Part 2. Genesis
In the year August 27th, 1996. I was about to embark on a journey that would change the course of history and my future forever. It all began in a quiet town in the Kanto Region.
The morning sun rose up from the azure lit sky's of Pallet Town. A haven filled with lush grass and blooming colored flowers. This was my home. A place of comfort and sweetness.
Flocks of wild Spearow flew along the sandy southern beaches of Route Twenty-One's ocean. Proclaiming its breathtaking sunrise with exquisite majesty.
A log cabin where my parents lived was very distinct among the white lavish paneled homes around me. I lived a pretty simple life, considering how small our house was. My mom, the gardener, took care of the shrubs that surrounded the square door.
This door faced a stone brick path towards the street. I skipped across the stone patches like hopscotch. Hoping that I wouldn't dare step on a crack.
It was bad luck if I did anyways.
My name is Leaf, my outfit consisted of a teal-blue shirt and a red skirt. I also wore my lucky white rimmed hat.
White was always my favorite color.
It fit in the style of a Premier Poké Ball which I had in my spare pocket of my green and red trimmed Poké Bag. I have blue eyes and long brown hair. Curled a little to accentuate my features.
I am a girly-girl after all.
I was about to become a Pokémon Trainer. One who was eager to tame wild Pokémon in order to become the very best. I am young, thirteen to be precise and certainly naive in many ways—
"Leaf my dear, you have such a warm smile across your face!" Said my mother with glee as she returned my warm gesture.
"Yup, I just can't wait to get my Trainer card! I've been waiting for it all morning. This is going to be great!"
My mother nodded with approval as she picked up her Wailmer pale with benevolent gesticulation and motioned my eye-line toward the front door.
"Your card should already be on the table." She replied with excitement in her voice.
I was so elated, that without any hesitation. I raced towards the door and slammed it open. Nearly smashing a hole in the wall in the process—
"Don't slam the door please!" She yelled.
Ignoring her discretion, my eyes lit up with a bright sparkle. This was my one moment; my whole world was about to ignite into flame.
They each motioned towards the card's placement directly near my favorite seat in the dining area.
Even Mom knew about my favorite seat gyyaaahh! I love her!
With fixed apprehension and blushing with intense anticipation. I rushed quickly toward the wooden dining table near our kitchen.
My fingers slicked across the authentic laminated plastic and with several hollowed stamps glistening alongside the square frame. A picture of my young puffy face rested on the right side of the card with my name on it.
It was a world passport. Certifying my international travel to and from Kanto and despite the regions limitations. This was also a breath of fresh air to know that I could freely travel to any region that I pleased!
That is, of course, if I finished all my gym badges and competed in the Indigo League!
Slipping the Trainer card into my side pocket of my green Poké Bag. I ran to Mother with gratitude.
"Mom, you don't know how much this means to me." I shouted while embracing her frail frame.
"You'll make a fine Trainer, my dear, you better hurry. Red and Blue had already left on their adventure three days ago. Now is your chance to get ahead of them! If your father were here. I am sure he'd be very proud of you."
I nodded with agreement and smiled back at my mother.
I am grateful to her, and I am going to miss her. However, if I don't turn around now. I'll regret my decision.
"I love you Mom." I replied to her softly as I embraced her again with wide open arms.
"I love you too sweat pea. Now hurry along or else Mom is going to cry, and I don't want to embarrass myself." She said with a tease.
I had to run too, or I would have embarrassed myself as well. This was what my mom wanted, for me to grow up and to not look back on home. If I did, I wouldn't learn, I wouldn't be able to embrace who I truly am.
Bursting with energy and holding back my tears. I curled my fingers across the linen straps of my bag and tipped my hat forward. leaping across the stone brick patio.
My shoes pounced against the smooth pavement. Running over the cracks that I avoided all my life.
This was the moment in which my resolve would begin anew. I am now a Pokémon Trainer and no longer a child left in the care of my mother.
I could sense within that moment as I advanced further. My mother was waving at me as a fond gesture of farewell. I turned back to face her; she grinned back at me with those wise wrinkly dimples of hers. She had accepted my resolve with purpose. But I could tell she was going to miss me.
"Mom, I will not disappoint you. I will become the worlds greatest Pokémon Trainer and I will do it! There is nothing else that is going to stop me!" I gestured with an enthusiastic pointed finger.
My mother did her best not to cry, but the tears kept flowing down from her tender wrinkled skin.
She was so proud of my confidence and that I was able to exude such passion from those words. That it never occurred to her that I would fail in this tumultuous trek I was about to embark on.
She knew it and she believed it.
With every stride; I paced myself briskly across the sidewalk. Inhaling enough energy as I could within my lungs to excel further toward my goal.
Sprinting with eagerness. I gained enough feet that my home appeared but a blur on the horizon.
This was my choice, and I had committed myself to becoming a great Pokémon Trainer. Red and Professor Oaks' grandson may already be trucking on their journeys. However, this day was my time, my genesis!
It was time for me to obtain my first Pokémon from the most renown researcher in all the land!
Professor Samuel Oak's lab was not far from my mothers cabin, at least several blocks in fact. I could see it as clear as the blue sky ahead. It was a larger building, about several stories tall. Nesting a top the southern green hills of Pallet Town.
This is it! My mind shouted with heartfelt jubilation. I was about to obtain my very first Pokémon and there couldn't have been a better point in time than now!
Would I be able to obtain a cute little Jigglypuff?
"Gyaaaaaa!!!" The possibilities were endless.
My heart pounded with fervor as I squeaked with a thrill voice. Her round puffy face never escaped my thoughts.
If it was that cutie, I would have her for my Pokémon without a seconds hesitation!
I was about to find out the hard way. I was so wrong, all along.
