Frozen 🐧
Kenny shut the door behind them firmly, his face a mixture of concern and frustration. Dawn stumbled slightly as he guided her to the green-striped examination table.
"Dawn, what were you thinking?" he asked, his voice stern but laced with worry. "You could have gotten hurt out there in the snowstorm! You're soaking wet, and you're freezing!"
Dawn gave him a weak smile, her teeth chattering as she rubbed her arms. "I just... I knew you'd be hungry, and I didn’t want you to skip a meal... again."
Kenny sighed, running a hand through his auburn hair. "Dawn, as much as I appreciate the gesture, your safety is more important than my lunch. Sit down."
She blinked at him, hesitating. "But Kenny, I—"
"No 'buts,' Dawn," he interrupted, gently pressing her shoulders to guide her onto the table. "You’re shivering, and I’m not letting you leave until I’m sure you’re okay."
Dawn reluctantly obeyed, her cheeks flushed—partly from the cold and partly from embarrassment. She watched as Kenny grabbed a towel from a cabinet and draped it over her shoulders.
"Here," he said, his voice softening. "Dry off while I check your temperature."
Dawn tried to argue, "I’m fine, really—"
Kenny gave her a pointed look, cutting her off. "Dee Dee, you’re soaking wet and walked through a snowstorm to bring me food. Humor me."
She sighed, giving in, as he retrieved a thermometer and gently placed it under her tongue. While they waited, he grabbed a blanket from the closet and wrapped it around her shoulders, tucking it snugly.
The thermometer beeped, and Kenny frowned as he read the result. "Dawn, your temperature’s low. You’re bordering on hypothermia."
"I... I feel fine," she protested, though her trembling hands betrayed her.
Kenny crossed his arms, his gaze unwavering. "You’re staying here until you warm up. No arguments."
Dawn’s lips twitched into a small smile. "You’re so bossy, Kenny."
"And you’re so stubborn," he shot back, though his tone was fond. He grabbed his stethoscope and gently pressed it against her chest. "Deep breath in for me."
Dawn complied, her breath shaky.
"Again," Kenny said, his eyes narrowing slightly as he listened.
After a moment, he set the stethoscope aside and sighed. "Your lungs sound okay, but I don’t want to take any chances. You’re staying here until your body temperature stabilizes."
Dawn tilted her head, a playful smile tugging at her lips. "You’re really worried about me, huh?"
Kenny huffed, his ears turning pink. "Of course I am. You’re my girlfriend, Dawn. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn’t care?"
Her cheeks flushed deeper at his words, and she pulled the blanket tighter around herself. "Thanks, Kenny."
He smiled, sitting down on the stool beside her. "Don’t thank me yet. You’re drinking hot tea, and then you’re resting. No exceptions."
Dawn chuckled softly. "Yes, Doctor Kenny."
As he stood to prepare the tea, Dawn watched him with a warm smile, despite the cold still clinging to her. She might have braved a snowstorm to bring him lunch, but having Kenny fuss over her like this made it all worth it.
