Chasing to the Finish

And so, along with Gary and Horace, Goh managed to achieve a title of chaser.

Just as Gary was gonna leave though, there was a scream.

And off a cliff came a Glaceon pulling a person who was snowboarding.

" EEVEE SLOW DOOOOOWN!"

The Glaceon obeyed and promptly landed on her feet.

The poor human, on the other hand, face planted into the snow.

" Glaceon!"

The kid sighed. " It's fine Eevee. Now just help me outta here!"

The Glaceon pulled, and the girl stood up and dusted her clothes. " Now that that's done...."

" Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Regieleki, and Regigigas return!"

The five legendary instantly disappeared.

" Ah, that was nice."

Then her phone rang and she looked at it, then signed.

" What do you want?"

" Wisty it's me."

" I know who you are Ash. What happened and why are you calling?"

" Because I haven't seen you for a few hours. You said you had to run an errand!"

" I did! I had to return my five legendary Pokemon, then return them to their natural habitat. It was hard enough the Project Mew people wanted me to pretend they were not mine for who knows how long, but not knowing who could do what to them?"

" They're legendary Pokemon, Wist. Have some faith in them."

Wisty exhaled a deep breath, her fingers absently stroking Eevee's fur as the call continued. "You know I don't have that luxury, Ash. I can't just leave them anywhere, especially not when people think I'm some kind of shadow researcher for Project Mew. I've got to be careful, and you know it."

Ash's voice softened, the usual playful edge gone. "I know, Wisty. I just worry about you sometimes. You're always taking on so much. Do you ever take a break?"

Wisty's eyes narrowed slightly, but not in anger-more in a quiet contemplation. "Taking a break's not something I can afford, Ash. Not with the kind of Pokémon I work with." Her voice was firm but tinged with a sadness that Ash didn't miss. He knew how much pressure she put on herself to always be there for her Pokémon, especially the ones no one else understood.

"Yeah, but even the strongest people need rest," Ash countered gently.

She scoffed, though there was no malice in her tone. "Resting and I aren't on the best of terms. You know that."

Ash sighed, clearly not convinced. "Just don't burn yourself out, okay? You've got people who care about you."

Wisty paused, looking over at Eevee, who was now grooming her fluffy tail. "I know, Ash. But sometimes it feels like the only ones who really understand are them."

Just then, the screech of snowboards in the distance cut through the conversation. Wisty looked up, her focus shifting. A small group of snowboarders, dressed in bright gear, were speeding down the slope, cutting through the snow like blades. She squinted as one of them caught her eye-someone who looked vaguely familiar.

"Ash," she murmured, not breaking her gaze, "I have to go. I'll catch you later."

"What? Wait, Wisty, what's-" But before Ash could finish his sentence, Wisty already ended the call, slipping her phone into her pocket.

Turning to Eevee, she nodded. "Let's go, girl. We have work to do."
