Part 95. Team Love's Arrest
The very next morning after Mr. Fuji had allowed our group to stay at the Pokémon House. The morning sun had peaked through the northern windows of his cabin and filtering in the hopeful day that we would continue our grand adventure onward. Despite this light of hope, we still had some unfinished business.
It wasn't helpful to leave both evil team members under Mr. Fuji's household if we could help it, we needed to ensure that Blue was ready to awake before Interpol arrived to take them captive and today was the day that Team Rocket and Team Love would be arrested.
I arose to the sound of tires screeching and a Diesel engine humming outside of the cabin home, Jigglypuff along with the rest of the Pikachu awoke after hearing such an aggressive stop.
Blue and Penny also awoke from the sound, their eye sockets darkened after taking such a long sleep. Their much-needed rest was such a necessity for healing their wounds that their bodies all took a huge toll, and I couldn't help but feel sorry after observing them try to regain their strength from that awful battle.
Once the unknown vehicle had arrived, there was a knock on the door.
"I'll answer that, you all wait here." Assured Mr. Fuji as he pulled along his mustache.
The man paced himself forward toward the door and noticed the silhouette of a man wearing a peak cap. Mr. Fuji then opened the door and revealed a man in complete uniform. Dark blue in appearance and had on militaristic, black boots and white gloves. He seemed to be wearing a badge that signified his district's coverage of the international organization at large. The man was tall and seemed rather wise based on his wrinkled skin along his hazel eyes.
"Mr. Fuji is it?"
"Ugh, yes?"
"My apologies for us having been late on the pickup. Have they been much of a threat?"
"Not at all, you've actually arrived on time. They've been unconscious ever since I called you earlier." Smiled the old man with delight.
"Perfect, I brought personnel with me just in case we need to restrain them further." Gestured the old man to the two individuals behind him.
There was another officer who was about the same height as him with blond hair and a bit of a handlebar mustache and a girl with the same type of hair color as mine, light auburn except this individual to his left wore a skirt with dark-colored heels.
"Please come in," gestured the old man for each of them to enter.
"Thank you, you are too kind." Said the older officer with a tip of his hat.
After filing into the room, the officers noticed the three individuals that they needed to apprehend almost immediately. They observed the individual's logos on the outside of their outfits and were almost surprised.
"Lieutenant Surge, a member of the Triad." Remarked the female officer with a shock across her façade.
"And the Apostles of Team Love, one of them seems to be awake." Said the older individual who approached the Apostle right next to Blue, still occupying her sleeping bag with a nervous look on her face.
"What is your name?" Inquired the officer, who appeared to be one of rank to the grunts before him.
"P-penny Whisp."
"Are you a member of the thirteen?" He inquired.
The girl nodded after his interrogation, she knew there was nowhere for her to go, and now that they were able to verify her. They would be able to use that information for the Interpol to assure her detainment in prison.
"You are wanted by the Interpol for stealing Pokémon from other Trainer's as well as, battery, assault, and other such charges which will be included before your day in court. You'll be coming with us."
"What's the point, they'll just let me go." Answered the girl.
"I doubt it, what could compel you to lose bail? Your bounty is quite high along with members of Team Rocket."
"My family are aristocrats they live in Kalos."
"Kalos region, huh? No surprise here, it seems the origin of the Love organization is quite well written in the history books along with your family name. Tell me girl, why did you join such a decrepit organization, especially one that experiments on Pokémon's energy?"
The girl looked down toward the floor in shame and for a time didn't say anything to him. However, the senior officer's prying eye did not flee from her gaze.
"Th-they were former followers of the organization. They told me that my place was here with Team Love and that if they were going to ensure that I would get the Pokémon that I wanted, they would let me go."
"So much for caring about Pokémon in their motto, you guys want to unleash their true potential yet, you continue to steal and traffic them. What kind of Pokémon connoisseur does that?"
"It's just business for my parents."
"You won't be let go because they have some unfinished business?"
The girl nodded and looked back up toward the officer.
"What is that unfinished business?"
There was a pause and tears swiftly fell along her face, she couldn't even utter the words that she needed to say, but for her sake, I intervened.
"They are gonna destroy Kanto..." I answered to the attention of the senior officer.
The man turned to face me with scrutiny, he wasn't sure exactly who would know outside of the Apostles to be able to answer that question.
"Kanto is going to be destroyed?... That is quite the bold claim coming from a girl like you." He inspected with a curious tilt of his head. "And you are?" He inquired.
"Leaf Green of Pallet Town."
"Leaf, huh?" He queried with the stroke of the chin.
"And you know this how?"
"Violet, my Haunter who was Jack's Pokémon previously had granted me a vision of its destruction, I am also one of its former members."
The man continued to stroke his chin with deep interest, another Apostle within Fuji's household? That certainly couldn't have been coincidental, how could I have been a member of its rank when I am no longer a member? It certainly seemed like a thought that he was trying to wrap his head around.
"I see and you are one of its former members?"
I nodded in immediate answer to his question.
"I had been kidnapped and brainwashed as a member. They were planning on using several members like me who had been stolen from households to try and commit crime. I was one of those children held under their brainwashed contraptions."
"The MK device? Green... Green, ah, wait, you are Autumn Green's daughter?" Inquired the senior officer with correct assumption.
I nodded once more in answer to his questions.
"That explains your upfront on this information, a conspiracy to destroy a region makes a lot of sense with the legendary Pokémon he has in his possession. I thank you young lady for letting me know about their true intentions. I certainly met your father during his excursions but I never thought I would run into one of their former members." He continued after his attention was set on the girl in front of him.
"Now Penny, I have one final question, what is that Pokémon you're searching for? Maybe we can try and negotiate demands on your behalf. They are not gonna let you go so easily, so if you cooperate. I can make arrangements to ensure you obtain it. I'd hate to apprehend a young girl like you under these types of conditions because I believe you don't deserve to be in a cell." He smiled with genuine patience awaiting any response from her that would arise.
Penny bowed her head even further into shame; she didn't want to be the one responsible for ratting out her kind, especially her leader.
"It-It's the Meowth; I already have her. Although, I didn't want to take her from her trainer initially. She was abandoned by him and I could tell that her heart was saddened from not seeing him again." She said as carefully as she could, holding back her tears as the guilt quieted her voice.
The senior officer had heard enough of the confession and reached down and grabbed hold of both her wrists with one hand and pulled out the metal cuffs with the other; he quickly looped them around her limbs and locked them into place.
"Wait-but-you-said-that?"
"You had no intention of leaving, especially when you had acquired the Pokémon you desired, the one that was stolen from the Day Care?"
This information that this officer received caused her to shutter in apprehension. She was shocked to know that he was onto her lie.
"I've read your file Miss Penny. The Whisp's have a reputation for causing trouble everywhere they go, especially in your home region of Kalos. We have no choice, we will be taking you and Jack into custody."
Just as soon as Penny was arrested, the senior officer gestured for the other two officers to move upon the two suspects to be cuffed. Jack being held with one arm by the young blond male officer, he moved the young boy first toward the door, while the female officer grabbed the heavy Lieutenant, and hoisted him up. Dragging his legs across the wooden floorboard and out the door.
While the senior officer pulled his cuffs up to make sure Penny was at attention. He pulled her swiftly forward toward the exit and the girl looked back, crying toward my friend.
"Blue, I-I am so sorry. Please forgive me." She apologized with a sob.
The boy eyed her in silence as she was the last member that sauntered along the pace of the senior officer toward the exit of the Cabin. Her robe had somehow caught hold of the metal hinge of the door and ripped from the aggressive push from the officer.
After the tear the cloth gracefully fell toward the ground.
All of us, especially Mr. Fuji were surprised by the scene and we each stepped our way out of the front door to observe the commotion further. After I had gotten clear of the crowd, a riot van situated several feet in front of the Cabin driveway. This van had a white and blue decal on the outside. The form was a box in shape and had two-step doors in the back that the two officers had placed the suspects within the large cargo space.
Two rectangular ports showed the two Apostles looking out from each side of the cargo hold. The one who seemed more upset was Penny, but Jack looked out toward me through the further right port of the van with a furrowed look.
"Make sure you confiscate their Poké Balls." He commanded to his private officers with undue haste.
"Yessir! They obeyed with a bow as they each took their bags toward the front end of the transport's cabin. After each of them opened the front doors, they all filed toward the front passenger side of the vehicle and slammed the doors shut.
"Thank you very much for your assistance on the matter Doctor Fuji, we'll be paying you a handsome reward for your efforts." Smiled the senior officer who was already in the driver's seat.
Doctor?... I thought with a furrowed query. So he is someone with prominence.
"It is these trainers you should be sending that money to." He said while pointing toward us near the door of the Cabin. "After all, they were the ones that rescued me at the top of the tower while the Lieutenant held me hostage and rescued Cubone from being taken."
"Duly noted, we'll wire the funds directly to you so that you can disperse them accordingly. Thank you very much for your time and for your report Miss Green." He said with a wide smile.
I nodded toward them both while tipping my hat up back to him. I waved back with gratitude for making sure that justice was served. However, after turning toward Blue; he didn't seem too enthused. In fact, he appeared to be filled with deep somber thoughts.
The boy held Penny's brown robe around his hands, ripped, torn. Analyzing the rips and the dark logo of the diamond embroidered within the cloth.
The van's ignition started and the senior officer engaged the gear into drive and pressed his foot upon the gas pedal. With the engine churning with a roar, the tires gently squealed down the road toward Route Seven, disappearing over the hill beyond the horizon as we all watched the van vanish from our perspective.
"She seemed to regret taking that Meowth," I said while looking down at the same cloth that Blue held in his hands.
"She's still a criminal and despite her helping me with what I've experienced within that tower. This symbol will be used against them." He promised with a glare.
Blue had no intention of wanting rehabilitation for these individuals. Penny was the one person that had taken his Pokémon away from him, the same person that was being held within his hands, there had to be a way to prolong their efforts after all the damage she had caused.
"I am not going with you guys for a while..."
"Wait, why?"
"Don't follow me." He scowled as he made his way along the rugged trail toward the same Route the transporter entered.
"Wait!" I shouted to my best friend, who didn't seem to be slowing down at any chance I pleaded.
"I said wait!"
He then stopped and turned back toward me with a rather annoyed look on his face.
"What the hell is this? Didn't I tell you guys that I don't want you to follow me?"
"I know you want to go, but, I want to apologize to you. I'm sorry that I couldn't make it when you lost Raticate..."
He held his gaze with those emerald, green eyes of his. He understood that in my distress I had reacted to try and protect those that I cared about, but he was the one that told me to stay put while he took the initiative and he was aware that it wasn't me that should be saying sorry.
"I am the one that should be apologizing to you Leaf. I couldn't rescue your Haunter in time." He said with regret while gripping hold of the cloth. Unfurling it over his shoulders all while tying it in place. "If I had been strong enough I wouldn't have failed in procuring them. Penny told me that I wasn't strong enough because my Pokémon and I weren't in sync. However, I am not going to make that same mistake again. These two organizations are gonna pay for what they have done—"
"But if you come with us, we'll help you."
"You can't just leave when we know they are both just as dangerous." Pleaded Yellow who was standing along with Misty and Brock. "They'll get you and your Pokémon hurt again!"
The boy shook his head once more, smirking from that ridiculous warning of his.
"You are just like Red, always getting in my way. Don't you battle me either, I'm not in the mood for a fight against you two." He threatened as he trudged along the trail, pulling up the hood over his head, concealing his true fate. The same robe that once belonged to the Diamond of Three now enshrouded his intention to end them.
"I am going to liberate all Pokémon from them both under her name. Leaf, Red....... Smell yeah later!"
"................" Furrowed Red as he watched his rival resign himself to the horizon of the morning sun.
Once he departed, we were left rather bewildered, upset. I felt responsible for what Blue had become. The Professor had entrusted me with the promise that I would be able to help Blue reverse course. Now I was uncertain about whether or not I would be able to convince him at all. His path had now completely diverged and now he was going to take on these organizations all by himself. If we agitated him further in Pokémon battle he would only retaliate.
"Blue! Don't you DARE forget about who your Pokémon are! They are the reason that you will bring about your true strength! REMEMBER!" I shouted in desperation to the small blip that seemed to disappear over the hill. Not ever knowing if he had even heard my plea and now that I had painted my point in the juncture, it felt like it was all a waste, like a part of us had been gone. It was probably the most depressing moment we had all felt. Blue had decided all on his own to do what he wanted and we couldn't stop him.
Professor, please forgive me, I had failed at my promise.
With all of these failures on my belt, I certainly felt responsible for his inaction, like it had taken a part of my soul. All of my responsibilities and effort's toward my one true goal, and it felt like I threw it all in the trash-bin. Though all I could look back on was the moment when Red had confirmed to me the feelings that I knew deep inside were real and the experiences I had were no coincidence.
Pokémon and people can work to accomplish goals if they continue to understand one another and work together. If there was a rift or a disconnect, I knew all too well the consequences of those rifts. I just hoped that Blue would be able to see it from our point of view, but only time would prove otherwise.
