Chapter 19: Fullmoon
Flora's Pov
The boat that was waiting for me after Byron, Canalave City's gym leader, called for my free ride. The captain ended up being the man who I saw with the kid that's been asleep for a year. He put on a smile I could tell was forced and told me he will take me safely to Iron Island.
"Thank you, sir" I sat on his boat with Vaporeon on my lap.
"No need to thank me! Byron told me he'll be taking care of this trip, so enjoy what you can! You get to see the world, you're one of the lucky ones!" I frowned at him trying hard to be happy, but his eyes told another story.
"I wish there was a way I could help you, sir... If I had an answer, I would give it to you" he looked down to hide his expression "Did your son wander into that inn?"
"Yes... He's still pretty young so he didn't know right from wrong. Kids always want to explore and don't see what can happen to them" I looked down, knowing the feeling.
"I know the feeling"
"You do?" He looked surprised.
"Yes. My best friend and I went exploring when we were kids. We lost our way and our memories"
"For how long?"
"We recently remembered after a few years. We reunited after we separated as well, since we forgot each other" I put my hands together "All I hope is to bring everyone together... I want to find some way to help your son"
"No, it's okay. The fact that you have a kind heart makes me glad that you were able to wake up" he smiled sadly "Let's take you to that island" I smiled back and nodded "Anchors aweigh!" He shouted before sailing.
The trip across the ocean was scary at first since the sight of land disappeared, but it was really refreshing to just enjoy the breeze before we arrived. The captain drove to a harbor with many other boats and I spotted one in particular that stood out to me.
"They're here?" A boat with a Team Galactic's logo was on a boat "I think I won't end up taking long after all" I told him, feeling like I should take care of whoever was on the island instead of training.
The island wasn't very open to tourist. It was a good spot for training and gathering materials for different companies or whatever. I can only guess why Team Galactic would be here, but I had to focus and not get in my negative emotions or I may regret it.
While on the search, I met with this gentleman named Riley who watched the way I battled against a trainer who wouldn't leave me alone all because they wanted a battle. Seeing my talent, Riley asked if I could possibly help him investigate something. The cave's Pokémon behavior was different and he asked if I could give him some of my time.
"Well, since you asked so nicely, sure" I smiled "I'm also investigating something. A organization that calls themselves Team Galactic is on this island and I'm looking for them"
"I never heard of them. I often spend my time in this cave training my Lucario"
"Oh! A Lucario? That Pokémon is strong! It's been hard beating one in Pokémon gyms!" He laughed.
"He's a good partner, I'll tell you that" there were many more annoying trainers who keep asking for battles. Riley helped me double battle to get through this place faster. We navigated through different paths and entrances until we finally spotted two Galactic grunts talking to each other.
"There" I pointed, pulling him towards a wall to hide.
"They seem shady. I bet it's them that's agitating the Pokémon" he glared and hurried to face them. I quickly followed and stood by his side "You both! You're responsible for agitating the Pokémon. Who do you think you are to do something like this?! You can never come up with a good enough reason!" The grunts looked amused and snickered at each other.
"We're Team Galactic! We will do as we please and steal as many Pokémon from here as possible! Isn't that right, partner?" The first grunt laughed. I kept my composure and didn't react.
"You said it, brother!" The second grunt joined him "And there's nothing you can do about it! We're abducting all the Pokémon on this rusted-out iron island!" Riley fisted his hands.
"To share in all the joys and all the sorrows... this is how all the trainers and Pokémon live in Sinnoh. I won't allow anyone to defy that code of ethics" he looked at me still keeping my composure, but in reality I was fuming "Come on, Flora! This is one battle we can't lose!" I nodded and battled with him against the grunts who couldn't stand a chance. They ran off in panic, making the Pokémon around the cave finally calm down. I held my aching head from holding in my anger.
"You alright?" Riley asked, Payton my shoulder.
"I could be better... those guys are really annoying"
"I'll have to agree with you. I'm sure you have to handle them more often. That sounds exhausting. I wish I can offer you a proper thanks" I waved my hand.
"Don't mention it. I wanted to take care of them even before we teamed up" I smiled. Riley suddenly took my hand, throwing me off guard with his charming eyes.
"Spending time with you was very enjoyable" he kissed the back of my hand. My jaw dropped and steam practically came out my ears! I'm blushing like an idiot towards someone I just met! But... It's not the first time "Good luck with finding your friend. The exit should be over there" he pointed and left while waving. I took my hand and held my burning cheek. What even was that..?
"Snap out of it" I slapped my face "Team Galactic is gone from this island, so that means this trip was worth more than training!" I nodded "Well, time to leave. I can't stand another second in this place" I left the cave and went straight to the boat I came from instead of looking around the shops for passing trainers.
"Oh! You're back! You've been gone for a long while!" The captain chuckled "It's about sunset already. Want to head back or stay the night on this island?"
"I rather just go back" I sat on his boat "I wouldn't want you to stay anywhere you don't want to be when you have something you'd rather do, or somewhere you rather be" he slowly nodded and got the boat engine running.
"Thank you for thinking of me. Did you get what you needed to do done?"
"Yes!"
"That's good! Leaving this island is a bit different than arriving to it. There are rocks in various parts of these waters, so I'll have to sail farther just to get back" I was fine what he had to do. I'm pretty sure by the time we get back to the city, it'll be super dark already. I leaned back on my seat and stared up at the stars around the full moon appearing behind the sunset sky.
The captain routed us around the waters for awhile now, leaving farther from the island. I sat up when seeing something sparkling leave the sight of the moon and travel to a certain direction.
"Sir!" I jumped to where the sailor was in his seat "That! Over there!" I pointed at the sparkles.
"What? I don't see anything" it was a strange phenomenal, but if I knew anything, it would be that strange things happen to me for a reason. I felt like I needed to follow that sparkle from the moon.
"Are you willing to take a trip?" I asked him. He looked at me before laughing.
"Adventurous, aren't we? You think you know what you're doing?" I nodded with confidence "Well, I feel like I can say you are good luck. Maybe if I follow you, you can find the answer to helping my son wake up" he smiled at me "Lead the way then" I liked how he had so much confidence in me when I was only following my instinct. I want to do badly hope this sparkle is leading me to something I needed for answers.
The full moon was all the way high and bright in the sky as we continued traveling the waters. I continued to navigate him while following the sparkle for quite some time. He was about to call it quits for safety reasons before he noticed something in his radar.
"What..?" The captain gasped "There's an island nearby. How did you know it was there? Oh right, you see something I don't. You're quite special, aren'tcha kid?" He smirked. You have no idea...
There was no way to park the boat on this island, since no one seem to have ever came here due to its forestry appearance and bushy mess. I hopped off the boat into the water and swam toward the island with Vaporeon helping me.
"You sure this is safe?!" The captain asked. I made it to the beach and waved at him.
"One way to find out! I think I'll be fine! Please wait for me!" I returned Vaporeon and walked into the forestry island, thinking back at the book I was reading that actually had information on the Lunar Wing, during the trip to iron island.
"Cresselia normally returns to its shrine on Full moon island during a certain time of the year. It may also leave feathers, which people use to help reverse nightmare that Darkrai causes" Darkrai was known to be the Pokémon that uses nightmares as a defense mechanism, so I'd say the only reason why those people are asleep is because Darkrai was cautious.
"Still not a good excuse for putting children into comas" I said to myself, using Meganium to remove the branches around us so the path could be easier to walk through.
"Come here..." a voice called. I looked up ahead to see the sparkle from earlier guiding me again!
"Let's go, Meganium" the island wasn't very big, so it wasn't hard getting lost. Any corner I turn to was the ocean, so all I did was walk a straight road and finally found a spot where there were no more trees blocking our way. The sparkle flew over to a shrine right underneath the full moon!
"Beautiful..." I gasped. It's just like what the book says "This is the island Cresselia comes to on a specific time of the year" I walked up to the shrine and put my hands together to pray "Please... If there's any way that I can, please give me the Lunar Wing to wake everyone up" A shine appeared over the shrine. A yellow and pink Pokémon hovered above it!
"You're..." I cupped my mouth. All of a sudden a shine flashed around us and dozens, maybe even hundreds, of feathers appeared and slowly fell on the ground. The feathers glowed with the full moon, making our surroundings sparkling and magical.
"I shall provide as many feathers as possible to those in need" the Pokémon, most likely Cresselia, told me "There are many to go around. Please take a few for yourself as well" I started picking up some feathers to stuff into my bag "in exchange for these feathers, I recommend to save at least one to the girl who will save your life" I looked back at her staring at me.
"The girl who will save my life..?" Cresselia started to fade away "Wait!"
"Use the feathers as needed... You must leave soon. This island will disappear soon" it disappeared through the sparkles returning to the moon. I quickly collected as many feathers as possible, managing to get all of them, and looked back at the moon. What a blessing...
"Oh! You're back!" I flinched and looked behind me to see the captain waving at me from the boat. I looked around to see that I was standing over a simple beach. The forest was gone! "What the..?" The captain seem to notice as well.
I returned my Pokémon and quickly returned to the boat "find anything good?" He asked. I took his hands, surprising him.
"Let's return quickly!" Staring at the look in my eyes, all he did was simply nodded and started the engine to head back to Canalave City! I rested in the back of the boat while staring at the hundreds of feathers in my bag and thinking about what Cresselia told me to do in exchange for the feathers.
"Give one to the girl who will save my life... that girl from the upside down world?" I still don't know what that world was, but it was the only thing that makes sense to me. She's not of this world, thus is why I was never able to see her face to face, only behind water.
"I can't even figure out the relationships I have with these Pokémon" I sighed "but... I'll do my best" I hugged my bag of feathers "I'll take a few for myself and the girl like Cresselia said I should, then the rest will go to those who in need"
By morning we finally arrived back to the city. It didn't occur to me how far exactly full moon island was, but it took us a whole night just to get back!
"The island disappeared, but it left something quite valuable!" The captain and I quickly ran back to the hospital to get things done "It's a miracle that you came to this city and ended up helping us out a lot! Thank you for convincing me to take your lead!" I laughed.
"Don't be silly! It didn't take much to convince you!" The hospital staff was informed before hand that a potential cure for everyone's coma will be coming very soon, so by the time we arrived to the hospital, tons of people with cameras were outside waiting for an interview. We got stopped by them before getting the chance to hurry in.
"Did you really find a cure?" A reporter asked
"I heard lunar wings were the cure! Is that what you're using?! How did you manage to obtain something like that?" All these questions were overwhelming me, especially when sleep hasn't really been my friend lately.
"You're being a nuisance!" I shouted, making everyone quiet down "Before you plaster questions on me, I want to get to these patients as quickly as possible! Move!" I glared. They quickly made space for me and the captain to head up the sleep unit of the hospital and use one lunar wing to wake each patient. So far, it has been a success!
"Thank goodness..." I held my heart, touched to see so many people sobbing to their loved ones. Some of the patient's loved ones weren't there at the moment, but to imagine the look on their faces to see their family member awake... My heart feels full.
"How did you manage to collect so much, miss?" The nurse who helped me as a patient before, asked. I told her about the island the captain and I found "An island? I heard legends of an island like that... You actually ended up going there?" She smiled "We can't thank you enough..." I was truly happy to help.
I looked in my bag to look at least 10 feathers in my bag. Cresselia told me to keep a few, so I felt like keeping this much was alright. They could be for me and those I care about. One will be for the girl I've seen and may eventually meet somehow.
Before I was able to answer more questions, I left the building and avoided the reporters wanting questions about the hero who came from nowhere and saved the city's citizens. I heard somewhere that the mayor was coming to see for himself, but I didn't have time. Before I even left, I told the nurse to get a hold of me through the Professor I'll meet one day. I don't have time to be on the news. It'll only slow me down. Maybe next time.
"I felt like I did a good thing" I smiled hard to myself, feeling good that I could help "Where should I head to next?" Someone touched my arm. I moved away and saw Lucas lifting his hands from me and waved with a smile while holding a brown bag in the other "Lucas?"
"Hey, I didn't expect to run into you here" he gave me the bag "I got this earlier when I came visiting. It's a berry pastry with cheese. I got full, so it's all yours if you want it" I took the bag excitedly and opened it to smell a wonderful aroma. It's still warm!
"Thanks! I was actually pretty hungry after a boat ride" he looked over at the hospital from the distance.
"Why are there so many people over there?" I started eating from delicious pastry and explained to him what happened while going on a walk "What!? You managed to do all that!? You're so cool!" I blushed at being called cool.
"Lucas, would you happen to know where the key to the headquarters in Veilstone city?" I asked. He shook his head.
"No, sorry. I was a low rank, after all" I nodded, understanding "hey, I'm on my way to the library for something important. Why don't you come join me?" I perked up.
"Library??" A library full of books! I may be able to find something about the upside down world, or reverse world, more than the book I had! "Yeah! Let's go!" I hugged his arm, making him red all of a sudden "hey, would you happen to know about a world on the other side of a spring?" He calmed down and looked confused "Nevermind, it's nothing!" He nodded and hurried me to the library, where I got to meet two new characters, one was a scary old man and the other was a familiar and pretty looking girl with big brown eyes and dark hair, in a pink coat.
