Chapter 12: Electric Vs. Dragon! A Scaly new Rival!
Out of the Pokémon School at least a half hour ago, Ash and Mallow took the same trail that lead to Hau'Oli city's park, to enjoy the afternoon breeze with a refreshing drink. Mallow isn't as talkative as she normally is because she is still down after the whole scene of Saki literally punching another girl after she had insulted her. She didn't know how to respond after such an unexpected violet action.
"Mallow?... Nothing bad happened between you and Saki on your girls day out, did it?"
Ash breaks the silence, definitely aware of the girls low lifting mood because of dear Bounsweet hitting out that she isn't well, but honestly, it didn't have too.
"No Ash. It didn't,"
She finally speaks, she didn't have it in herself to lie, so she came clean, Ash and Rotomdex stop in motion to pay attention to Mallows conflict.
"I, I'm sorry about that. After seeing her the way she's been lately... I think we should give her some space."
Ash puts a hand on her shoulder to know that he's in full attention to her, as she looks up and lightly smiles.
"What helpzz a friend makezz a friend happy! Thatzz the true way of a Pokémon trainer!"
Rotomdex nods and floats a little higher in the air, Mallow hugs Ash for his kind words which eased her from the beginning. Finally reaching the park, not many people could be seen on the actual playground, but there was a boy and his Pokémon in the sand. Which they appear to be exercising to the brim of their bones.
"Come on! Full power! One, two three four! One, two, three, four!"
The boy shouts with sweat dripping from his face with extreme exhaustion. His push ups began to weaken, his Pokémon attempted to move a rock twice its side with his head, but currently fails to do so.
"Talk about dedication..."
Ash, Rotomdex and the Pokémon stared at the efforts this kid was putting into, which Mallow find quite appealing.
"I dunno... I like boys who work out..."
A tiny blush rises, while Ash and Bounsweet gave her a sweatdrop, despite the boy plopping his head into the sand with his behind sticking up. That was when Ash decided to have a word with the boy, he hoped he could lend him a hand.
"Excuse me. You kinda look unmotivated,"
Ash approaches, but was immediately cut from his words as the boy zipped up on his feet.
"Me? Me?! Me me, as in me right? No! No no no no!"
The boy shudders words on top of words to cover up the complete fact that he isn't have a good time with the fact that he isn't getting the best of workouts.
"I was just... You know... Um, I was just pumping the ol'guns, you know... A little exercise a day keeps the thinning bones away..."
The boy trails, who couldn't help but pat the Pokémon Cosplay Scales that were strapped onto his jacket's arms. Mallow couldn't help but sparkle her eyes to hear that boy's her age legitimately work out. Her heart build up the courage to ask,
"Can-Can I see your arms please?..."
That. That right there cracks the boy, who came out clean. A long sign was just followed up, that his arms, aren't anything spectacular.
"You honestly wouldn't want to see them... There as thin as Japanese noodles..."
Whatever that sat in Mallow's blush flushed right away as she looked away and puffed in disappointment, but that didn't help for the now blushing boy mistaking her look as judgment.
"Wh-what's it to you?? I'll have you know I have a condition where I was born with thin bones in my arms! Which explains my skinny life-"
The boy bursts in embarrassment, but Ash calmed him down until he was finally able to catch his breath. The boy apologizes for the way he bursts out, and asked if they could sit down at a nearby coffee stand to introduce themselves. Ash and Mallow greeted themselves to this new face along with their Pokémon, which really soothed the boy's tensions.
"My name is Scales! Sorry about what u said earlier... I'm just... Having a even off-er day than usual right now."
Scales sighs as he took a sip out his beverage, and continues his story.
"My birthday took place about a month ago, which is in fact the year that I, will become a Pokémon trainer!"
Scales stood from the booth seat, as Ash and Mallow brighten up to Scales getting his wish granted.
"Sounds awesome Scales! I know how you feel about that!"
"Thanks Ash! Anyways, what I wanted for my birthday was a Dragon-Type Pokémon as my first one to battle with! On that day! My parents have given me an egg that contained a Pokémon that's exclusive in the Alola Region!"
Scales picked up the Pokémon that belonged to him right when Pikachu and Bounsweet were just getting along with it. The boy sits there, staring at his own Pokémon, making that smile as if it was only yesterday it hatched out of the egg. A newborn.
"Ta-da! I present you Jangmo-o!"
With a bright smile, Scales held his Pokémon as if a little girl would present her doll to her friends, which Ash, being one of the little girls friends, had an instant interest at the new Pokémon.
"Thatzz a Pokémon you don't see too often in Melemele island! Allow me to record itzzz data my system!"
Rotom swoops in and downloads some information of the Pokémon, and displays its data on the following dragon Pokémon.
"Jangmo-o, the Scaly Pokémon, a Dragon Type. Jangmo-o livezz up in the mountains and valleys to avoid human beingzz. It growzz after each and every battle it winzz!"
Right after the registering of the new Pokémon, Mallow couldn't help but ask about the egg raising that Scales nurtured it through the day it hatched.
"Our friend Lillie is currently is currently raising an egg over her own vision! We were kinda hoping you could give us some advice for her?"
Scales sparkled a blush from the way back of his cheek as he smiled,
"W-Well! First thing to do is to... uhh... Really just sit down with it and really talk to it about your day... The newborn needs to know who exactly is it under the care of, and that's the best way to do so!..."
What was a small spark turns into a big blush as Scales sounds like on of those teachers in parent classes. But he did have a point, but Ash nor Mallow wouldn't get behind the fact Lillie wouldn't dare remove the incubator in which the egg is kept inside off.
"Well... The thing is... Lillie isn't the most bravest person out there..."
Mallow sweatdrops, hoping Scales would get the word that Lillie hasn't really bonded through the egg in a friendly way, which was totally okay.
"That's nothing to fear really, it's totally natural. If-if you don't mind... Where may I see this Lillie so I could share my egg hatching experience?..."
Ash gave it a thought, thinking Lillie was in her room, keeping the egg out of harms way, a Baseball bat right next to her door incase an intruder invades and steals the egg, but she's too sweet to do that.
"If you'd like, maybe I can talk to her to see if she'd like to hang out!"
Mallow smilies, which Scales was on board to ask this girl. But Ash had a goal of Scales could do that could catch two bird Pokémon with one Pokéball.
"For the meantime Scales, how would you like to have us as your first match?"
That made the boy leap out of his seat, more jittery than what the sugary beverage was currently doing, he accepts as the boy's head out to the beach, while Mallow headed out for Lillie's place to retrieve the girl.
On the beachfront, Ash and Scales prepared themselves for their battle. Ash was as he is, but Scales was twice as pumped. His very first battle, he could barely hold the excitement within.
"Hey Scales! Just remember this! If you're ever in doubt in a match, don't forget to remain calm and keep your head up!"
Ash steps back, Pikachu in front of him ready for battle. With Scales battle spirit sinking in, he felt like a boxer about to go up against his first match ever. Jangmo-o too stepped in front, trading looks back at Ash and his partner. The setting was warm, the sand was soft.
"The battle between Ash and Scalezzz iz about to begin! Good luck to both of you!"
Rotom referees as Scales first match was finally on his way after all the waiting he patiently endured. Ash was kind enough to offer the first move to him, which he starts in a decent manner.
"No holding back Ash! Here comes the power of the Dragon Type! Use Dragon Claw!"
Dashing across the sand, a light green colored aura flared Jangmo-o's claws which were ready to attack. Ash wasn't even gonna let this slide. Over years of battling, Ash was all set on his next move.
"Okay buddy, use Quick Attack!"
And within that, the moves collide, but with Pikachu's experience and strength, it overpowers Jangmo-o sending it back right back to its trainer. The boy panics, but tried to resume the way he is like Ash advises. Stomping his foot, he makes his next move.
"New plan! New plan!... Lets go for a Dragon Tail!"
Now the energy flowing through its Tail, the Pokémon leaps into the air for an extraordinary attack, but Ash didn't even flinch for one second.
"Iron Tail!"
Once again, Pikachu counters with its own move involving its tail and slams its opponent right back into the ground. Jangmo-o hardly stood back onto its feet with the damage it took, but it's spirit aided it to go on. Scales was too surprised to see the Pokémon and its willpower, if it wasn't giving up like that, Scales won't.
"Lets go Jangmo-o, I know you can it! Use Headbutt!"
"Electro Ball!"
Either Pokémon backed down, Pikachu fires the attack,
Jangmo-o resumed charging right through and makes contact with Ash's attack. But something was off, instead of damaging the Pokémon, it had no effect and was even able to land its own move right on Pikachu.
Both trainers were surprised to see Jangmo-o's resistance against the Electro Ball, but it all made sense right after Rotomdex freaked out at the sudden clash against the dragon scales of Jangmo-o.
"Incredible! That's the first time I ever zeenJangmo-o's ability in battle! Bulletproof! Thatzz when a Pokémon gains a complete immunity on all ball and bomb attacks!"
Amazed at the Pokémons ability, Scales bloomed with happiness to see the unexpected turn on the table in the battle. He saw an opportunity to that might just lead him to victory, but knew he had to be quick about it.
"Cmon Jangmo-o! The battle isn't over yet! Use Work Up!"
The Pokémon leaps in energizing movements to increase its attacking power, but proved pointless after as finishes the battle with a Thunderbolt. The battle was over as Scales' own Pokémon couldn't go on after such damage. The trainer immediately slumps to the ground and tussles his own hair in stress and thrives to himself.
"Oh what's the use?! I'll never become a Pokémon trainer at this point!"
He wallows, but Ash immediately stops him from talking anything else about him.
"Scales! Scales! That's no way to talk about yourself! It was your first battle!"
He eases the trainer off, who was still clearly upset, but soothes after getting a light pat on his back.
"There's always room for improvement... You were great out there. Don't let yourself and your doubts get into your dream like that!"
Ash stood up as Scales takes his hand to get back on his feet and take a nice reliving breath to really shake off the bad thoughts that first lingered inside his mind.
"Ash is right! That was a fantastic for a first battle!"
Mallow claps encouragingly to lift the boy up even higher, as Lillie stood by her with the egg inside the incubator.
"Scales. I would like to introduce you to Lillie. A sweet and smart young lady who loves Pokémon! But umm... She can't necessary touch them..."
Scales gave Lillie a nice long stare until he walked up to her and nods.
"Lillie, it's nice to meet you. Ash and Mallow filled me in on the egg you've been raising. From someone who was afraid of raising a Pokémon from scratch... I could relate."
Scales sat straight down to the sand, gesturing Lillie to do the same thing. Which she did, being followed by Ash, Mallow, and the Pokémon around them. The four sat in a small group, the sound of yelping Wingulls and the waves splashing could be heard. Scales took off his large jacket, and wrapped it into a spherical position. He wasn't kidding when he said he was born with thin bones in his arms. They really show. Ash and Mallow looked at each other in surprise, as Lillie couldn't help but tilt her head on what he might be up too.
"If you don't mind Lillie, may I see how the egg might be currently doing right now?..."
No doubt Lillie hesitated to do what the boy asked, but she was curious to hear how can he help her with her egg before it hatched, so she carefully opened the case incubator, which contain the following egg. Gently putting a hand on the delicate object, Scales could definitely feel something moving.
"Oh! Goodness... This Pokémon is soon close to hatch! Jangmo-o has done the same thing! I know of it!"
That made Ash and Mallow eager to hear. A new Pokémon was about to become part of the class in no time, but Lillie had a lighter tone and lightly smiles.
"Thank you so much Scales, may-may I-"
Lillie wished to asked to return the incubator closed to secure the egg, but he boy wasn't done. He had another exercise planed for her.
"No no, I'm not finished. The Pokémon needs to know that it's not alone, it needs to know that it's caretaker is there for it this very second. It needs its parenting love."
Lillie, being the jelly bean she is, again hesitates to lay a hand on the slightly moving egg, didn't want to disturb it from anything. But it wasn't until the soft hand of Scales aided her to be brave.
"No need to be afraid Lillie. It needs to be let out of its closed doors and to be held, it needs love Lillie. It needs you."
The words of encouragement hits her like an arrow to the heart, those words attempted to tear her up. She was entangled to keep the egg from harm by locking it up inside its incubator, but that doesn't mean it was truly happy, unless its trainer was really there to begin with. Together, Lillie placed her hand on the egg, she could feel the movements of the Pokémon, she felt something poking the palm of her hand throw the inside of the shell of the egg. At first surprising, Lillie actually enjoyed the experience of making direct contact.
"That's too sweet... Sooooo sweet you two..."
Mallow tears up, Scales making a decent point about the safety and the joy the egg had through the journey before it hatched. Lillie smiled brightly at Scales, who smiles back with a tiny blush letting go of her hand, Ash had to spoil it while singing an obnoxious song.
"Scales and Lillie! Sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-"
But was slapped by Bounsweet to stop singing, which Mallow let slide because it was a beautiful moment for everyone. Everyone split ways, Lillie returning home an hour later, lays her hand on the shell of the egg, letting the Pokémon know, not just its owner, but her friend was there for it.
