His Smile
Serena's P.O.V
"You still like him!" Dawn jumped up and down as she ran towards me after I stepped out of my Language Arts class.
"What?" I asked, backing up.
"You still have a crush on Ash!" Dawn smiled.
"What!? N- no I don't!" I said as I felt my cheeks heat up once again.
"Yes you do!" Dawn grinned the most I've ever seen her grin, which made me take another step back. "Don't lie to yourself! You obviously still have feelings for him!"
I didn't know what to do, so I denied it, "No, I don't!"
"Jeez. You're stubborn aren't you?" She looked at me.
"And you're persistent aren't you?" I starred back at her.
"Way to play." She laughed. "But seriously, you got to make your move!"
"Make my move?"
"Yeah! Someone might take him away from you!"
"Uh, I don't think it works that way." I sweat dropped.
"You don't want him to move again do you?"
I felt myself flinch, remembering the pain when Ash left.
"Why are we even talking about this?" I sighed.
"Because. That's what friends do." She smirked.
"Mhm." I said sarcastically as I walked over to the cafeteria.
"Oh, come on! It's not like you didn't act like this when I told you about my crush."
I sighed again as I thought about it and said, "Yeah, I guess that's true."
"So now it's my turn." Dawn added, placing her hand over her, as if presenting herself.
"Yeah, sure." I rolled my eyes as I entered the cafeteria.
The whole place was crowded, people coming and going with trays of food just like in junior high, but just with more people.
"Do you see Ash anywhere?" Dawn asked.
"What? Why-" I asked before getting interrupted by Dawn.
"There he is!" She pointed over to one of the lunch lines, Ash there waiting at the end of the line.
Dawn put her hand on my back and pushed me forward.
"What was that for?" I looked back at her.
"It was for being stubborn. Now go talk to Ash or something." She pushed me again.
"Okay! Just stop pushing me! It's annoying." I started to walk towards Ash, realizing my mistake as I neared him.
I took a place in line right behind him, but didn't say anything, my mouth not allowing me to talk.
"Oh, hey Serena!" Ash turned around.
"Uh-" I looked at him, not knowing what to say.
"Why were you sad earlier?" He asked.
"Wh- what do you mean?"
"I mean when I saw you in the hall this morning. Is everything all right?"
"Yeah, everything's fine!" I gave a nervous smile.
"What happened while I was gone?" He asked, fixing his hat.
"Nothing really. You should know that Drew and May are dating, but that's pretty much it." I felt myself talking faster.
"So no one's changed?" He walked forward with the line. "Besides you I mean."
"Yeah..." I replied.
It went quite for awhile until I decided to ask him something.
"Um Ash?" I looked up at him.
He turned around to face me. "Yeah?"
"Why... Why didn't you text me?" I asked this, my heart beating ten times per second.
"Oh. Sorry about that." He scratched the back of his head. "You see, my phone was kinda destroyed on the way to the place where I was moving and it was kinda the 5th phone I broke so my mom didn't allow me to get another one." He laughed nervously. "I'm super sorry." He held his head down in shame.
I sweat dropped as I watched him hang his head. "It's alright. I mean- you're here now, right?"
He stood back up and gave me a smile. "Yeah, you're right."
Then his face lit up. "Oh! I ate all of those macaroons you made! They were great! Do you mind if you can make some more for me?"
"Yeah, of course!" I blushed slightly as I smiled back at him.
"Hey! Move up will ya!?" A boy behind me yelled.
I looked over Ash's shoulder and saw that the line moved up about 7 feet.
Ash turned back around and walked up to the front of the line.
"Um... Are you dating anyone?" He said, continuing to look ahead of him. "Calem maybe?"
"What? No. I thought I already told you that me and Calem are just friends."
"Okay, I was just wondering if maybe you changed your mind. I mean, it has been 3 years." He went up to order his lunch, leaving me there in line.

I decided to ignore what Ash asked throughout lunch. Why did he decide to ask that out of all things? Did he not like Calem? I mean, I understand they weren't friends or anything, but it's bothering me.
After lunch, I headed to Science to learn that I got an A on my test, thank goodness. I don't know how I did it, but I did, probably out of plain luck. But then I saw Miette. Still the same person as she was when she left for her vacation. And the worst thing about Science is that I had to sit next her.
"So Serena? How did you do on your test?" Miette asked, raising her eyebrows.
I knew she was expecting me to have a bad grade, so I gladly blurted out, "An A."
Miette's expression didn't change, keeping her cool and acting like she didn't plan on hearing me having a bad grade as she always did. She acted quickly, which was what I hated about her.
"That's nice." She smiled. "Make sure to not fail the next one like you did in LCC."
I felt rage rise up once she mentioned what happened in LCC. In case you don't know, that's a class where we cook all kinds of food and I kinda set off the fire alarm by burning something- which led to a fire drill happening in the middle of the 12th graders having lunch, which meant that I ruined their lunch and no one got to eat... good job Serena, someone give me a medal... note the sarcasm.

Then after Science I headed for Spanish.
Right when I entered Spanish Class my teacher already put up the PowerPoint on the screen. I took my seat, which was in the back and got out my notebook.
"As of today, we're getting a new student!" My teacher said, her tone not changing one bit... Wait? New student? Oh-
"His name's Ash Ketchum."
I facepalmed myself. Yep. Saw this coming the moment she said "new student".
Ash walked into the classroom with a smile.
"You may sit wherever you like, as long as it's not a place where you know you will talk." My teacher said.
Ash, just like last time in Math class 3 years ago, he saw me and saw that I was seating next to an empty spot and sat next to me.
"Serena, may you show him what to do once we start taking notes?" My teacher asked.
"Uh- yes ma'am." I looked over at Ash.
He was starring at me with the same smile as always. I liked seeing his smile again though. Every time I saw it, I feel my heartbeat release another wave, making me feel warm, but giving me goosebumps. Maybe Spanish wouldn't be my most hated class after all.
"Good, now that we're all set, bring out your notebooks. It's time to take notes." My teacher said, still with the flattest tone I could ever imagine.
Annndd I'm back to hating Spanish class.
