Part 78. Buried Alive
The creature that billowed from the pit, was the beast that looked humanoid in form. Spider-crawling across the pile of dead bones that seemed to be perched atop multiple corpses. Those eager, red eyes peered into Blue's soul. Inching his spider-arched legs towards him with a curious tilt and intent to end his life.
Blue had no idea what he was getting into, the fear that enveloped his throat. I could only imagine that he was the one feeling the dread of this cursed place peering into him from the depths. His hands pale, his frame shaking from the dread. All Blue could do was attack and weather this monster's unrelenting assault. Being an obstacle that was placed between him and the Apostle was the morbid creature coming towards him and if he didn't provide ample time to attack soon. This cursed place would be able to envelop him within an eternal nightmare.
"Kadabra! Psybeam again!"
The psychic, anthropomorphic cat nodded and lifted his spoon. Aiming the utensil like a sight down the barrel of a gun while lifting his left palm behind it. Kadabra used it to amplify the sequence of his vibration. These pulsing waves bore down upon the creature and he struggled to approach the trainer with a loud hiss.
"Don't let up on your move Kadabra! Cast him out!"
The cat's eyes glowed with a fuchsia shine and the creature nodded again to continue the vibrational attack. The lonely, humanoid creature was pushed back from it, but he didn't let up on his movements. He needed to reach Blue to ensnare him in a bite.
"Penny, what is this thing!?"
"You're asking me? Heck if I know what it is. All I know is that it's a Pokémon."
She was right, this Pokémon could use attacks and had a typing to it. Seeing as it was taking the attacks of the Psychic-type and receiving damage. One would assume that it was a Pokémon that was not seen by the current Kanto PokéDex given to us by Professor Oak. Only way to know for sure was for his grandson to test that theory. In his head, it appeared to be a good idea to know his opponent.
Blue had raised the Pokédex directly toward the creature and the infrared scan was able to pick up on flesh and a heat signature. However, the device read it as an unidentified form with a question mark appearing in the middle of the device's screen. Whatever it was, it was a ghost Pokémon of sorts. But this Ghoulish monster didn't give up or relent after Kadabra's most impressive attack. Unlike The Hand that Blue encountered. This zombified mass raised his two hands into the air and shouted this phrase.
"I'm so lonely!"
The pile of bones that emerged from the graves had started to shake and some of the limbs out of that useable pile had lifted from off the surface. The creature used this move to try and throw multiple projectiles towards Blue's Pokémon.
"Kadabra, avoid as many of them as you can!"
Kadabra maneuvered swiftly around the bones himself, but it wasn't enough speed as several clubs had flung themselves against Kadabra's abdomen and arms. Quickly immobilizing him above ground.
"Kadabra, Kadabra get up!"
He slowly tried to regain movement after the painful bouts of heavy bones he received from the creature. Eyeing him carefully as the being glided across the cold concrete floor. Kadabra let out a small cry and used his hand to try and center his power toward the spoon. The vibrational energy had lifted both Blue and Kadabra into the air to try and avoid the incoming abomination on all fours.
The creature howled and screeched at them both. He thought he would be able to catch them midflight but he was unable to reach in for his meal.
"There is no escape." Screamed the many disembodied voices out of this abomination's mouth.
"There is for me." Said Blue with a furrowed brow as he raised his hand for another move that could push the being even further to his spiritual origins.
"Confusion, Kadabra."
His Pokémon used a different hand sign with his left palm. Raising just his two fingers before the silver spoon. The vibrational energy was sporadic than the calm and direct frequency of his other attack and he bore down on the creature. Nailing him against the ground as the mysterious energy compounded one after the other.
"Do not let up Kadabra!"
The move continued to confuse the poor creature as his many legions of voices cried out from the move's terrifying ring. The creature could hear what amounted to many church bells ringing in the distance. This was all because Kadabra had used his spoon as a tuning fork to try and confuse him further into annihilation. During this powerful exchange his movements were being pushed back to the massive graveyard that he appeared from before.
"Please! Don't leave me!"
"I don't ever want to see an ugly face like yours again!" Vociferated Blue with disdain.
"Confusion again! Push it back!"
The pulsating rings of invisible energy that was being emitted from Kadabra's utensil continued to oscillate with incredible power, like an ominous wind that had no origin from within the Tower. Kadabra had utilized his status condition to his advantage and the creature continued to howl and gnash his teeth from the invisible reverberation. The sound of the utensil, confounding his mind.
"You will face the consequences for having got in my way. You will be buried alive from where you came!" Called out Blue with the most determined look within his eyes.
The corpse reversed course from atop the bones of all that was once dead and swiftly crawled back into the hole. Kadabra's attack had relented after the utensil bent to the side.
Then came the unnerving silence. There was this feeling that he described as nothing but a quiet hum from the aftershock of the move. It had left everything hushed until the point Blue and Kadabra gently landed back onto the rough concrete floor.
Raticate, the first Pokémon Blue had released. Reunited behind his trainer's leg and snickered with evil laughter as he was overjoyed that his fellow Trainer had completely overcome the grotesque creature from hell.
That was going to be short-lived, as disembodied hands and arms started appearing on the bottom of the floor grabbing hold of his Pokémon. Due to this swift reaction, they all seemed to be in battle-ready stances for another attack. Unaware that the creature's association with the other ghost's that occupied the room had assisted the humanoid monster on command.
Blue quickly reacted and grabbed hold of Raticate's capsule and flung it to retreat him from within in attempt to avoid the first ghoul's hand. The sad reality was that Kadabra's body was becoming tired as the second hand that clasped hold of Kadabra's leg. Absorbed the poor Pokémon's energy that the hand finally let go. Allowing Blue's Pokémon to collapse to the ground with little energy left.
"Kadabra!"
"Typical, you had two Pokémon and you didn't think to protect them both at the same time." She said while shaking her head with disapproval.
Kadabra had been defeated but he still had three Pokémon left. The battle was far from over and she never understood that fact.
"You fail to see why Pokémon are useful when they are needed, Penny. Already I just proved to you that you don't see that my Pokémon were at risk from the beginning."
"That's exactly your problem, you keep thinking that one over the other will be the winning technique. But you overlook the other Pokémon you have in your arsenal. If you continue to play favorites, your Pokémon's potential is limited. You're not finished yet, far from it." Affirmed the Diamond of three to the poor boy situated between the grotesque hands that were releasing the deformity from below the earth after Blue once again.
My friend pulled out his starter and flung the Pokémon out onto the field with a loud clack.
"Wartor!"
"Wartortle, Water Gun!" Decreed his trainer with a pointed gesture toward the beast while his ball retreated back into his other palm.
The shellfish Pokémon arched his legs in a forward position and built-up pressure from the water that accumulated toward the throat. This pressure was exerted with a powerful spout at the targeted creature and the move appeared to be super effective while it seared across the corpse's rotting flesh.
"Aaaaaaaaaaagghhhh!!" Shuddered the humanoid abhorrence from the move.
"No way!" Raised Penny. "Water-type moves are effective against this ghost?"
"If normal type attacks are not going to hit against a ghost Penny. Then I might as well experiment, turns out this move will do just fine." He smirked with confidence.
The contorting creature moved and jolted about; his red eyes glowing with bright fury as its ghostly energy around him started to glow blue from off his seared skin. Raising his arms toward the sky. The creature allowed some of the bones from the pile beneath him to float in a rather circular pattern. Some of these limbs protected the zombie while others shot directly toward Wartortle.
The clubs of bones that continued to land hit after hit, struck not only Wartortle's shell but pulverized his exposed limbs like his stubby hands and feet.
"Hold steady, Wartortle!"
Blue's starter was pushed back from the brunt of that move and it seemed like the corpse was putting up more of a fight this time.
"Wartortle, Bubble attack!"
As more of this buildup continued through Wartortle's throat, the shellfish belched out bubbles that streamed toward the corpse. The hellish creature put up more bones to try and defend himself but most of the bubbles exploded. Exposing the demon's rotting flesh as another flurry from that offensive stream punctured his defenses.
"No!" Squealed Penny in defeat.
The bubbles exploded even more, piercing and burning the creature's skin. The water emitted from those explosive bubbles belabored the creature and his flesh continued to melt from off his bones.
"Please, don't, I am lonely. All I want is love."
"You are in my way." Shook Blue's head in a defiant gaze.
As the final bubble burst from Wartortle's torrential bubble attack. It eviscerated the creature's head and his skin dissolved from off his skull. With his power dissipated, all that was left was a skeleton of a human that had once been on this earth many years ago.
From dust it were and unto dust was it's corporeal form returned to the earth. The many spirit's of it's frame leaving behind their own insecurities back down into the pit. They had failed to eat him from where he stood.
Once the room fell into a murmur and the orbs that long past housed the power of this ghoul. All vanished without a trace and my friend had finally defeated the creature. Advancing himself further toward the staircase of the third floor of the Tower.
Upon arrival, Blue then approached a wide-open space in the middle of a square that was bordered by a line of tombstones. This strange, blue, glowing pattern had caught his attention and he noticed that Penny was right in front of him.
He could observe detail; her crystalized hair pattern and her smile gazing from behind the cloak of her brown hoodie. Prominently displaying the blue, diamond shape that etched in front of her abdomen along with her outfit. Her facial tattoo of a heart underneath her right eye was the most distracting feature of all.
"You were trying to test me, weren't you? I guess it was no accident that I had run into the ghosts. You lead me to them on purpose and stalled for time." Established Blue who eyed his opponent in front of him with distaste. The boy paced his foot onto the mystical blue pattern below and somehow could feel a surge of energy flowing through him. Almost like his exhausted self had departed from his mortal frame.
"Quite observant of you." Furrowed the girl. "You haven't proven to me that you can take care of your Pokémon and every time I have to remind you, you continue to disgust me. So I lured you in to try and test the level of loyalty that your Pokémon has. You may have defeated them Blue, but if your Pokémon were not healed before you entered the sanctuary they would not be able to defeat me at their expected potential." She said while clasping hold of her Poké Ball with a patient stare. Releasing the Meowth from out of the capsule; her most prized Pokémon had formed for a battle as a taunting gesture toward Blue. It was the very first Pokémon we had sought to procure and the Meowth was only eager to fight on her behalf.
The boy furrowed back at her again with regret in his eyes and pulled out his Raticate from his toss. The Pokémon appeared again and eyed his opponent thoroughly. Raticate's angular optics sneering down the cat Pokémon she had so arrogantly displayed before the sanctuary's light.
"You don't seem to understand why I am here. Get out of my way. My friend's Pokémon is more important than your examination." He raised as his emerald eyes glowed from the blue hue of the cryptic pattern on the floor.
"And that is why you will lose tonight's battle Blue. Your Pokémon are mine, they do not deserve to be in your possession. Not after the way you continue to mistreat them in favor of someone you love."
This battle that was already testing Blue's patience. Gastly was missing and Lieutenant Surge was already within Pokémon Tower. This test of loyalty toward a Trainer's Pokémon was going to become more difficult as my friend progressed through the Tower. There was, however, something more horrifying that had overshadowed him.
The curse of the dead and the Mother of All Souls who was calmly observing above the ceiling of the third floor with a fiery gaze that seemed to pierce the veil of the living. Awaiting the results between both trainers as each were about to tip the scales in favor of the dead.
With precious time being wasted, Blue had to defeat his next obstacle if he was ever going to move forward as a Pokémon Trainer. The Diamond of Three, the Apostle of Team Love was his next triumph.
