Dee Dee gets a shot
Dawn clung tightly to Bella, burying her face into the stuffed bunny’s soft fur as Kenny held her close. His warmth, his steady breathing, and his gentle rocking all worked together to ease the tremors in her hands.
“It’s okay, Dee Dee… I got you,” he murmured, pressing a light kiss to the top of her head.
Dawn whimpered, her grip tightening around Bella. “I-I don’t wanna do this…”
Kenny rubbed soothing circles on her back, his voice as soft as a whisper. “I know, Dee Dee. But I promise, I’ll be as gentle as I can. You trust me, don’t you?”
Dawn hesitated but then nodded slowly against his chest. “More than anyone.”
Kenny smiled, resting his chin on her head. “Then just focus on me, alright? I’ll take care of everything.”
Dawn took a shaky breath and nodded again. Kenny pulled back slightly, brushing a few strands of hair from her face before gently guiding her to lie down on the examination table. He grabbed a small pillow and placed it behind her for support.
"Deep breaths," he encouraged, squeezing her hand. "You’re my brave girl, Dee Dee."
Dawn’s fingers curled into his palm as she watched him roll up the fabric of her dress to expose her knee. Her breath hitched when she saw the needle in his hand, but Kenny immediately shifted, placing his free hand on her cheek.
"Hey, eyes on me, okay?" he said softly. "Not the needle, just me."
Dawn swallowed hard but obeyed, locking onto his warm brown eyes.
“Good girl,” he praised with a smile, and Dawn’s face heated slightly at the compliment.
Kenny swabbed the area near her knee with alcohol, the cool sensation making her flinch slightly. He gave her hand another squeeze.
“Alright, Dee Dee. I’m gonna count down from three. Before you know it, it’ll be over.”
Dawn sucked in a breath, gripping Bella tight. “Okay…”
“Three…” Kenny’s voice was calm and even.
Dawn squeezed her eyes shut, bracing herself.
“Two…”
Her breathing quickened, and she clenched her jaw.
Before she could hear “one,” a tiny pinch registered on her leg, barely enough to make her flinch.
“Wait… that was it?” she gasped, blinking up at Kenny.
Kenny chuckled, carefully pulling the needle out and placing a small blue bandage over the injection site. “Yup. All done.”
Dawn stared at him, then at her knee, and then back at him. “But… but I didn’t even feel it that much!”
Kenny winked. “Told you I’d help it hurt less.”
Dawn’s lips parted in disbelief, but then she let out a shaky laugh. Relief flooded through her as she collapsed against Kenny’s chest, still holding Bella close.
"You tricked me," she mumbled, pressing her face into his shoulder.
Kenny grinned, rubbing her back. "Nah, I just know my Dee Dee."
Dawn sighed, her body finally relaxing as she melted into his embrace. Kenny rocked her gently once more, his fingers playing with the ends of her hair.
"See?" he murmured. "No need to worry."
Dawn huffed. "I’m still never doing that again."
Kenny chuckled. "We’ll see about that."
Dawn trembled slightly in Kenny's arms, her fingers digging into Bella's worn fabric. The familiar softness of the stuffed bunny soothed her nerves, but she still felt that lingering fear twisting in her stomach.
Kenny pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head. "You're okay, Dee Dee. I got you," he whispered, his voice warm and comforting. "Just hold on to Bella, and we'll be done before you know it."
Dawn whimpered, burying her face into his chest. "I don't wanna look."
"You don't have to," Kenny reassured her, rubbing small circles on her back. "Just focus on me, okay?"
She nodded weakly, gripping onto his scrub top like a lifeline.
Kenny reached over to the tray, grabbing the alcohol swab. "I'm just cleaning the spot first," he told her, his voice soft and steady. He gently lifted the fabric of her dress just above her knee, exposing the smooth skin of her leg. Dawn squeezed her eyes shut, her breath shaky as she felt the cold swipe of the alcohol pad.
"Cold," she muttered, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I know," Kenny said with a small chuckle. "But that just means it's working."
Dawn clenched Bella tighter, her knuckles turning white. Kenny took a quick glance at her, making sure she was still pressed against his chest before he carefully uncapped the syringe. He exhaled softly, positioning it just right.
"This is the part you don’t like, but I promise I’ll be quick," he murmured, his free hand rubbing her back soothingly. "Take a deep breath for me, Dee Dee."
Dawn did as he said, sucking in a sharp breath and squeezing her eyes shut.
And then, in one smooth motion, Kenny inserted the needle into her leg just near her knee.
Dawn let out a tiny squeak, her hands tightening on Bella and Kenny’s scrubs. Kenny felt her tense up instantly, so he wrapped his arm more securely around her, holding her close.
"Almost done, sweetheart," he whispered.
She whimpered, pressing her forehead against his collarbone, her breathing quick and uneven.
Kenny was fast, precise—just as he promised. Within seconds, he gently pulled the needle out, pressing a soft piece of gauze to the spot before quickly placing the blue bandaid over it.
"Done," he murmured, his voice full of warmth. "You did amazing, Dee Dee."
Dawn let out a shaky breath but didn’t move. She stayed curled up in his arms, her body trembling slightly.
Kenny smiled softly and kissed her hair again. "You're okay, Dee Dee. I’ve got you."
Dawn sniffled, still holding onto Bella like her life depended on it. "...It still hurt," she whispered.
"I know," Kenny said, rocking her gently. "But I'm so proud of you. You did great."
Dawn pulled back slightly, her eyes still glossy with tears, but there was a small, wobbly smile on her face. "Really?"
"Really," Kenny said, cupping her cheek with his gloved hand. "Strongest girl I know."
Dawn let out a tiny giggle, rubbing at her eyes. "You always say that."
"Because it's true." Kenny smirked before leaning down to press a soft kiss to her forehead. "And because you're my Dee Dee."
Dawn smiled shyly, finally loosening her grip on Bella. "Can we stay like this for a bit?"
Kenny chuckled, pulling her back into his arms. "As long as you want, sweetheart."
And so they stayed there, Dawn curled into Kenny’s chest, feeling safe, loved, and—despite the lingering sting on her leg—completely okay.
Dawn felt her breathing slow as she melted into Kenny’s embrace. His arms were warm, steady, and secure, wrapping around her like a shield against the fear that gripped her. She could hear the rhythmic thumping of his heart against her ear, and it was oddly comforting.
Kenny rested his chin on the top of her head, swaying them gently. “That’s my girl… just breathe, okay?” he murmured.
Dawn squeezed Bella tighter, taking a shaky breath. “I hate needles, Kenny…”
“I know, Dee Dee,” he whispered. “But I’m here. You trust me, don’t you?”
Dawn nodded against his chest. She did. More than anyone.
Kenny gently loosened his hold on her. “Okay, sweetheart, I need you to sit still for me now, alright?”
Dawn sniffled but obeyed, shifting so she was sitting properly on the table. She watched as Kenny reached for a small alcohol wipe, tearing the packet open with practiced ease.
“This is gonna be a little cold,” he warned, before gently wiping the area just above her knee.
Dawn flinched at the sensation, clutching Bella tighter. “I’m scared…”
Kenny met her gaze, his eyes soft but reassuring. “I got you, Dee Dee. Just look at me, okay? Keep your eyes on me.”
Dawn swallowed hard, locking eyes with him as he picked up the syringe.
“Alright,” Kenny said, his voice calm and even, “on three. One…”
Before she could even register what was happening, Dawn felt the tiniest pinch in her leg. She gasped, but the pain was… not as bad as she’d expected.
“Wait—” she blinked, eyes wide. “You didn’t say two and three—”
Kenny grinned. “That’s because it’s already done.”
Dawn stared at him, then at her leg, where the needle was already out. He was pressing a soft cotton ball against the spot, holding it gently.
“That was it?” she breathed.
“That was it,” Kenny confirmed, reaching for the blue bandaid and carefully placing it over the injection site. “And you were so brave, Dee Dee. I’m proud of you.”
Dawn let out a breath she didn’t know she’d been holding, relief washing over her like a wave. She felt a little embarrassed for all the worrying she had done, but before she could dwell on it, Kenny pulled her into another hug.
“See?” he whispered against her hair. “Told you it wasn’t so bad.”
Dawn huffed, though she was smiling now. “I still don’t like it…”
Kenny chuckled. “I know. But you did amazing.”
Dawn sighed, resting her head on his shoulder. “Thanks, Kenny… for being here. For knowing what I need.”
Kenny kissed the top of her head, his voice full of fondness. “Always, Dee Dee.”
Dawn clung to Bella, her fingers gripping the soft plush as if it were her lifeline. She buried her face in Kenny’s shoulder, her breaths shaky, heart still hammering in her chest.
“Shhh… that’s my girl…” Kenny murmured, gently rocking her. “It’s okay, Dee Dee. It’s okay…”
Dawn sniffled, nodding weakly against him, but deep down, she was still terrified. The moment Kenny moved, she stiffened, squeezing Bella even tighter.
“Alright,” Kenny said softly, pulling away just enough to look her in the eyes. “I’ll be quick, I promise. Just keep hugging Bella and focus on me, okay?”
Dawn hesitated, then gave the smallest nod. “O-Okay…”
Kenny smiled reassuringly, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face before moving to prepare the syringe. Dawn couldn’t watch. She shut her eyes tightly, holding her stuffed bunny close to her chest.
“Alright, Dee Dee, deep breaths,” Kenny instructed, positioning himself at her side. He placed a comforting hand on her thigh, just above the spot he needed, before quickly sanitizing the area. “Just relax… I got you.”
Dawn tried, she really did. But the second she felt the cold wipe against her skin, her muscles locked up.
Kenny noticed. “Dawn, you have to relax, or this is gonna hurt more than it should,” he said gently, rubbing small circles on her knee. “I’ll be done in a second. You trust me, right?”
Dawn swallowed hard. “… I trust you.”
Kenny smiled. “Then just keep breathing.”
He adjusted the syringe in his hand, angling it carefully. “Alright, here we go—”
But just as the needle touched her skin—
Dawn tensed up.
Her entire leg jerked instinctively, and—
Snap.
A sharp pain shot through her leg as the needle bent awkwardly, still half-inserted.
“Ahhh!” Dawn cried out, clutching Bella tightly.
Kenny cursed under his breath. “Oh, man—okay, okay, don’t move, Dee Dee,” he said quickly, already reaching for a fresh pair of gloves. “I need to pull this out, just stay still—”
But Dawn wasn’t listening—her leg was throbbing, and tears were freely running down her cheeks. “Kenny! It hurts!”
“I know, I know, I’m sorry,” Kenny soothed, his hands steady despite his own panic. “Just hold onto me, Dee Dee. We’ll fix this, okay?”
Dawn whimpered, but she didn’t resist when Kenny gently pressed one hand to her thigh to steady her, his other carefully removing the bent needle.
The second it was out, he pressed gauze over the spot, applying gentle pressure.
“You’re okay,” Kenny said softly, running a hand over her back. “It’s over, I promise. I just need to clean it up.”
Dawn hiccupped between sniffles, her face still buried against his chest. “T-That was awful…”
Kenny let out a small chuckle, rubbing soothing circles on her back. “Yeah, it kinda was, huh?” He leaned down to kiss the top of her head. “But you still did great, Dee Dee.”
Dawn pouted. “I don’t feel great.”
Kenny smirked. “How about this—next time, please don’t tense up at the last second?”
Dawn groaned dramatically, snuggling deeper into his chest. “No promises.”
Kenny chuckled, still holding her close. “Yeah, I figured.”
Dawn clutched Bella tighter, her fingers digging into the worn plush fabric as Kenny gently rocked her in his arms. His warmth, his steady heartbeat against her back—it was comforting. But even as he whispered reassurances in her ear, her fear remained.
Kenny pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head before shifting back. “Alright, Dee Dee, you ready?”
Dawn inhaled sharply. “N-no…”
Kenny chuckled softly. “That’s okay. Just keep holding Bella, alright?”
Dawn nodded, gripping her stuffed bunny as if it were her lifeline.
Kenny hopped off the examination table and grabbed a small alcohol wipe from the tray. “I’m gonna clean the area first, okay?”
Dawn gave a tiny nod, eyes squeezing shut. She didn’t want to see anything.
The cold swipe of the alcohol made her jolt slightly, but Kenny’s free hand was on her thigh, grounding her. “Almost done, Dee Dee,” he murmured, rubbing small circles with his thumb.
Dawn whimpered, bracing herself.
Kenny reached for the syringe, tapping it lightly before bringing it toward her knee. “Alright, I’m inserting it now. Deep breaths, okay?”
Dawn sucked in air and held Bella tighter.
The needle touched her skin—
And right as Kenny went to push it in, Dawn tensed.
Too late.
The sharp, unexpected pain shot up her leg, and suddenly—
“AHH!” Dawn yelped, jerking instinctively.
Kenny cursed as the needle shifted at a bad angle. “Whoa, Dee Dee—stay still!”
But it was too late. The movement had caused the needle to scrape painfully under her skin before Kenny could adjust, and Dawn let out a strangled yelp, eyes going wide in panic.
“Okay, okay! I got it, I got it!” Kenny reassured, quickly pulling the needle out safely and grabbing a cotton ball to press against her leg.
Dawn was shaking, her grip on Bella tightening to the point where her knuckles turned white. “Owww!” she whined, tears finally spilling over. “Kenny, that hurt!”
Kenny sighed, feeling guilt settle in his chest. “I told you to relax, Dee Dee,” he muttered, rubbing the side of her thigh comfortingly while still applying pressure to the injection site.
“I tried,” Dawn sniffled, rubbing her eyes. “B-but my stupid leg moved on its own!”
Kenny shook his head fondly, leaning forward to kiss her forehead. “It’s okay, Dee Dee. You’re okay.”
Dawn pouted at him, still teary-eyed. “That was the worst shot ever.”
Kenny chuckled, finally letting go of her leg and reaching for the blue band-aid. “I know, I know. But someone decided to make it harder than it had to be.”
Dawn huffed, watching as he gently placed the band-aid over the injection spot.
“All done,” Kenny announced, pulling off his gloves and tossing them in the bin.
Dawn sniffled again, looking at him with big, watery eyes. “… I think you owe me something.”
Kenny smirked. “Oh yeah? And what would that be?”
Dawn crossed her arms dramatically. “Cuddles. Lots of them.”
Kenny laughed, easily pulling her back into his arms. “You drive a hard bargain, Dee Dee,” he murmured, holding her close. “But I think I can manage that.”
Dawn sighed into his chest, still sniffling but finally starting to relax. “… You better.”
Dawn buried her face into Kenny’s chest, her arms clutching Bella tightly. The steady rhythm of his breathing, the warmth of his embrace—it was enough to slow the frantic beating of her heart just a little. But not enough to stop the fear entirely.
Kenny gently stroked her hair, murmuring soft reassurances. “It’s okay, Dee Dee. I promise, I’ll be quick. You won’t even notice.”
Dawn let out a shaky breath, nodding against him. “You’re the only one I’d trust to do this,” she admitted in a whisper.
Kenny chuckled, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “That’s why I’m here, right?”
Reluctantly, she let go of him, though her fingers still trembled as she adjusted her grip on Bella. Kenny gave her a reassuring smile before rolling up her dress slightly to expose her leg.
“Alright, I’m gonna clean the area first, okay?” he warned gently, taking a disinfectant wipe and swiping it over her skin near her knee. Dawn shivered at the cool sensation, squeezing her eyes shut.
“You’re doing great,” Kenny encouraged, reaching for the syringe. “Just keep holding onto Bella.”
Dawn gripped the stuffed bunny even tighter, pressing it against her chest. She could hear the rustling of Kenny’s gloves, the slight clink of the needle against the tray. Her stomach churned.
“Almost there,” Kenny reassured. “Just a small pinch.”
She flinched as she felt the sharp tip graze her skin. At the last second, panic seized her, and before she could stop herself, she tensed her leg—hard.
And that was a mistake.
Kenny barely had time to react before the needle, instead of going in smoothly, jerked against the sudden resistance. The sharp sting flared into something much worse as the needle scraped at an odd angle.
“AHHHH—KENNY!” Dawn shrieked, jerking away.
“Whoa—Dawn, hold still!” Kenny yelped, quickly stabilizing her leg with his free hand before she made it even worse. His heart leapt into his throat as he adjusted the needle, his grip steady despite her struggling.
“Ow ow ow ow owwwww!” Dawn wailed, her entire body trembling as she clutched Bella for dear life.
“Dawn, breathe,” Kenny commanded, his voice still gentle but firm. “I’ve got you, just don’t move.”
She whimpered, tears brimming in her eyes, but she obeyed, forcing herself to take a shaky breath as she buried her face into Bella’s worn fur. Kenny’s movements were quick but precise as he adjusted the needle properly and administered the injection.
“There we go,” he murmured, his voice soothing. “All done.”
Dawn sniffled, wiping at her teary eyes as she slowly dared to peek. “That… sucked,” she muttered, her voice hoarse.
Kenny chuckled, pressing a small blue bandaid over the injection site. “Yeah, well, maybe next time don’t tense your leg like you’re bracing for a hurricane.”
Dawn groaned, flopping dramatically back onto the table. “I tried to stay still! My leg had other plans!”
Kenny smirked, gently rubbing her knee. “Well, I still think you were really brave, Dee Dee.” He leaned down and kissed her forehead. “Next time, I’ll make sure Bella is in prime snuggling position before we start, yeah?”
Dawn huffed but nodded, still pouting. “Yeah. But I still hate needles.”
Kenny grinned. “Noted.” Then, with a teasing glint in his eye, he added, “Guess I’ll just have to be your personal doctor for life, huh?”
Dawn’s cheeks turned pink, and she smacked his arm. “Oh, shut up, Kenny.” But even as she grumbled, a small smile tugged at her lips.
Dawn’s grip on Bella tightened as Kenny continued to rock her gently. His warmth, his steady breathing, and the familiar scent of his cologne did wonders to soothe her nerves—at least a little. But she knew what was coming, and no amount of comfort could completely erase her fear.
Kenny pulled back slightly, looking into her teary blue eyes. “Alright, Dee Dee,” he murmured, brushing some of her bangs out of her face. “You ready?”
Dawn hesitated but slowly nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat. “N-No…”
Kenny chuckled. “That’s okay,” he assured her. “Just hold onto Bella, and I promise I’ll make this quick.”
Dawn bit her lip, her fingers digging into the stuffed bunny. She wanted to be brave, she really did, but the sight of Kenny rolling up her dress just enough to expose her thigh made her heart race.
“This spot will be the easiest,” Kenny explained gently, swabbing the area with an alcohol wipe. “It’s over before you know it.”
Dawn’s whole body stiffened at the cold sensation on her skin. Her breaths became rapid, and she squeezed her eyes shut, bracing herself. “Just do it,” she whispered, clutching Bella tighter.
Kenny gave her knee a small, reassuring pat before reaching for the syringe. “Okay, Dee Dee. Deep breath.”
Dawn inhaled sharply through her nose as Kenny positioned the needle just right.
But then—at the absolute last second—she panicked.
Her leg tensed up hard.
“Wait—!”
Too late.
The second the needle pierced her skin, her sudden flinch sent it jabbing in at a bad angle.
“AHHHHH!!” Dawn shrieked, jerking violently.
Kenny immediately yanked the needle out, eyes wide. “Whoa, Dee Dee! You okay?!”
Dawn clutched her leg, tears spilling freely down her cheeks. “Ow, ow, ow!! Kenny, that hurt!!” she wailed, shaking slightly.
Kenny grimaced. “Oh, Dawn…” He sighed, rubbing the back of his head. “I told you to relax your leg…”
“I tried!” Dawn snapped, still sniffling. “But my body didn’t listen!”
Kenny reached out, gently prying her hands away from her leg to assess the damage. A small bead of blood was forming where the needle had gone in. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either.
“Okay, okay,” he murmured, keeping his voice calm. “It’s alright. I’ll clean it up, and we’ll try again.”
Dawn’s eyes widened in horror. “A-Again?!”
Kenny smiled sheepishly. “Uh… yeah. You still need the shot, Dee Dee.”
Dawn groaned, hiding her face in Bella. “Kenny, I hate this…”
“I know,” Kenny said softly, stroking her hair. “But I promise, this time I’ll make sure it really doesn’t hurt, okay?”
Dawn peeked up at him, sniffling. “…How?”
Kenny smirked. “Simple. You’re gonna hold onto me extra tight, and I won’t do it until you say you’re ready.”
Dawn hesitated before slowly nodding. “O-Okay…”
Kenny wiped away her tears and kissed her forehead. “That’s my brave girl.”
Dawn buried her face into Kenny’s chest, squeezing Bella tightly as he gently rocked her. His warmth, his voice, and the rhythmic motion made her feel a little less like she was on the verge of breaking down.
"Shhh… That’s my girl," Kenny murmured, stroking her back. "You’re safe, Dee Dee. Just breathe."
She took in a shaky breath, her fingers clutching his sleeve. "You… You’re really gonna do it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kenny nodded against her. "Yeah, but don’t worry. I’ll be quick. You trust me, right?"
Dawn gulped. Did she trust Kenny? Absolutely. But did she trust the needle? Not one bit.
Still, she hesitated before giving a tiny nod. "I trust you…"
Kenny smiled softly, pulling away just enough to look her in the eyes. "Okay then, Dee Dee. Just keep holding Bella, and I promise I’ll make this as easy as possible."
Dawn gave him a shaky nod, hugging Bella to her chest.
Kenny took the syringe from the tray, making sure it was ready. "Alright, I’ll do it on your leg, okay? Near your knee. You won’t even have to look."
Dawn squeezed her eyes shut. "O-Okay…"
Kenny gently rested a hand on her thigh. "Alright, deep breath in…"
Dawn inhaled, her grip on Bella tightening.
"Good… Now exhale," Kenny instructed, his voice soothing.
She let the breath out, trembling slightly. That was when Kenny moved, swiftly and expertly inserting the needle.
Everything was fine for a split second—until Dawn panicked.
Her body reacted on instinct. Right as the needle went in, her leg tensed—hard.
Kenny's eyes widened. "Dawn, no—"
Too late.
Her sudden movement caused the needle to press in at an awkward angle, and pain shot up her leg like lightning.
"OW!" Dawn yelped, her whole body jerking.
"Whoa, whoa, don’t move!" Kenny exclaimed, quickly steadying her leg with one hand while holding the syringe with the other.
Dawn whimpered, eyes squeezed shut, gripping Bella like a lifeline. "K-Kenny, it hurts!"
Kenny cursed under his breath. He had trained for this—knew how to handle patients who tensed—but this was Dawn.
His Dawn.
And seeing her in pain made his heart ache.
"Okay, okay, just relax for me, Dee Dee," Kenny soothed, his voice calm despite the slight panic in his chest. "I need you to take deep breaths. The more you tense, the worse it’ll be."
Dawn was already breathing fast, bordering on hyperventilating. Her fingers dug into his sleeve. "I-I can’t—Kenny, take it out!"
"I will, I promise, but you need to calm down first, alright? I don’t wanna hurt you more."
She whimpered again but forced herself to take a deep breath. Kenny gave her thigh a reassuring squeeze. "Good girl. Just a little more."
Carefully, gently, he adjusted the needle so it was back at the right angle, all while whispering reassurances. "Almost done… almost done, Dee Dee, you’re doing so good."
Dawn let out a shaky breath, keeping her leg as still as possible.
And then—it was over.
Kenny smoothly pulled the needle out and pressed a soft cotton pad over the area. "Done," he announced. "That’s it, Dee Dee. You did it."
Dawn, still clutching Bella, peeked one eye open. "I-It’s over?"
Kenny grinned, his relief obvious. "Yup. Told ya I’d make it quick."
She blinked at him before puffing her cheeks out. "Liar. That hurt."
Kenny laughed, shaking his head. "Yeah, well, maybe next time don’t tense up and try to kick me?"
Dawn groaned, hiding her face in Bella. "I panicked!"
Kenny chuckled, patting her head. "I know, Dee Dee. But hey, it’s over now. You survived."
Dawn peeked up at him, still pouting but looking less distressed. "...Can I get a reward for surviving?"
Kenny smirked. "What kinda reward are we talking about?"
Dawn sniffled dramatically. "I think… I need a hug. And… ice cream. Maybe a kiss, too."
Kenny laughed, shaking his head. "Oh, so now I’m bribing you to get your shots?"
"Yes," Dawn deadpanned. "And I expect my payment immediately."
Kenny rolled his eyes but opened his arms. "Come here, you big baby."
Dawn didn’t hesitate, practically launching herself at him, burying her face in his chest. He wrapped his arms around her tightly, rocking her slightly just like before.
"Shhh… that’s my girl," he murmured, kissing the top of her head. "Told you it wouldn’t be so bad."
Dawn grumbled into his shirt. "I still hate needles."
Kenny chuckled. "Yeah, yeah. But hey, at least you had me, right?"
Dawn pulled back slightly, giving him a small, sheepish smile. "Yeah… thanks, Kenny."
Kenny winked. "Anytime, Dee Dee. Now, let’s go get you that ice cream, huh?"
Dawn beamed. "Now that’s something I’m not scared of!"
