Part 9. The Anecdote Of Amirillo
Pokémon come in all shapes and sizes. Many of them have different types, and some even have varying degrees of cuteness. Yellow's Pokémon were no exception.
Pikachu one of the most loyal of his Pokémon follows him around constantly wherever he goes. Then there was Doduo; his dual headed ostrich like Pokémon. Whose round and brown fluffy shapes of his heads and body, stood out among his elongated and penetrable legs.
However, I've always been curious as to why. His Pokémon always stuck together with him. As we were walking together through the thick dark forest. I didn't want to be annoying about how I would ask him. But I couldn't help but phrase the question to him.
"Hey Yellow I've always wondered? Why are your Pokémon always out of their Poké Ball's?"
Yellow turned to me in a look of confusion. Like no one has ever asked him that question before.
"Well, why is your Bulbasaur always out of his Poké Ball?" He asked.
Touché. I thought with embarrassment
To my surprise, I never thought of any particular reason as to why. I just always assumed it would be a good idea to have the Pokémon tag along as exercise.
"Well, I didn't want to feel alone in the woods so I feel a lot more safer with my Pokémon walking along with me," I answered.
"That's a valid answer, well the main reason I have them outside of their Poké Ball's is because they don't like being inside of them."
My eyes widened from his response.
No wonder, catching them in these devices must be really uncomfortable for them. Especially since their encased in a cramped environment. Because of this you may have a bit of a harder time bonding with them.
"Pokémon don't like to be locked in a cage for so long. They would rather like to run free. That's what they tell me every day. PokéBall's are designed for training in mind, but in my eyes they don't offer anything except the feeling of claustrophobia to them."
I looked down at my other Poké Ball's lined long my bag. Spearow, Lucy and Bulbasaur's empty capsule. It really got me thinking.
He's probably right, these Pokémon deserve to be under the home and care of a Trainer but what other purpose does a Poké Ball serve instead of being used to catching with one?
Sure I needed to capture Pokémon in order to record for the Pokédex in the name of research. But how scared and how terrifying must it be for Pokémon to not know who their Trainer is? Especially if they just keep them in this digital ball for so long?
I bowed my head in shame, wondering if what I was doing was the right thing.
"Hey Yellow?"
"Yes?" He responded.
"Do you disapprove of me and how I handle my Pokémon?"
Yellow was taken aback from my question. How can I say such things when I knew what I felt in my heart was right? The boy shook his head from my shameful question.
"If I had known you were hurting your Pokémon they would tell me. Since I met you on Route One. I've watched you battle in self defense against a Spearow. Because of your vulnerability in facing your greatest fear, you placed your love and trust to your Pokémon. Bulbasaur knew you were struggling."
He knew exactly what happened when I encountered Spearow? Has Yellow been watching me the whole time? But then again he's right.
Bulbasaur would not have trusted me back then had I not allowed him to help me.
"When I watched your Pokémon battle against the legendary Ho-Oh, I witnessed all the effort he took to protect a Trainer like you."
That is true, I have a fear of birds.
My eyes glistening from the moonlight as I came to the sudden realization.
Bulbasaur tried to protect me because I believed in him. That belief gave him the thrill. The energy to move forward...
So that was why Pokémon battling was so important. When the stakes are high, the bond between your Pokémon and the Trainer grows stronger.
With this realization in mind I turned to observe my little Bulbasaur as he was walking ahead of me. Bulbasaur nodded as if he approved of Yellow's answer.
"Bulbas!" He squealed.
This creature who protected me from outside forces. Did all he could to safeguard me, even though he wasn't well trained; he made me smile. The more I think about him, the more I started to love him.
"We all bond differently with our Pokémon Leaf. Don't take my opinions as something that you should adopt. Each Trainer even handles their Pokémon differently." He said.
"However if you want to build their trust every once in a while. Give it a try, take them out of your Poké Ball's. You will see a difference in the way they behave and act towards you everyday."
I nodded in agreement, smiling within myself Yellow was speaking the truth. After pondering on all the answers I received I decided it was best to release Spearow and Lucy from their PokéBall's.
"C'mon out you two!" I shouted while tossing them respectively out of the ground.
The two Poké Ball's spun towards the ground as I threw them. Opening up and releasing their particles to materialize from each throw.
Spearow flung from the ground and started to fly towards me. As I tried my best not to panic wincing from the approach. The Pokémon Perched his talons on my left shoulder.
Spearow let out a loud noise to spark my attention.
"Kaw!"
"Haha! Guess I'm not scared of you anymore now am I?" I gulped as I tickled his beak nervously.
"You are rather cute hahaha!" I chuckled as the tan and red little bird couldn't help but gently peck his little beak against my cheek.
Yellow watched as I played with my Pokémon. Smiling towards me with warmth in his heart.
"And you," I gestured to my little Pokémon Lucy.
She fluttered her wings gracefully and started to squeak happily from my swift gesture.
"C'mere you!"
Butterfree was the third member I caught. She had approached me carefully. Eying me curiously with those round ruby compounds. She was the cutest Pokémon I had ever come to own.
"Come stand on my shoulder Lucy!"
The Pokémon swiftly circled my body and landed on my shoulder. Her wings skittering softly along my long brown hair. Doing her best to not nibble on my hat. She sunk behind my skin and her cupped hands along the blade of my shoulder.
My heart melted from cuteness! I couldn't believe how wonderful and elegant she was.
"Let's stop for now and set up camp," shouted Yellow ahead of me.
Oh that's right!
I almost forgot how late it was, being preoccupied with my Pokémon. It was better for us to make sure we were prepared to arrive in Pewter City the next day. Since we were only a fifteen miles within the forest.
According to the Town Map. We were halfway out. But we still had a long hike to go.
Red and Blue are said to be there. Though I'm not sure if they had already left? Or if we made any headway to where they were going?
"Coming," I shouted back prancing to Yellow's position. I grabbed hold of the blanket from my bag and set them down beside Yellow. While he pulled out a wool blanket from his bag. We grabbed hold of our blue and green sleeping bags to start hunkering down for the night.
For the first time since I left Pallet Town. The night sky was so clear from above the tree-line. You could see all the constellations of the Stars. No light pollution, just nature all around us.
Crickets were singing their lovely night tune. And the full moon on the horizon was nice and bright.
Though my Pokémon were ready and willing to sleep. I couldn't sleep, there was so many thoughts going through my head.
Team.. Rocket.
Team Rocket?
Oh that's right Team Rocket, I've been meaning to ask Yellow about the team he is trying to track down.
"Hey Yellow?" I asked.
"Hmm?" He responded with ears perked. Trying his best to stay awake.
"Who is Team Rocket?" I asked curiously.
The boy sat up silently, watching the sky as if pondering on thoughts he was not prepared to answer about before. He seemed rather serious about this question after I had formed it.
"Team Rocket is an organization that steals Pokémon for personal gain."
I then sat up to listen intently.
He does not sound thrilled talking about this group at all. Furrowing my brow I wanted to know more.
"Did this group take something from you?" I asked.
"No, I'm looking for someone in the group."
"Who is he," I asked intently.
"His name is Giovanni," he said.
"Giovanni?"
I scooted my sleeping bag closer to him, intent on listening to his story.
"Do you know this man?"
"No, and quite frankly he doesn't know me. Giovanni is a man that lived in the same town as me. Viridian City as they claim is the town of many colors. Many gifted people and Pokémon Trainers come from it. I've heard rumors that Giovanni is a member of this group and that he has the same powers as me."
Oh my god! A man like him must be extremely dangerous if he has Yellow's similarities and characteristics.
"This man can read the thoughts and feelings of Pokémon like I can."
"Can he manipulate Pokémon to his side if he has those powers?" I asked.
"Yes," he affirmed.
"There is also a Pokémon that I sense is in complete distress. It's calling me for help."
"What Pokémon might that be?" I wondered.
"I don't know, he's not a Pokémon that is known from this region. However he's in the clutches of Team Rocket. He's encased somewhere in a lab and wants to become free."
"I'm so sorry. Do you feel the pain of his cries everyday?"
Yellow started to shake and shiver vigorously. I could tell he could still sense the cries of the Pokémon in question. Eating and baring away at his soul.
"Everyday," he winced.
Kk-kch! Yes he is saying, free me, free me, FREE ME! And I can't do anything about it. Every day I feel guilt, the pain and cries of this Pokémon held under their care is unbearable. I want to free him!" He sobbed with tears streaming down his flushed cheeks.
"That is why I've left on this journey with you," he responded somberly.
This Team Rocket group already sound like an awful gang.
The pain this boy feels, I can tell he truly wants to help this Pokémon. My heart sank deep for his cries. Yellow covered his face with his pillow to avoid the embarrassment. However I knew how he felt.
I vowed that evening that if he would help me to become a better Pokémon Trainer and stop LOVE. Then I would vow to help him free that Pokémon from Team Rocket at all costs.
