Chapter 16: The Tale of Two Tapus!
"Hum ma dum dum~... If only they make corn chips the way they used too... Oh? Oh! My bad! Heheh! I didn't see you kids come through that door! Please, please sit down and rest those barking feet!"
"Welcome children! Welcome back for another chapter of this'ere story we tell you'tol. We'll get started with this story before you could even ask!"
"Now, you may just be asking' "Who's this here old chapper yapping about a kids cartoon story?" You may call me Claymond Kennedy. Just a retired man who've served his purpose feeding the people threw my delicious golden corn here on Melemele Island!"
"I've always loved this island not just for the beauty, but those who inhabit it. Many many Pokémon came and go as they please, but there's one Pokémon that's older than you, I, and that tan fellow Hala. What I'm talking about is the guardian itself, Tapu Koko."
"The premise of this here historical moving sensation keeps the people and Pokémon safe from any harm or outside threats. Whenever a child is in need of saving from harmful vermin. Whenever anyone slips the cracks of a steep trail, Tapu Koko is a good soul, great at its job. Yes sir, it's the great thing we all come to love here on Melemele."
"Throughout the corners of time, I hear many many people think of Tapu Koko to play games with young whippersnappers, saying that it's a tricky people to go around, or even tests a trainers skill through clever puzzles. But I always thought of it just like you and me, human. But I know a thing or two that would make you scratch your head in thought, something that'll make you think twice about this hero in yellow."
"Come children, gather around for a story about Melemele Island's deity, Tapu Koko, the rather playful spirit."
This tale of the heroic deity known as Tapu Koko stands upon the tallest building of Hau'Oli city under the Alolan moon. The Pokémon had an appearance that certainly comes from a tropical setting such as Melemele island. Each of its arm carries a large shield that was divided into two halves, when enclosed, the Pokémon would resemble a cackling bird.
"Kokokokoko..." It speaks to itself, watching the city lights and cars move from street to street, and even watched some bird Pokémon who would normally pass asleep at the current hour. Not too many people were out for obvious reasons, but a boy and his dad walked on the quiet beach, watching the waves swish onto the sand, licking an ice cream cone.
"Thanks for taking me out for ice cream dad! Mom wouldn't have ever thought about that especially this hour!"
The little boy licks his waffle cone of Rocky Road as his dad pats his son on the back.
"No worries son, think of it as an aware for your grades at the Pokémon school."
His dad smiles, but accidentally trips over what appears to be a large lump of sand, which startles the boy. Plopping itself open from another spot (right in front of this dad's head) a small Pokémon with an eyesore stare named Sandyhast makes angry commotion for interrupting its slumber.
"Blah! Blah!! Sann sann sannns!"
Calling its friends for back up, many many more Sandygasts appear right from under their feet, they all start making a ruckus, getting the attention of a few people too. Nothing too serious was going... That was until five of those Sandygasts swallow the man right into the ground, the man struggled and panicked for air, the boy desperately wanted to make a move. Which was too late when an even larger Pokémon appeared right from the ground, a sand castle, twice as big, Palossand roars at the kid. He desperately wanted to escaped, but the sand beneath his feet kept him from going anywhere, he was immobilized! The kid began streaming tears as he knew his life was already at a halt, Palossand prepared a Shadow Ball to finish him and his dad off, but right before it could make its mark, Tapu Koko leaps in faster than any Pokémon on Melemele and reflects the move right back. The force was even strong enough to push back the grip of the small sandy Pokémon, causing them to back up.
"KOKOOOOOOO!!"
It's might roar outdoes any of the Sandygast's and Palossand's combined. The guardian and the large Pokémon traded looks, knowing that it was a force to be reckoned with, all the sandy Pokémon relocated themselves leaving the boy and his dad alone, getting a'round of applause from all the witnesses and the victims of the trope.
"That... That was so cool!... Th-thank you so much!... But... Who are you?..."
The boy asked the Pokémon, while it It looked beyond sand on two beach and into the direction where another island could be resting across the sea. It was expecting something, a friend of its, looking back at the boy before it flew off into the moonlight.
"That Pokémon is called Tapu Koko son, not just any ordinary one too..."
Another pat on the back, the boy couldn't help but wonder where this Pokémon is heading to away from Melemele. Tapu Koko heads a little higher into the sky more than it needs to, but soon descends back onto an acceptable altitude, it lands on a small hill of sand between Melemele Island and another that this story will soon return too.
The small land wasn't even considered an island, but did have a large slab of stone that stuck in the middle, with a smooth surface on it. Looking around, no other lifeforms were detected, Tapu Koko heard only the sound of swishing waves, for a second, the Pokémon spoke to itself, until hearing the cry of another Pokémon, just as defining and mystical as the Pokémon itself. From afar, glittering scales trailed the Pokémon that approached it, resembling several details of Tapu Koko.
Which was approached face to face with another Island Deity, Tapu Lele.
"Leeiii! Leeeii!"
The pink spirit floats glittering more of its scales, happy to see its dear friend after a pause in their relationship of keeping each of their own island and its people under control of the harm that refused to show its face. Tapu Lele takes something right out of its shell it sometimes rests inside of and takes out a small, but smooth stone with a pink flower on it. The pink spirit eagerly shows what it has brought to the other Pokémon, as it made gift in exchange for its friends generosity.
"Kokokokokoko!"
Tapu Koko rises itself into the sky, gesturing Lele to take it along to Melemele for a visit, which happily takes the offer as it flies right beside the yellow spirit. The joyful Pokémon zoomed and swifts across the night sky, joyful cries of the two Pokémon brought smiles to those who remained awake at the hour and even compared them as, "Alola's sweet laughter..."
The two landed right within a field of yellow flowers within Melemele Meadows, where Pokémon that are faun of the golden nectar consume as much as they can handle. Just like adults in a wine tasting festival. Cutieflys and Caterpie happily hum under the moonlight, Tapu Lele sprinkling its scales all around, loosing any ambitions out of the resting Pokémon including Tapu Koko itself.
"Leiii! Leeiii!"
Tapu Lele draws in a crowd through its delightful mood, bringing new Pokémon into the flowers, such as Petilil and Metapod. Tapu Koko picks a yellow flower while it's friend seems caught up in the attention of the small Pokémon, takes a smooth rock and places the flower right on top of it. It floats to Tapu Lele, showing the identical gift to it.
"Kokoooo...?"
"Leeii! Lei lei lei!"
The reaction was quite welcomed as the pink spirit loves the simple, but traditional design of the stone and flower. Before anyone noticed, Tapu Lele hovers into the and takes off, leaving a giggling echo. The Pokémon shows that it wants to play with the island's Deity, taking a tour around the island while at it. Taking the invitation for a swing, Tapu Koko floats right up and enjoys a ride with it's good friend, hearing a noise which the two Pokémon giggle in the air.
"Koo-lei! Koo-lei! Koo-lei!"
In the same neighborhood of Sophocles' home, the little nerd stays up pass his bedtime with the light turned off in his room, tightening the loose telescope that is used for star gazing with the weak nightlight and his desk lamp the only thing that isn't blinding him in the scary dark.
Togademaru couldn't help but noticed why Sophocles isn't in bed sleeping and what's gotten him so laser focused passed his sleeping schedule. Something was up, the boy was looking forward passed his baggy eyes and sat on top of his mind.
"Now you may be thinking why I'm up at... 10:49pm with my upgraded telescope Togademaru, the reason why I'm up this late is because I know for that tonight out of millions and millions of years that all the planets in our galaxy will aline themselves and something badass will happen! Trust..."
Sophocles whispers to make sure he doesn't wake up his folks while they get their own shut eye, while yawning himself to get some sleep, but his head stays up while he adjusts the telescope outside of his window and looks through the clear starry sky that people like you and me would kill to see in a paradise like Alola. After searching around his reaching the planets, he spots two figures of the end of his eye, and relocates the telescope.
"What in the world?..."
Finally tailing them right where he could follow, Sophocles was actually caught in aww of the two Tapus to be flying together in a rare manner, and brightens up, even showing Togademaru what he just witnessed. Soon enough, the two were satisfied for that night, seeing two Tapus in one spot is quite rare than the average person who don't live in Alola.
"If only I could've taken a photo from here... But it all happened so fast... I wonder if the others would believe me about what we saw Togademaru... Only one way to find out... Wait until tomorrow... For nowzz..."
Dozing off those nasty bags away, Sophocles and Togademaru slept peacefully for the night, at 10:49pm.
After several laps around Melemele Island soaring through the beautiful night sky, Tapu Koko eases off of its own nerves and laughs along side Tapu Lele, who hit a wall and was forced to land in the back garden of a familiar mansion, taking safe breaths before it could pass out. It wasn't the type of hero to push its own limits such as iconic superheroes. Tapu Koko however wasn't phased, and lands right besides the Pokémon to make sure it was in good shape.
"Kokooo?"
"Leiii... Leeei leii?"
The pink Pokémon floats around the pretty garden, passing right through and entering an empty playground, the Pokémon even sits upon a swing set, curious of its adjusted seat. Seeing this play set before, Tapu Koko pulls back on the handle and gives a small push to set it in motion. Finding quick joy out of that light swing, Tapu Lele giggles and approves of the swing set. The two giggled as they continued to play on the swing set, not even considered to quiet themselves as others within the mansion are trying to slumber.
Within the building, Lillie's newborn Pokémon Snowy wakes right up after hearing the interruption of its own slumber with its sharp hearing and had to see what was just going on outside.
"Koooooo...?"
Curious of the mystical figures outside, Snowy slips right out of the room, making the cutest little thumps. Haven't quite gotten used to walking yet. Twitching ears and wagging tail, Snowy peeked right at the two, waiting to be noticed by the Island guardians.
"Kooooo!"
Without any ambitions or sensitivity of violence, Snowy couldn't help but trade looks of innocence with its newborn sky blue eyes, wondering just what were these two beings.
"Leiiiiiiiii!"
Rising from the seat and floating right in front of the fox Pokémon, the two trade some greetings, circle around each other like curious sniffing dogs, the two played a little bit of chase right until Snowy tumbles into the dirt. But was instantly picked up right from it by Tapu Koko. Snowy was instantly recovered in the little scratch from impact by the magical scales of Tapu Lele, a happy sound comes from the small Pokémon before a worried voice calls out.
"Snowy?... Snowy! W-where are you!! Snowyyyy!"
A super anxious Lillie comes out in her pajamas with a lightly cracked voice upon tears of worry in her eyes, until she sees he Pokémon coddled up in Melemele islands guardian, she knew that the Pokémon was safe from harm.
"Oh Snowy! You had me worried sick! Please don't ever do that!"
She wraps her hands around Snowy, like a mother to her child, even if the Pokémon creeped around the corner for a second, she was lightly tearing up.
"I... I wouldn't know how I would punish myself if I lost you... Thank you Tapu Koko..."
The orange spirit nods to her to insure her that everything was okay. Tapu Lele's method went an extra mile by wiping away a tear in under eye, which lightly surprises her to see two Tapu's in one setting (exactly like Sophocles). Excusing themselves, the Pokémon take back into the skies before Lillie could do anything else, which she returns inside and tucks Snowy right back to bed, going to sleep herself.
Tapu Koko and Lele both returned back to the small lump of ground between the two islands, knowing that it was about time for the pink spirit to return back into its own shrine to slumber.
"Leii! Leiiii."
But before the Pokémon went, it hugs Tapu Koko, thanking it for a wonderful night it was able to share with it. Lastly, places it's stone with a pink flower right onto the smooth rock before it went back home.
"Kokokokoooo!"
It chirps while setting its own stone with the yellow flower on it before it also return back to rest. The two Pokémon traded looks before they zoomed back home, and before you know it, the two slumbered before midnight.
"There ya have it kids. Not only Tapu Koko is a mighty and kind hearted hero, but it's also a friend... A friend who takes the time and the effort to step out of its comfort zone with the help of those who care for her... It's the love of friends and mates that's all around. Which isn't always kissy kissy but I think you know a think or two or Ash's journey with his own friends... Something that Tapu Koko and that kid have in common... They've seen it all and have a story or two to tell... With friends to share their own experiences to the newest generation. They all might not be listening, but for those who would like to take apart of do. Come be apart of these adventures and have fun making those same adventures with your own friends, as of I, I have several mouths to feed... I'm Claymond Kennedy, and hopefully I'll see you another time with a tale or two, and for now, goodbye!"
"P.S. Heheh, Expect friendships to go to the next level, as the kids would say things in the likes of... But please do take care!"
