way not too many people normally took on a daily basis, but with the ticking time and the setting sun, they had to act fast before camp could be settled in.
"I hope you kids bright food to keep you satisfied tonight, I'm afraid the pizza guy isn't trained to climb a hill."
Hala chuckled as he and a few of the children with a sense of humor joined in, which he immediately stopped the fake reaction, stunned to see something blocking the beginning path all the way to the meadows.
"Don't tell me... That's a Snorlax!"
Ash recognized the giant sleeping Pokémon who slumbered after a feast of berries. Standing around to recirculate their plan, there wasn't many choices to be made, so they had no other choice, but to go around.
"If it goes now, the sun will be down. Come on, if you all please."
Just before they left the scene, someone who also had the same motivations as the entire group walked with an entire travel bag of gear and what looks to be several musical instruments along with him, stared at the snoring Snorlax, and cleared his throat.
"Well. No Pokémon will come between me and my night above Melemele."
Ash couldn't help but watch the man plop his bag onto the ground, and take out his guitar, like many self-aware musicians tuned their tools of music before actually playing any notes.
"I think he's gonna try to make up Snorlax."
Mallow and Steenee both took a closer look, while everyone finally stood still at the man, but even before he could play a single note, he waved a small hand to the group.
"Howdy folks. You all just here for a hike or for the big event tonight?"
Pretty open right there, they all couldn't help but to notice his idea on attempting the big Pokémon up with a song, or even if a guitar would be any good.
"That is correct sir, we are on our way too, but this Snorlax is blocking our way."
"I hate to break it sir, but if you were to play just a regular guitar upon a Snorlax, chances of it waking up and happily moving is a pretty slim chance."
Sophocles rubbed his chin, while everyone remained steady of what this man yet to introduce himself and pulling out an iconic flute.
"Course I know that, but does that mean I can't practice any guitar while playing a Pokéflute to wake it up? If you didn't know, I'm a man for the love and talent for music. There's nothing in this world that's comprehending than Lady Music herself... So charming and elegant..."
Already lost in his own worlds, Kukui could understand what this new face was tapping about.
"I know how you feel sir. Back when I was your kid's age, I was actually all about karaoke whenever I had time off from researching Pokémon."
The man chuckled, even remembering singing some of the most iconic of songs in certain places like "September" and "Papa's Got" Oooooooooooold hits.
"Huh, sounds intriguing. Who knows how to play the doohickey?"
Saki steps forward to ask if the man was to play it by himself or needed an extra hand or two. No one had said a word which meant that none of the characters present could even play a musical instrument, which at least until Lillie walked up, a slim pink blush in her face, everyone surprised she had an idea how to play the thing.
"I-I I'll play the Pokéflute mister... Just for a few minutes..."
"Thank you so much for helping us out back their!"
Lana and Popplio smiled at the man, who was already dazzled by the scent of curry coming out of his own bowl. Just like anyone with a love for anything edible, the man fell in love with Mallow's recipe, but that's not such a big surprise.
"Geez guys, I don't really know how to thank any of you for this incredible meal... I haven't eaten this well for a while."
He shovels food down his pipes, faster than the average kid with their own plates.
"No worries, sir. Helping us out with Snorlax was more than enough help for one night. But I don't ever believe we met. What might your name be?"
The man quickly darted his eyes away to the side of the ocean, avoiding any eye contact that could be made in front of the children nor adults, which raised a few questions.
"Everything alright, sir?"
"I... Rather not share my name as strange as that might sound... Its kind of a long story."
The man looks down into his bowl of rice with a 1/4 of curry platter on top.
"If it's that tremendous, we won't force you to share anything that makes you uncomfortable."
Kiawe lightly smiled to let the man know that he has absolutely nothing to worry about. The man smiled and looked upon the sky and chuckled to himself.
"Ever since I was just a little boy, I had a love for grapes, those little purple oval shaped delights. My dad would take me out to the beach at this time of night for stargazing. We both would share a baggie of grapes and even pretend that those stars above are just grapes ready to be picked from the bush."
Mallow sunk into a deep loving blush, relating to the man's love for the fruit.
"You're telling me. I could just get lost in a fruit salad and live off from that... Knowing I could bloom into a healthy young lady..."
Now moving onto curry to salad, Bob scratched his back while Rowlet pecked his head for any ticks.
"You're already pretty and looking good so I wouldn't worry about you."
Mallow smiled taking the boy's compliment, but unfortunately takes a miscommunication from Lana and fixed a fake smile.
"She sure is Bob, let's move onto something else! So how long have you been into music?"
The man answers the question as if he would be talking to himself in the mirror, in a less psychotic way possible.
"Why I've loved and learn music ever since I moved from the Kalos Region! I used to play at stand-up nights at a few local places, until I was given the opportunity to travel the world! Make millions off doing the one thing I loved... Making music..."
Ash suddenly blinked his eyes as he didn't know why this man isn't off playing the next biggest hit that could put an end his economic worries for good.
"So, what happened with that opportunity?"
Again, he answered the question pretty quickly before he moved on.
"It may sound skirmish just saying this out loud, but... My wife left me... My baby, my sugar, my honey... My everything left me. She was my rock, until she passed away from a terrible stage accident. Her beautiful voice and personality fueled my inspiration for song writing... Without her, my sinking of my career off the gate was inevitable..."
Already a few of the characters had droopy faces for a person facing the reality of losing someone, but overall was something to feel sorry about.
"I couldn't face Kalos like this, so I moved to the Alola with everything I had, hoping my song writing spirit guide finds me once again."
He looks up upon himself in hope to find the magical comet that just might turn his life upside down, until everyone on the hillside looked up all night, in search for the comet. Each and any mistaken artifact in the sky still made the feeling to wish within themselves in case if the comment was the real deal. This comet could divide itself for everyone getting their own wish to come true, maybe it could even only work for one person. Everyone dozed off before 11pm as the morning sun shines through.
"Gooooooooood morning..."
Hala picked himself up from his position and stretched his arms outside of the sleeping bag. Everyone remained asleep, except the man who had the talent for music.
"Perhaps he had plans in the afternoon. Can't let him be stopped."
One by one, everyone woke up and enjoyed a hearty breakfast not on the hillside, but down in Hau'Oli city with a lucky day off to rest of the hill jitters. Everyone returned home and relaxed off the early morning trip back, in curious thought if one of them luckily caught the comet, that could really benefit their lives with a wish that came true.
