Frozen 🐧
Kenny firmly shut the door to his examination room and guided Dawn to the green-striped examination table, his brows furrowed with worry.
"Dee Dee, sit," he said firmly, gently pushing her to sit down. Dawn hesitated but eventually obeyed, her legs dangling off the edge of the table.
"I told you, you didn’t have to bring me food in this weather!" Kenny scolded lightly, grabbing his stethoscope. "What were you thinking, trudging through all that snow?"
Dawn shrugged weakly, her lips trembling from the cold. "You’re busy, and you needed it. I didn’t want you to go hungry."
Kenny sighed, softening his tone as he placed the stethoscope on her chest. "Breathe in for me, Dawn. Nice and deep."
She took a shaky breath, her chest rising under the stethoscope.
"Good. Now out," Kenny instructed.
Dawn exhaled, and Kenny nodded. He moved the stethoscope around her back, repeating the process.
"Your lungs sound clear," Kenny murmured, setting the stethoscope aside. "But you’re freezing."
He grabbed an electronic thermometer and gently placed it under her tongue. Dawn blinked up at him as he crossed his arms, waiting for the reading.
After a few seconds, the thermometer beeped, and Kenny pulled it out to check the results. His frown deepened.
"Dawn, your temperature’s too low. You’re practically ice. What were you wearing outside?!"
Dawn avoided his gaze, mumbling, "Just my coat..."
Kenny groaned, walking over to a cabinet to grab a blanket. He returned, wrapping it snugly around her shoulders. "Dawn, you need to bundle up properly! This isn’t just a light snowfall—it’s a full-blown snowstorm out there!"
Dawn gave him a sheepish smile. "I just wanted to make sure you had a good lunch."
Kenny sighed again but couldn’t help the small smile creeping onto his face. "You’re ridiculous, you know that? Sweet, but ridiculous."
He grabbed a small handheld device to check her oxygen levels. "Give me your finger," he said. Dawn extended her hand, and he clipped the device onto her finger. After a moment, the numbers appeared on the screen.
"Okay, oxygen levels are fine," Kenny said, relieved. He set the device aside and crouched in front of her. "How are you feeling otherwise? Any dizziness, headaches, nausea?"
Dawn shook her head. "Just a little tired."
"That’s because you’re chilled to the bone," Kenny replied, standing up and grabbing the food bag she’d brought. "Stay here. I’m heating this up, and you’re eating with me. No arguments."
Dawn opened her mouth to protest, but the stern look Kenny gave her made her close it again.
"Fine," she muttered, pulling the blanket tighter around her.
Kenny smiled as he walked to the microwave in the breakroom. "Good. Now let me take care of you for a change."
