Dinner with Delia
Misty smothered her white dress and looked in the mirror of the observatory as she unties her hair and brushed it. " Do I look good?" She asked as she struck a pose.
Ash nodded. " Yeah, but I think you look cuter with your pony. Then again, you look cute with that style too."
Misty let out a shaky breath. " I just want to make a good first impression."
" My mom's met you before, Misty. It's nothing new."
" But this is different!" Misty argued. " It's gonna be the day we tell her we're husband and wife!"
Ash glanced at the front door front door, which was a few steps away. He sighed gently and tucked a strand of Misty's hair behind her ear. " Misty, you already look so beautiful. I can't think of anyway to change your look!"
Misty blushed, and ash quickly pecked her on the cheek. * Now, are you ready, Mist?"
Misty let out a nervous giggle. " As ready as ever."
Ash took a deep breath as he stood in front of this house's door and turned to face his girlfriend. She was breathing heavily, and biting the one hand that was free.
The other one was holding Ash's hand.
Misty took a few deep breaths as she clutched Ash's hand tighter, her fingers trembling slightly. "Ash, what if she doesn't approve? I mean, we didn't exactly do this the traditional way."
Ash squeezed her hand gently, giving her a reassuring smile. "Misty, she already loves you. She's always been fond of you since the day we met. Plus, you're her daughter-in-law now. Trust me, everything will be fine."
Misty nodded, though her heart still raced. "It's just... it's such a big deal, Ash. Telling her we're gonna get married is huge!"
Ash chuckled softly. "I get it, Mist, but my mom's going to be thrilled. She's always wanted me to settle down—and let's be honest, she probably saw this coming."
Misty smiled at the thought but couldn't shake her nerves. She fixed her hair one last time, smoothing down her dress again. "Okay, okay. We'll go in together, and I'll just try to act natural."
"Exactly," Ash said, leaning in to give her one more kiss on the forehead. "We're in this together. No need to be nervous."
Misty nodded again, still feeling a bit shaky but comforted by Ash's presence. Together, they walked up to the front door of Ash's house. Ash knocked gently, and they waited in silence for a moment before the door swung open, revealing Ash's mother, Delia, standing there with a bright smile.
"Ash! Misty! Oh, it's so good to see you both!" Delia greeted them warmly, pulling them into a hug.
"Hey, Mom," Ash said, hugging her back. Misty smiled nervously as Delia turned to her, pulling her into the embrace.
"Misty, dear, you look stunning!" Delia said, pulling back to look at her. "Is that a new dress?"
"Thank you, Mrs. Ketchum. Uh, yeah, it is," Misty replied, her voice slightly shaky but still managing a smile.
Delia ushered them inside, oblivious to the nervousness between them. As they entered the living room, Ash glanced at Misty, who gave him a small, encouraging nod.
"Mom, we actually have something important to tell you," Ash began, his tone more serious now.
Delia's smile faltered for a moment, her eyebrows raising in curiosity. "Oh? What is it?"
Ash took a deep breath and looked at Misty, who squeezed his hand. "Well, Misty and I... we're gonna get married."
Delia blinked, her expression frozen in surprise. The silence that followed felt like it stretched on for hours, but then, slowly, her face broke into a beaming smile.
"Married? Oh my goodness!" Delia exclaimed, her hands flying to her mouth. "That's wonderful news! Oh, I'm so happy for you two!"
Misty let out a sigh of relief she hadn't realized she'd been holding in. "Really? You're not upset we didn't tell you sooner?"
"Upset?" Delia laughed, pulling them both into another hug. "How could I be upset? I've always known you two were meant for each other. I'm just so happy you finally made it official!"
Ash and Misty exchanged a look, both feeling the weight of their nerves lifting.
"See?" Ash whispered to Misty with a grin. "Told you she'd be happy."
Misty giggled softly, feeling a mixture of joy and relief. "I guess I was worried for nothing."
"Congratulations, both of you!" Delia said, stepping back to admire them. "Now, this calls for a celebration! You'll have to tell me everything!"
Ash and Misty smiled, their hands still entwined as they realized everything was going to be just fine.
Suddenly, Ash's phone rang.
" Hey, Ash? It's Bro-"
" Excuse me. I have to take this." Ash apologized as we went to the hallway and answered the phone. " Hey, Bro-"
" ASH HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
IN the background, he could hear Tracy sigh in content. " What happened?"
" LOOK OUT YOUR WINDOW!"
Ash went to the front door and threw it open and said, " Why would I wan- Oh. Oh, no."
There was a car rocketing in the sky.
" What are you two doing up there?!" Ash exclaimed as the threw his hand forward. " I thought we told Tracy-"
" HE DIDN'T CARE!"
Misty and Delia came out. " What's all the commotion?" Misty asked as she saw her boyfriend staring at the sky.
" Just look up."
Misty and Delia followed Ash's gaze, and their eyes widened as they saw the car soaring through the air, spinning wildly. Brock's panicked screams could be faintly heard, even from the ground, while Tracy's calm voice came through Ash's phone speaker.
"Well, this is certainly an unexpected development," Tracy said casually, as if discussing the weather. "I guess I should've double-checked Brock's directions before we took off."
Delia blinked a few times, trying to process what she was seeing. "Is that... Brock and Tracy... flying in a car?"
Ash nodded slowly, pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation. "Yeah... this keeps happening. I should've known something like this would go down."
Misty crossed her arms, half-amused and half-annoyed. "Tracy seems like he's having the time of his life, but Brock... He's screaming his lungs out."
"Typical," Ash muttered, running a hand through his hair. "Tracy always finds a way to make things worse while staying calm. How is that even possible?"
As the car continued to loop in the sky, Misty leaned over and whispered, "Ash, what's the plan here? Are we supposed to... catch them again?"
"At this point, I think we're just hoping they land without, you know, crashing into anything important," Ash sighed.
Delia put a hand on her son's shoulder. "You're handling this so well, Ash. I'm proud of you." She smiled warmly.
"Thanks, Mom," Ash said, though his eyes were still glued to the car, which was beginning to descend at an alarming rate. "But I'm starting to wonder if handling it means I'm just used to this kind of chaos now."
"Wait!" Misty shouted, grabbing Ash's arm. "Look! They're coming down... fast!"
Ash groaned, watching the car plummet toward the ground in a spiraling freefall. "Tracy! Brock! Deploy the parachute!" he yelled into the phone.
There was a brief pause before Tracy's calm voice responded. "Oh, right. We do have a parachute. Hang on, Brock, I'll pull it now."
Suddenly, a bright orange parachute shot out of the back of the car, slowing its descent as it floated toward the nearby field. Brock's screaming had turned into heavy breathing as the car gently swayed down.
"Oh thank Arceus," Ash muttered, relieved.
Misty sighed, rubbing her temples. "Next time, remind me to ask why we associate with them."
Delia chuckled softly. "They certainly keep life interesting, don't they?"
The car finally landed with a soft thud in the field, the parachute draping over it like a giant blanket. From inside, Brock slowly opened the door and stumbled out, his face pale and his legs shaking. "I'm never doing that again," he mumbled to himself.
Tracy followed, stepping out calmly and stretching his arms. "Well, that was fun. We should try it again sometime."
"NO!" Brock shouted, before collapsing onto the ground in sheer exhaustion.
Ash shook his head, tucking his phone away as he turned back to Misty and his mom. "Well, at least no one got hurt... again."
Misty raised an eyebrow. "So, dinner's postponed until we get them back inside?"
Ash smiled sheepishly. "Yeah... Let's go rescue them before Brock completely loses it."
With a chuckle, Misty took Ash's hand, and together they headed toward the field where Tracy and Brock awaited their next inevitable round of chaos.
As they approached the field, Tracy was already gathering his sketchbook and some scattered papers from the car, completely unfazed by the whole ordeal. He waved to Ash, Misty, and Delia, beaming with excitement.
"I'm gonna head over to Professor Oak's lab and show him my sketches!" Tracy said cheerfully, holding up a few drawings of the chaotic ride they'd just experienced.
Brock, still lying on the ground and recovering from the trauma, raised a shaky hand and muttered, "You... do... that..." His voice was weak, as if he had just gone through the most exhausting experience of his life.
Ash crouched down next to Brock, patting him on the back. "You good, buddy?"
Brock gave him a sideways glare. "Define 'good.' I'm never getting in a car with Tracy again. Ever."
Tracy, seemingly oblivious, grinned and waved goodbye. "I'll catch up with you guys later! Gotta show Professor Oak these sketches while they're still fresh!"
As Tracy jogged off toward the lab, Misty shook her head, watching him go. "How is he always so calm? He just survived a near-death experience and acts like he just went on a walk in the park."
Ash shrugged. "I guess that's just Tracy for you. He's always more excited about drawing than worrying about whether he's gonna crash or not."
Delia chuckled softly. "It's nice that Tracy can find joy in everything he does, though. But Brock..." She looked down at him, still sprawled out in the grass. "Maybe you should take it easy for a bit."
Brock sat up slowly, rubbing his temples. "I think I'll stay on the ground for a while... You guys go ahead without me."
Ash offered him a hand, helping him up. "C'mon, Brock. You'll feel better after some dinner."
Brock sighed, shaking his head. "Only if you promise me Tracy's not driving home later."
"Deal," Ash laughed, as they all started walking back to the house.
From a distance, Tracy could be heard humming a cheerful tune as he made his way to Professor Oak's lab, completely content with his sketches of the wild ride. Meanwhile, Brock was still recovering from the aftermath, muttering something about "never trusting Tracy with directions again."
As they stepped inside, the ground began to tremble slightly beneath their feet. Misty and Ash exchanged knowing glances and said in unison, "Tracy."
Delia looked puzzled and asked, "Tracy? What does he have to do with this?"
Ash sighed, giving a small, amused smile. "Yeah, it's Tracy. Whenever he's showing Professor Oak his sketches, he shakes like crazy. It's something we've gotten used to since the first time he came to Pallet Town. He does it when he's nervous."
Misty nodded in agreement. "I remember the first time I felt it. We were sitting on Oak's sofa and he said, ' good thing I'm not nervous!'. But ten seconds later he shook like crazy. I thought it was an Earthquake at first. But no. It was just Tracy."
Delia blinked in surprise. "He shakes that much? That poor boy, I had no idea."
Ash chuckled. "Yeah, it's his way of dealing with nerves, I guess. Every time he's super excited or anxious about showing his work to Professor Oak, it happens. He's just a bit... intense when it comes to impressing the professor."
Misty laughed softly, shaking her head. "Well, at least we know the town's not falling apart. It's just Tracy being Tracy."
As the tremors continued, they all stood there for a moment, feeling the subtle vibrations beneath them. Delia let out a lighthearted sigh. "Well, I suppose it could be worse. I'll just make sure all the dishes are secure before he visits next time."
Ash grinned. "Good idea, Mom."
