Chapter 21 - The Town's Water Crisis!
Light filtered through the window on reached where I was sleeping. I opened my eyes reluctantly, blinking rapidly from the bright sunlight.
"Morning," Emily greeted, already up with Cyndaquil on her shoulder.
"Quil!" Cyndaquil said.
"Good morning," I yawned, pulling the pillow over my head. "I'm going back to sleep."
"Wake up, it's already past 10am," Emily sighed. "Stop being a lazy Snorlax!"
"Just a few more minutes," I groaned.
Just before I drifted back to sleep, Emily snatched away my pillow and a jet of water was sprayed on my face.
"Fine," I reluctantly got up from my bed.
"Thanks Wooper," Emily smiled. "Return."
"Wooper!" it did a little jump before being returned to its Pokeball.
I turned to check on Kabuto. It was stirring, but it didn't get out of the bag. I grabbed the bag and my Pokeballs, ensuring that I didn't leave anything behind.
"Let's head to the gym," I said.
We walked out of the room and I noticed that Nurse Joy looked worried.
"What's wrong, Nurse Joy?" Emily asked.
"One of the town's water supply is cut off and some of my patients need water urgently," she explained. "I got some nice trainers to help bring water from the Slowpoke well but it's taking too long."
"What's the town's water supply?" I asked, wanting to confirm my suspicions.
"One of them is the lake nearby here," Nurse Joy replied. "Could you help me get some water for the sick Pokemon?"
"Sure," Emily said quickly.
"We will get as much as we can," I added.
"Thank you!" Nurse Joy said. "Sorry for all the trouble."
"It's no problem really," Emily reassured her. I nodded.
When we walked out of the Pokemon centre, an icy wind hit us. I sneezed and said, "I think it's coming from the lake. I will check it out."
"Okay," Emily agreed. "I will be at the Slowpoke well if you need me."
"Got it!" I ran towards the lake.
Many people were there, watching from a distance. Officer Jenny was trying to usher the crowd away from the lake.
I frowned. The lake was still frozen from last night. It barely thawed.
"Please stand back!" I heard Officer Jenny's voice over a loudspeaker. "We will find out the problem and have everything back to normal as soon as possible."
"Officer Jenny?" I spoke up, walking closer to where she was standing. "Can I help?"
"It is dangerous," she said firmly. "A Sharpedo lives here and is very hostile."
"I'll be careful," I tried convincing her. "And I don't think a Pokemon would attack for no reason. I will find the blockage and be back soon."
"Do you have any Water type Pokemon?" Officer Jenny asked. "The blockage might be underwater."
"Well..." I hesitated. "Hold on."

I returned soon after with the Lanturn I helped yesterday. I had asked the Light Pokemon for help and it agreed readily.
"Be careful," Officer Jenny said. "If there's any trouble, tell me immediately."
"Okay," I replied.
Turning towards the lake, I carefully put Lanturn into the water. "Do you know where the blockage might be?" I asked. "You know the lake better than I do."
"Lanturn!" it swam off in a random direction.
I had to run to follow it. Honestly, I didn't expect it to swim so fast.
The Water and Electric type Pokemon stopped suddenly, nearly splashing water in my face.
I jumped backwards, avoiding most of the water but my shirt still got wet. "Did you find it?" I asked.
"Lan," Lanturn waved its right fin towards a river.
The river was blocked by huge chucks of ice that showed no sign of melting. Only a few drops of water remained in the river.
"That's terrible!" I exclaimed. "Almost all the water is gone."
"Lanturn!" Lanturn said.
"Did you accidentally freeze the lake?" I questioned, my curiosity getting the best of me.
"Lan, lanturn!" the Light Pokemon was speaking so rapidly that I couldn't understand what it was trying to say.
"Did a trainer's Pokemon attack you?" I asked instead.
The question made Lanturn very agitated. Is it a yes or a no? I wondered uneasily.
Suddenly, a strange robotic hand grabbed Lanturn and had it trapped in a small, clear sphere.
"Who did that?" I shouted, facing the ones who were attempting to steal Lanturn.
"Prepar-" a man began to say, but his other companion interrupted him.
"Stop saying that! I'm getting sick of that introduction, you dimwit!" she yelled from on top a hot air balloon.
"Hey! Aren't you two the ones who tried stealing my Pokemon?" I shouted angrily over their argument.
"Well, well, well, isn't that one of the twerps that needed rescuing?" Vivi said mockingly.
"I'm pretty sure that is the one," the other person comfirmed.
I felt my anger rising. "Who are you to steal Pokemon anyways?" I yelled.
"We are Vivi and Jake, the elite members of the most infamous group in the world, Team Asteroid!" they claimed.
"Really?" I snorted. "Funny, because I never heard of you."
"How dare you insult us?" Vivi fumed.
"Nevermind that, we need to take this rare Pokemon to our boss," Jake tried convincing her.
"I don't care!" she snapped. "This twerp is going to pay for this! Diggersby, show who's boss by using Mud Shot!"
There's no time to send out one of my Pokemon! I thought, my eyes widening in shock as I braced myself for the impact of the attack.
The next thing I knew, a black figure blocked the attack, causing an explosion.
It was definitely a Pokemon. After taking the blow, it landed into the water, sending waves of water flying.
When it settled, I realised that the Pokemon that blocked the attack was Sharpedo.
I stood rooted to the ground in surprise, too shocked to say anything.
"We should really go now," Jake said a bit nervously.
Unfortunately for them, Sharpedo wasn't going to let them escape. It launched itself towards Team Asteroid's balloon using Aqua Jet - I think - and making a hole in it using Slash.
Their balloon fell onto the lakeside - opposite of where I was standing - with a crash.
I carefully slid down the dried up river and climbed back up to reach Team Asteroid.
I spotted Lanturn's cage near the crash site but Jake beat me to getting it.
"There's no way you will get this Pokemon!" he said, holding it protectively.
"You will have to fight us for it," Vivi said challengingly.
"Then, a fight we shall have," I said, putting my hand on one of my Pokeballs.
