Part 31. Haunebu's Failure
Time seemed to slow at a unique pace. No surprise as time is relative and it does not matter when it comes to space travel. Nonetheless, it was nice to be sheltered inside this massive saucer that took us before we even knew the reason's as to why.
This craft seemed to have been created with help by the Clefairy. They seemed to be rather unique themselves as they had the ability to travel to and from Earth.
We seemed to be flying comfortably, not tumbling or spinning in a strange angle we were coasting in a straight line. Yet with the power of this zero energy. We were able to bend the fabric of space while being shielded from the elements.
Its quite quaint that these intelligent creatures, especially the one I caught at the time. Have shown a unique form of intelligence than we humans could've possibly dreamed of.
After carefully watching through the porthole. I was pretty sure we were getting close to coming home. The Earth's mass was getting increasingly bigger by the second.
We are about to reach the event horizon.
I watched as Yellow carefully climbed his way up to the command deck. Then looked back at Solress.
The professor was laying on the floor five feet across from me. It sure looked like he was unconscious. Like we were traveling for at least three days but that man was down for who knows how long?
The Clefairy themselves were tending to his wounds. Providing a gauze wrap around his broken chest. During our Pokemon battle; he had experienced a rather painful injury.
But who could blame him? You run the risk of getting injured yourself during an intense duel like we both experienced. You are bound to get injured one way or another. I never pitied him though; he was after all, my enemy.
Up on the second floor of the deck; I could hear Yellow's small footsteps clamoring along the steel surface.
I decided I better follow him up toward the same position. If he is going up towards the command deck. I wanted to get a good look from where we were going to land. If Red was still on Route three we could probably make our way back to that area and catch up with him.
But where to land? Was the real question.
Climbing up to the brig where we were held captive. The holographic command module that I used to hack the doors open was flashing a bright red light in the middle. It didn't make a sound. I however, had to wonder if it was possible that Team Love had utilized the Clefairy to assemble this craft? Would they have placed a tracking device from within?
It would not surprise me in the least what Ensign Drake could do in these circumstances.
He had a leash on the affairs of all those who followed him in his organization. So he would not allow them to travel too far off in space to where they couldn't escape his watchful eye.
That drives me insane that even these organizations that have the most technological achievements known to mankind would use it for their selfish gain and not allow it to be in the hands of those who have good intentions.
This was what also irked me the most about Team Rocket. They used Solress and other brilliant minded people on the entire planet to shell out their intellect for resources that could threaten the balance of Pokémon or humankind.
In my mind, they did not deserve my recognition or glory. Those who threaten dominance over these entire regions. Were the ones that needed to be extinguished.
Pokemon are meant to live in harmony with humans and help us to advance ourselves as a species. Not the other way around.
As I climbed up to the third deck. Which were my origins of when I appeared inside. I walked down memory lane as I scrutinized the same old colorful wiring that lined along the umbrella of the craft. Strolling around the saucer's circular hallway with intent curiosity. I had finally arrived towards the area where the pilot occupied to fly the Haunebu manually.
The sliding door had quickly opened as I watched several Clefairy stammer about the room. pressing and holding down many buttons and switches as possible. The hustle and bustle informed from my discernment. Something on the ship was making them increasingly nervous.
"Cleff!" Shouted one on my right.
"Cleffa-Cleff!" Shouted another to my left.
"What's going on Yellow?" I asked.
"The Clefairy are worried about some partial engine failure." He answered emphatically.
"Could it have anything to do with the red light that I was seeing in the brig?"
"Cleff-Cleff!" Shouted the Clefairy on my right as she nodded affirmatively. The same light that I saw at the brig seemed to be pointing out a flaw that was hindering the ships mobility.
"The fusion core in the boiler area that is keeping this thang going, by the look of it. It's about to go on meltdown. It may need to be contained before we can actually enter the atmosphere safely. If the containment field within the fusion core fails. The ship will power off and we'll either be drifting in space for a while or our re-entry outside of Earth's atmosphere will be catastrophic."
That is not good at all, the ships containment field is what is allowing us to travel at a rather comfortable pace and if the ship's core is damaged. We will have a harder time trying to get back home.
Something really makes me wonder if this ship's core going out had something to do with them.
I had no other choice in the matter; I needed to go down to the boiler room and reattach the fusion core.
"Yellow if the core needs to be contained we need be sure it's not in contact with anything physical or we'll have a problem." I shouted.
The strawhat boy nodded in kind.
"I'll remain up here just in case we need to use the controls, it's better that we have a safer re-entry than not." He said.
I nodded in gesture to his plan.
If he follows me down there to help; he'll leave the Clefairy helpless. There is only so much that these tiny creatures can do on their own.
"Yellow, I'll need to borrow one of the Clefairy to the boiler room.
"Would you mind going with her?" He asked the Clefairy seated to my right.
"Cleff!" Nodded the Clefairy as he quickly shuffled his small little stubby legs after me.
I ran as fast as I could down the circular hallway. Sliding swiftly down the ladder. I had made my way down the second floor. Clefairy bounced his way rapidly towards my rear. He looked to be floating with his wings while rebounding in a fun-filled manner. Like a happy basketball squeaking each time he dribbled along.
Hey whatever helps him keep up with my pace.
Dropping down to the final ladder; I noticed the core was slightly melting to the side and the four green edges that kept the core in place were pulsating.
This isn't good.
Luckily, I brought Clefairy down for a reason. He would be able to use his powers to help realign the core in it's place.
"Leaf!" Shouted Yellow faintly through several levels above my head.
"I think we are about too—
Suddenly, the craft shimmered and bobbed. Throwing our center of gravity off balance.
Oh my god! I shouted from within
The ship tossed and turned within the space we occupied. Solress's body and other Clefairy were bouncing about the canopy. Debris from the lockers and other tools were flying about. While scrutinizing from outside one of the portholes of the ship. I detected fire emitting from the ships hull.
Are we about to crash?
I could hear the sharp sound of the ship creak and break from the middle as pieces of the ship shred and ripped asunder between it's diameter.
"Clefairy hold it in place! Metronome!" I shouted desperately.
The Clefairy critically wagged his finger while in midair and a small shield emitted from the tip. Expanding outward as it contacted the structural framing along the wall and ceiling. The Clefairy did his best to use his own shield to hold it in place. But it was not enough, as the ship itself had lost it's main engine with a loud hum. We were too late.
The main shields are down.
There was nothing we could do, we hoped that we would be able to have a smooth landing. With the shields down however, the anti-gravity emitted from the crafts core had ceased it's esoteric protective layer.
The only thing protecting us from the outside was the ships steel frame. As radiation and meteoroids bounced across our cabin. The pressure emitted from the Earth's atmosphere was burning the outside of the ship into a fireball.
We were going down and there was nothing stopping Haunebu from rampaging toward our home-world.
