Frozen- 🐧

Kenny smiled slightly as he looked out the window. " I love snow." He muttered.

The receptionist looked up and saw the young doctor at the window and smiled. " It is, isn't it?"

Kenny nodded, then sighed. " Though I don't think my girlfriend is gonna be able to bring me my food in this weather."

The receptionist gave him a reassuring smile. " Don't worry, you can have the snacks in the employee room."

Kenny nodded, and started to walk to the back, when the door slammed open. He walked backwards and gasped, running to the human who was panting on the ground.

" Dawn?! What are you doing here?!"

Dawn held up Kenny's bag. " Y... Your f...f...food."

Kenny took it and set it next to him on the ground, feeling her forehead. " Dawn, you didn't have to come in this weather!"

Dawn gave him a reassuring smile. " N... No n... Need t...to wor....ry...."

Kenny watched as she stood. " I won't ruin your break. See you a-"

She didn't get to take another step out the door.

Because Kenny grabbed her arm and dragged her to his examination room. " Oh no you don't."

Dawn blinked in confusion as Kenny pulled her into the examination room. She shivered, snowflakes melting into droplets on her jacket.

"Kenny, I’m fine," she insisted, though her teeth chattered.

Kenny closed the door behind them and crossed his arms, giving her a pointed look. "Dawn, you’re soaking wet, freezing, and panting like you just ran a marathon. That’s not fine."

Dawn tried to wave him off. "I just wanted to make sure you had your food. You’ve been working so hard, and—"

Kenny cut her off, gently guiding her to sit on the exam table. "I appreciate it, Dee Dee, but you should’ve stayed home where it’s warm. You could’ve called me to let me know instead of walking through a snowstorm."

Dawn shrugged sheepishly. "I wanted to surprise you."

Kenny sighed, though his lips twitched into a small smile. "You’re as stubborn as ever."

He grabbed a towel from the cabinet and began drying her hair. "First things first, let’s get you warmed up."

Dawn giggled softly under the towel. "You’re acting like I’m your patient or something."

Kenny paused, pulling the towel away to look her in the eye. "Right now, you are. And I’m prescribing a warm blanket and hot cocoa, stat."

Dawn playfully rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide her smile. "Doctor’s orders?"

"Exactly." Kenny grabbed a fleece blanket from a nearby closet and wrapped it snugly around her shoulders. He then handed her a cup of hot cocoa from his personal stash in the employee lounge.

Dawn sipped the drink, her cheeks flushed—partly from the warmth and partly from the way Kenny fussed over her.

"Better?" he asked, pulling a chair up next to her.

She nodded, feeling the tension in her body melt away. "Thanks, Kenny. I guess I was a little cold."

Kenny chuckled, shaking his head. "A little? You were practically an icicle."

Dawn pouted playfully. "Hey, I’m tougher than I look!"

He smirked, leaning closer. "I know you are, Dee Dee. But that doesn’t mean you have to prove it by braving a snowstorm to bring me lunch."

Dawn ducked her head, embarrassed. "I just wanted to see you."

Kenny’s expression softened, and he gently tilted her chin up. "And I’m glad you did. But next time, call me, okay? I’ll come to you."

Dawn nodded, her heart fluttering at the tenderness in his voice. "Okay, I promise."

"Good," Kenny said, standing up and grabbing the bag she’d brought. "Now, since you went through all this trouble, we might as well enjoy this food together."

Dawn grinned as she watched him set up their impromptu meal on the counter. Despite the storm outside, she felt warm and safe in Kenny’s care.
