Chapter 24: Sleep

Flora's Pov

Two days of sleep might not have been enough to take away all the stress we've been through, but it's been the best sleep in a long time. We ended up sleeping the entire time for a long time instead of staying awake and speaking to each other. I really needed to tell him the lies Cyrus has made, but sleep felt so good...

Often, there were people trying to wake us up, but there wasn't anything big enough to make us leave our paradise. By the second day, I believe, I regained enough energy and sat up to an empty room. Flame wasn't anywhere in sight, just a note on the pillow he used when we slept together.

"Dear Flower,

I hope you had a well rested sleep. It felt like it's been ages since I slept so well. Stress takes a toll on our bodies from overwork, but now that I'm well rested, I have to leave for the mission. Feel free to use the bathroom.

As much as I want you to not get involved, I can't stop you. I can't tell you where I'm going, but I'm guessing you're smart enough to figure it out later. The Pokémon of the lakes are still here. They will not be needed in the final mission, so I trust that you'll save them. Until then, I look forward to seeing you. Please be careful!

-love Flame"

I pressed the note on my face and wanted to squeal so badly, blushing hard from the last thing he said.

"He said love..." I laughed and laid on the bed happily, observing the pretty fake stars shining on the ceiling. Flame's room was still dark with no window, but it was very cozy. With the walls looking like the night sky and the room was set to probably 65 degrees F (18 degrees C) I can see why he hated sleeping outside all the time.

I took the time to take a shower in his bathroom before getting ready to leave in a new outfit that screams savior of the world, as a joke, and left to run around the building. There was a specific door that caught my interest and needed the Galactic key to open. Once opened, I walked into a computer room and Cyrus typing on the computer.

"So you've come" he said without looking at me, still typing. He then turned and observed me "You heard my speech, I take it. How was your beauty sleep?" I blushed and ignored that.

"Everything you said were lies, wasn't it?" He hid his laugh.

"Of course! It's true insofar as my intention is to crest a new world. But that world isn't for the likes of Team Galactic. I seek an entirely new world solely for myself" he started laughing. I took a step back in shock at what Cyrus admitted, shocked "If not, it could never be the complete and perfect world"

"What makes you so great that you think you can make a perfect world while the children you adopted are tossed to the side!? How selfish! Everyone is working hard for you and you do a thing like this!?" He huffed.

"You've seen my minions of Team Galactic. You yourself must know that they are uniformly useless and incomplete. That's why Mercury is often yelling at them. He's the best team member I have, but even he is incomplete. You are a big reason for it" he took a step forward as I took a step back. This guy is insane! "There's a reason why you came here, not just for Mercury, but for Uxie, Mesprit, and Azulf, correct?" I was shaking, but I didn't let it show "You want to save them"

"Where are they?!" I shouted.

"I no longer have any need for them. I am finished with them. If your heart aches to save them, go right ahead. I couldn't care less" he waved his hand "it'll save me the trouble of disposing them. But, I am still in need for Mercury"

"His name is Flame! You're just a lier and poisoned his mind! You might've taken him in when he got lost, but that means nothing now! I'll be taking him once I find him again!" I started crying a bit.

"I must say... You are a remarkable specimen. Those Pokémon have nothing to do with you, do they?"

"More than you know! It's the same with Flame!" He snorted and tapped on the table.

"So, you do have something to do with them? I see... and you're saying Mercury is the same as well? He didn't say anything when he came back after capturing Mesprit in Lake Verity"

"You-"

"Such pitiful useless emotions... It's illogical and irrational. Pointless for what Pokémon gave people... Pity and compassion are products of the weak and faulty human heart"

"You're a damn human! Show some sympathy to this world! To your family! You're an old man who doesn't know what life is about! What is it? Did Mesprit take your emotions from you?!"

"Enough!" He shouted. I jumped and held in my tears "You are compelled to come here by such vacuous sentimentality! I will make you regret paying heed to your heart" he grabbed my hair and shook me around, making me scream and threw me to the wall. I stared up at his scary face horrified "You are a good trainer, I'll admit, but it's wasteful. The basis of your power is your compassion towards Pokémon. Such emotions are but mere illusions. And, like all illusions, they fade over time until death banished them forever" he looked away "that's why I have abandoned all the emotions as useless sentimentality"

"You coward..." I glared and stood back up, holding my numb arm that hit the wall "Couldn't even handle the fact that I might beat you again in battle, so you resort in hurting someone smaller than you. Don't you care about anything?! Even your family? Flame is doing all this to make you happy! You're just using him and everyone else who cheered you on!" He looked back at me with a bored look on his face.

"That doesn't matter. I doubt you will ever understand my position. That said, I recognize that you are strong and courageous to come alone" he dug in his pocket and took out a blue and purple ball with a M on it "For going through all the trouble, this is your reward" he tossed it to me. I caught it and looked at it confused.

"This is a ball that can catch any Pokémon without fail" I looked back at him "Why?"

"I received this from Mercury awhile back, but it's not anything I require" Flame had something like this? "Unlike you trainers, I do not make Pokémon my friends or partners. Unlike other Team Galactic members, I don't use Pokémon as tools, instead I make the power of them my own" he walked away and looked back at me "If you wish to save the Pokémon from the lakes, go through that door over there. I'm off to Mt.Coronet now that my team are well rested after collecting the Pokémon. I will ascend the mountain to its peak where destiny awaits me" he lightly punched his chest "It is there that I will create my new world..." he walked out. I shook my head and looked at the Master ball in my hands.

"He doesn't know what he's talking about. Whatever he went through in life must've made him think like this, but there's so much more than thinking you need to have a world all on your own. What then..?" I went off through the doors Cyrus told me about to find the trio sealed in some containers attached to machines!

"You guys!" I gasped quietly and rushed to the closest one in front of me "Uxie!" I looked at the others in panic. I looked around the machine and stopped to see Saturn and that one scary guy I met in the racing stadium that took Flame away from me.

"These Pokémon of the lakes. Where do you suppose they do?" The scary guy asked Saturn. Saturn looked like he hasn't slept.

"Are you blind?"

"No. Pay it no heed. A new world isn't overly interesting. If Cyrus is right, then Team Galactic will rule that new world. That's when it will be interesting. A chance to enjoy its sweets. I surely hope that our visionary Cyrus realizes his dreams" the guy sighed. Did he ever tell me his name? "I look forward to whatever our beloved leader had planned atop of Mt.Coronet" he sounded sarcastic, like he knew exactly what Cyrus is up to, but doesn't care enough to say anything about it.

"Gramps" Saturn said "Father can do without your kind of moral support" I walked up to them, but he didn't bother turning to me for a second. He then turned with a tired look on his face "You... You came all the way here just to save some Pokémon? No, Mercury..." he looked away "... I just don't understand. You're the only reason why he's been different. What makes you so special? Is it because you knew him before father adopted him? I never seen that kind of smile on his face... He took you to his room and you guys stayed there the entire time" he bit his lips "He never had that kind of relationship with us. Mars, Jupiter, and I came after him and worked so hard to please him, but he was always angry. Everyone fears him, yet you make him different. He's a different person" he stared into my eyes.

"Mercury is the only executive we have, which makes him strong. He's also the oldest out of all of us. We didn't meet him off the bat though. He was suffering from nightmares for a few years even after we came into the picture. We waited for him to wake up, and when he did on his own, he never saw us as family. He only tolerated us" he held his face "I'm guessing it's only because somewhere he just knew we weren't a real family. I commented it to father, but he didn't really seem to care. I just don't understand him either. Why would he let a kid like you just stay here and then come and go freely..?" He groaned "What's so great about you anyway?"

"Probably because he wants to see if this girl can actually stop him" the man said "I bet she wants to take Mercury back with her to whatever she lives and meet their mothers" Saturn and I looked at him confused. How the hell does he know that?! "Mercury was in here this morning, talking to the Pokémon. He spoke to them, like nothing else was around" he left the room. Saturn turned to me with a glare.

"You really think you can just take him away from us after we worked so hard so this mission?! You're not suppose to matter! We are going to create a new world! You'll be thrown to the side in this incomplete world, so why did he bother picking you up that day and carry you to his room!? He never lets anyone in his room!" He shouted with hurt in his voice. I can't imagine how he has felt when Flame couldn't give him the attention he wanted.

"We were kids fooling around and visiting various areas, like the lakes. He blamed himself for many things. He is the kind of guy that holds in guilt, so I'm sorry that you felt wronged. I'm sure Flame appreciated you, but-" Saturn looked like he wanted to cry, but held it back.

"You just come out of nowhere and became his difference. That look in his eyes were so gentle that I thought I was looking at a stranger" he looked down "I never really tried to talk to him. I just did my best to prove myself. You've taken the trouble to come. Let me welcome you" he moved to the side to show a big red button by the machines "Press the button and set the Pokémon free for all I care"

"If you had a father like Cyrus, I wouldn't think you'd know how to express yourself. Just as you're doing now, I hope someday you'll be able to speak to Flame and show how you really feel" I frowned.

"I'm a man. Men don't talk about our feelings" I rolled my eyes and held my hip.

"Fine, then think what you want. Whenever I stop this stupid mission, I will gladly take Flame with me and you'll never get to express how you feel" he looked away as I went up to press the red button to release the lake Pokémon. A breath of relief brushed through them and they were able to leave once looking at me with a smile and left.

"That should do it" I turned around to leave until Saturn spoke again.

"Our father crafted a red chain from crystals he took from the three Pokémon" I looked back at him "that chain is what he needed to shackle something on Mt.Coronet"

"Red chains?"

"It's also apparently needed for creating something, but that's all I know. I doubt even Flame knows what he's planning to do up there" he sighed and sat down "You know... Now that I think about it, back then when he had those nightmares, he always muttered something about flowers" f-flowers..? "That was you... Wasn't it?"

"I-I guess"

"Don't try to deny it. He dreamt about flowers all the time. I'm pretty sure he was just saying your name"

"But how could he? We both lost our memories"

"Dreams are a strange thing... Just as strange as my fathers. I don't know where Mer-Flame is, but he might be with my dad... Go" I leaned down to give him a quick hug. He stiffened up and turned really hot. He looked at me surprised when I let go.

"You're not so bad" I smiled "Thanks" he snorted and looked away, red faced.

"You can go to route 207 and that's where you can find the Sphere Pillar..." I nodded and stood up to leave the room and find my way to
Mt.Coronet, which was really tedious to get through.

The entrance seemed out of place and unnatural, like it was forced open "That a strange place to make a hole. Don't you think?" I asked Looker who I ran into while getting here.

"There was once a cave painting that had blocked the way to the summit" I peaked into the hole I could walk through "but the wall, it is no longer here. It lies in pieces" I rubbed my stomach from how hungry I was "Ever since the three Pokémon of the lakes have been captured... something terrible is happening, but what exactly?" He looks away to think "There is but one cause- hey, aren't you listening to me?!" I was in my own little world thinking about cake.

"Yes" I heard most of what he said, but it was difficult to focus. He informed me that he couldn't go any further with me, so I went into the hole on my own and climbed the mountain with hardly any energy in me. I had a snack bar in my bag I remembered about, but that was pretty much it.

To make matters worse, I found Team Galactic messing with me and tried stopping me. I was pretty hangry, so things were easy just by showing them how much they pissed me off and scaring them away.

The farther I got up the mountain, the more I noticed how cold it was getting. I exit out the inside of the mountain and saw snow outside! I wasn't prepared for the cold weather again, so I hurried to find another entrance to another cave that'll help me up the mountain!

My body was growing more tired by the second. I felt like I couldn't go on any further and leaned by a tree outside. I hugged myself and waited to regain energy.

"Just like always, I do things without thinking. I should had found something to eat before coming here" I sighed, hugging my legs "and I should had known better that the top of a mountain would become cold"

Something softly petted my head. I slowly looked up with my heavy eyes and gazed at a Gardevoir staring down at me with a basket in its arm.

"Gardevoir..?" I reached out to take her hand "You're my Gardevoir, aren't you..?" A Pokémon I had as a Ralts back when I was little was spending the night at a salon when I left, so I didn't get the chance to take her with me on our adventure with Flame and his Ralts.

"Gard..." she nodded and gave me the basket that had bread, berries, and cheese.

"I don't understand..." I took the basket and quickly ate the bread "How did you find me?" She placed a coat over my shoulders and set a scarf behind my neck "Thank you..." I quickly put on everything and hugged myself before standing up, still eating "Did you foresee me out here?" Gardevoir had a unique talent to seeing the future, but the strange thing about it is that even if she knew, she didn't take me home.

"Ga" she pointed at a strange purple haze coming from the top of the mountain, then patted her heart. I stared at her for a moment before tearing up again. She must've held herself back because she knew I was going to do an important mission in the future.

"You must've been so worried" I frowned "Not looking for me, Knowing this may have been the only way for me to find a reason to defeat those who is trying to end the world" she lifted my elbow to get me to keep eating "I can't be mad at that. You did what was needed to be done" I reached out to hold her hand "Please, take me to the place where it'll all start" she nodded and teleported me in front of a Team Galactic grunt guarding a door that was giving me a pounding headache for some reason.
