Change

Serena's P.O.V

"HEY! Why won't you listen!?" She yelled in my ears.

I jerked up and held my ears as I almost fell backwards from the steps of the entrance of the highschool.

"Dawn! What the hell!?" I looked over at her.

"Sorry. But you wouldn't answer." She crossed her arms and starred at me.

"Well, SORRY that I was actually trying to study for the test which you should be doing!" I yelled.

"I still don't understand how all of a sudden you're all about your grades." Dawn took the seat next to me. "I also still don't understand why you cut all that hair of yours."

It was lunch at our school, just an ordinary, stressful day and I decided to study for my science test. To let you know, I suck at science and I do not need my grade to go any lower then what it already is.

"I'm only studying because I can't flunk the test. If I do, my grade could drop down to a D and my mom would kill me." I said, my voice serious. "Plus, I cut my hair to try something new. I think it looks cute anyways." I give a reassuring smile and then giggled.

"Yeah sure, you even changed you're whole outfit." Dawn rolled her eyes.

I looked down at my outfit. I wore a light pink dress over a gray tank-top with a white collar. Over my dress I wear a long red vest with pockets on the sides. I also wore black stockings and brown boots.

I then looked above me and looked at my pink fedora with a black hatband. I also changed my backpack. It's now a pink backpack with a black sphere design on the middle of it that held my books and notebooks for school.

"Why? Do you not think it looks cute?" I looked back at Dawn.

"No, no!" She put her hands in front of her. "I think it looks great! I'm just surprised that you went through such a change."

"Okay then." I sighed and looked back down at the piece of paper in front of me.

"Agh." Dawn looked in front of her and watched student walk around campus. "It's so boring with you just studying!"

"Go hang around May, Misty and Iris or something." I say as I scribble down notes.

"No way, all they're talking about right now is about that new boy named Alain."

"Why? Do you not think he's cute?" I ask, laughing.

"Uh- no! You know who I like! And it's definitely not Alain! He's too serious all the time." She crossed her arms and then opened her right eye and looked over at me. "Do you like him?"

"Alain? No. Like what you said, he's too serious and acts too cool all the dang time."

"I heard that Miette is looking for a new boyfriend. Do you think that she'll be going after Alain once she comes back from vacation?"

"Maybe, but I don't care. It's not like Alain would even date her anyway. I don't think he would want to date any girl with the way he acts."

"Yeah, I guess that's true." Dawn looked back over to crowd of people talking all over campus.

After a few minutes passed by, she spoke up.

"Do you remember Ash?" She asked.

I stopped writing. "Yeah." I said, without looking up from the paper.

"I wonder where he is now. Did he ever text you after he left?" She looked over at me.

I went back to writing down answers on the piece of paper. "No."

"Well that's upsetting." Dawn pouted. "You had a crush on him didn't you?"

I felt it go silent for awhile as I remembered Ash. His raven hair never brushed as he came to school with his brown eyes. I wondered what he looked like now.

The bell rang and everyone immediately rushing back into the building. Me and Dawn jumped up and followed them so we didn't get pummeled.

I was in 11th grade. It was the third quarter of the year and everyone still seems to be hyped about last summer, as if they were all running on caffeine.

I eventually reached my next class and took the science test which I hope that I didn't fail, most of the answers were still confusing even after studying.

After science was Spanish... what joy. To be honest, I hate Spanish. I don't hate Spanish specifically, but Spanish Class was what I hated. Especially the teacher I had. Why did I get her instead of the nice, sweet Spanish teacher that everyone else had? The fact that everyone of my friends had the nice teacher didn't make sense. I was there in that class, alone and bored as heck. All we do is take notes as she shows us a PowerPoint. And the worst part of it all was that she only gave us like 30 seconds to write down what was on like a whole page worth of notes. So I had to read it as fast as I could so I could write down what I remembered.

After Spanish was my last and final period, Social Studies. Easily still my favorite subject. I swear, Social Studies has the best teachers. And the subjects they taught always blew my mind.

Then after Social Studies, was the end of school. I still walked home. Not any of the buses at school drove by or near my home, so I had to walk. My mom offered to drive me to and back from school, but I was too used to walking anyway, so I declined.

"How was you're day at school?" My mom asked, clapping her hands together.

"It was good." I set my backpack down and searched through it for my homework.

"We'll be having chicken and rice tonight." My mom headed for the kitchen and showed me the bag of rice and two large cans of sliced chicken meat.

"Tell me when it's ready!" I ran up the stairs with my homework in my hands and walked into my room.

Once I did, I found Fenn running towards me and jumped up and down, excited to see me after school.

"Hey girl." I knelt down and started to pet her. "Did you miss me?" I smiled.

She panted and then ran around my room, clearly wanting to play.

I stood back up and said, "Sorry girl, I have to do my homework."

I sat down at my desk and set down my homework, technically counted as a pile of homework.

Fenn whined and walked over to me and sat their, eagerly waiting for me to finish.

"It's going to take me a whole hour! Do you really want to wait that long?" I looked down at her.

Fenn just sat there and continued to look up at me and wagged her tail, still waiting eagerly.

I have a sigh and said, "Okay then, but you'll be bored out of your mind." I turned back to the pile of homework sitting in front of me, my heart sinking once I saw it. "Agh, this is going to take forever." I took a piece of paper from the pile and started to do the homework.

Literally a hour passed by until I finally finished.

I moved my hand to my face and rubbed my eyes.

I yawned and looked back down at Fenn. She was laying down and once she saw me turn around, she perked up and sat right back up. I couldn't believe that she was still waiting.

I sat up and walked over to the pile of dog toys and grabbed a small rubber hamburger and threw it.

Fenn ran up to it and grabbed it with her mouth. She then shook her head back and forth and walked back over to me and dropped it in front of me, her slobber all over the chew toy already.

"Eh- here." grabbed the toy and threw it back across the room and rubbed my hands against the carpet the wipe of the slobber.

The cycle continued as she continued to bring back the toy continuously, until finally, I quit.

"Sorry Fenn." I stood up, my hand exhausted from throwing the chew toy over and over without any breaks. "I think it's time for dinner anyway." I walked towards the door, Fenn following and walked down stairs to find my mom setting down the bowls on the table.

"Is it done?" I walked over to the bowl, steam coming out of it.

"Yes, but wait till its cooled off." My mom set down her bowl and walked back over to the kitchen sink to wash her hands. "So is there any cute boys at school lately?" She asked, a smirk on her face.

I felt my face heat up from embarrassment. "Mom! And no there isn't!" I put my spoon into the bowl in front of me.

"I was just asking." She shrugged.

I sighed and sat down at the table. This was going to be a long year of highschool.
