Paperwork

Kamado slowly stepped forward, peering over my shoulder at the stack of neat, freshly completed documents. "...You filled out the entire requisition ledger. And corrected... the formatting."

I cleared my throat again and offered a sheepish smile. "I also filed the overdue reports for the Obsidian Fieldlands. And cross-referenced the Pokédex updates for the last three survey teams."

Cyllene's eyes narrowed. "At four in the morning?"

"I couldn't sleep," I mumbled. "So I thought... maybe if I helped, you'd... not be mad that I snuck out last night to catch a Spiritomb. For research."

Kamado's mustache twitched. "You caught what?"

"I didn't mean to!" I said quickly. "But the whispers were getting louder, and the final wisps were just—right there, and then I—"

"You chased down a dangerous ghost-type alone. At night." Cyllene's voice was flat.

"...With my Dewott," I added weakly.

Kamado exhaled deeply and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Mia. You just saved Hisui from Giratina. You do not need to prove anything to us by risking your life for Spiritomb entries. Or paperwork."

Cyllene raised a hand. "Speak for yourself. The ledger was disgraceful before she touched it."

"...Thank you, Captain," I said, not sure if that was a compliment.

Kamado gave me a long look before sighing again. "Go to bed, Mia. Now."

"But I already alphabetized—"

"Now."

I stood up stiffly, quill still in hand. "...I can't promise I'll fall asleep."

"You will if I have to assign Zisu to stand watch outside your room."

I nearly ran.
