Part 37. The Blue Journey
Serendipity had filled the void of my empty heart. I couldn't help but contemplate the warmth that I was feeling this very moment. Being in the presence of my friends as Red, Yellow and I traveled very far through a portion of the region away from Cerulean City. It felt like heaven on Earth, the hills and valley's that went to and fro toward the massive skyline ahead, made me feel serene and content about my life.
Being away from outer space was difficult of an experience because of the light being less of an exposure on the moon. Earth was not so bad with the warmth permeating my face and tanning my light skin. That and the fact I finally got to reunite with the Red was the greatest feeling ever in my life. I can't tell you how much they mean to me. They have been with me on my journey through most of it, it made me feel secure, made me feel happy.
The winding road had pointed me to my dreams. My eyes couldn't help but place their sights towards a sense of hope and adventure as the sun glimmered over the skyline. A place known to many within the region as Vermilion City. A seaport well known for its lack of pollution compared to other cities along the coastline. We all glimpsed at the site on a long windy dirt trek known as Route five.
I could literally live in this valley it's so peaceful. I thought to myself intently.
There was so much hiking and traveling that needed to be done of course, there was no reason to back down, we had a mission to locate Team Rocket and figure out if they were causing more cretinous crimes. However, my stomach was nearly killing me with hunger after all this walking, but despite my hunger pangs none of that mattered now. This moment with almost everyone on the trail was blissful.
My young friend Yellow cheerfully swiveled his pack, back and forth to jostle his pole into position. Entertaining his Pikachu by allowing her to paw at the Poké Ball dangling above the brim of his hat. The petite, yellow mouse loved to lay in his massive oversized straw cradle.
Red's Pikachu was happily resting on top of his stylized red ball cap. Snoring with the cutest noise imaginable.
As for my Pokémon, Clefairy had finally warmed up to me after my intense training with Gym Leader Misty. Who proved to be one of my most powerful trainers I've ever went up against.
Clifford followed alongside me with his short stubby toes, staying embedded into his game console that I leant to him from within my pack. The Game Boy Color was a very popular device within our region, that my Clefairy clearly was enthralled within playing on the blue device to pass the time.
This cabin looked to be about two stories. With an expanded wooden fence and what I observed, was a thicket of tree's and bushes. It also seemed to have a number of Pokémon in the yard. So we veered off the path along the grass to get a better look at the creatures. There were many of which I had never seen before.
"Hey Red, do you know many of the Pokémon that are in that Cabin's yard?" I Inquired.
He nodded with a warm cheerful smile. "I've caught all of the Pokémon you see out there."
We both stopped short with a gasp, looking at him with complete stupefaction.
"You've gotta be joking!?" Shouted me and Yellow in unison.
".........."
The not so humble Red, shirked his shoulders and nodded to reconfirm our doubts.
"How many Pokémon have you caught?
"I've caught over thirty different kinds—
"Over thirty?!"
At this early in the stage, I was just as surprised as Yellow. How the heck did he have me beat, especially since my Pokédex was my dream to help Professor Oak reach it near completion?
I cannot believe it, Red has me won by a long shot!
"Hey, how were you able to catch so many different Pokémon, you are already one third of the way finished with it!?"
"..........."
The boy held his composure, and kicked a stone alongside the grassy knoll before us.
"There are things that you learn as you go. When you guys were on the Moon, I began to learn a thing or two about how the Pokédex works."
My attention to his story drew me in with intent curiosity.
Was there supposed to be a method on how to catch that many?
Professor Oak did mention during the time that I visited with him. That there are at least one hundred and fifty Pokémon to document within this region. I had to wonder, was it really that possible to find all of them, even when they are hidden so well within their known habitats? I wanted to understand a bit more by what Red was saying.
"What are some of those things you must do to catch them?"
The boy turned about face, abruptly screened my attention. He gazed upon my circular blue eyes and smiled from within.
"The way to record the Dex at a fast rate is to evolve certain basic Pokémon that you've caught in the wild."
"You mean—
"You have to evolve them first?"
My friend nodded in kind.
"Precisely."
"Not all Pokémon are going to be caught conveniently on your journey, even when you are busy. There's no way to tell if you'll get the rarest catch in the wild. The best way to catch them and record them digitally is to evolve certain basic Pokémon."
What Red said made sense. I've noticed that the Dex had already recorded Ivy's data as soon as he evolved into the Pokémon he currently is today at his stage.
"What's another alternative?" Inquired Yellow with a peculiar quirk.
Red pulled along the straps of his bag with pride, grinning widely he proclaimed.
"Trades."
"Trades?!" We both shouted in unison.
"You mean we can trade Pokémon amongst ourselves and gather results!?" I gasped with amazement.
"That's the idea, the problem is not catching every single one. Sure, the idea is noble of being able to catch all one hundred and fifty Pokémon. The point is to obtain results with efficiency."
"That explains why the Professor needs to analyze the DNA of all Pokémon. Once they are inside their Poké Balls. They are scanned and sent as data directly to your devices."
Yellow was correct in that thorough assessment. There was a reason Pokémon were to be caught in such powerful devices. These Poké Balls we have were created for the sole purpose of being able to catch 'em all.
I can actually trade Pokémon so that my Dex aligns just as equally with Red's.
"Can I trade you Red?! We'll trade back—
"You're not going to get far with Pokédex hunting, not without a little strength...."
That voice...
I know that voice..
My heart pounded with fervor, this boys voice was everything I had been wanting to reunite for. I turned to face him with an excited and jovial smile. I knew who this person was just as soon as he mentioned Pokédex. He sounded just like his grandfather Professor Oak, only with a touch of squeak along his tenor pitch. This was my long lost childhood friend along with Red that I've been searching for all this time.
Professor Oaks grandson!
"Blue!"
There was no mistaking it, the boy had long spiky brown hair with sharp narrow brown eyes. He had on long dark cut boots with dark blue pants and a long lavender shirt that stretched towards his knees. He had on a blue colored pendulum necklace and right behind him was a brown menacing looking rat Pokémon known as Raticate; who was about half his height.
The boy placed his finger under his nose and began rubbing across the rim of his lips modestly. Chuckling as he had just discovered our entire group towards Route five.
"Long time, no see Leaf Green... I see you're with this loser?" He cackled at Red with lackluster humor.
"............."
I was happy to have finally met Blue for once after a long weeks journey throughout Kanto. I could tell he was grown up. But, after turning to face back at Red's sullen countenance, it seemed that Red wasn't as amused to be in Blue's presence as I was.
Like he was sad, in a way.
