Chapter 2 - A New Companion
I stared deeply into the Salamence's eyes. Chikorita stood in between me and the Salamence protectively.
"Chi!" Chikorita used a Razor Leaf attack on it, but it barely did a thing.
Chikorita tried to tackle it next, but the Salamence swiped it away with an angry growl.
"Chikorita!" I cried.
"Broar!" Salamence was readying an attack - on Chikorita!
"Stop!" I shouted, standing in front of Chikorita, who looked hurt. "I wouldn't let you attack my Pokemon!"
The Salamence stopped - surprisingly - and it let out another growl before flying away.
I immediately got up and rushed over to Chikorita. "Are you okay?" I asked anxiously.
"Chi...ko," Chikorita tried to sound strong, but it was obviously injured.
"I got to bring you to the Pokemon centre quickly," I decided, carrying Chikorita in my hands gently and running as fast as I can to the nearest Pokemon centre.
As I ran, I couldn't help but think why the Salamence stopped attacking. A thought struck me, but I focused on much more important things - like getting Chikorita to the Pokemon centre fast.
"Nurse Joy!" I yelled, brusting into the Pokémon center, and at the same time startling the people in the Pokemon center. "Please help my Pokemon!"
Nurse Joy rushed over from where she was working at the counter to check Chikorita's condition.
"Chansey, bring this injured Pokemon to the emergency room, quickly," Nurse Joy said calmly.
Turning to me, she said, "Don't worry, your Chikorita will be feeling better in no time."
Those words comforted me - a little at least. I watched as Chansey pushed the cart into the emergency room.
Chikorita, please be okay...
I sat down on the one of the seats in the Pokemon centre, lost in thought. My thoughts drifted to the incident that happened a few minutes ago.
Could it be that same Salamence?
Instead of worrying myself more by thinking about the incident, I headed to the computer to call my mother. She must be worried about me.
Her familiar face appeared on the screen. "So, how's your journey so far? I see you have already reached the Pokemon center," she said, wearing the same smile she gave me that morning.
"Yeah," I replied, avoiding the fact that my Chikorita got injured in its first day with me.
"Are you okay?" my mother's voice was soft with concern. "You seem very ruffled, as if you just met a hostile wild Pokemon."
"It was nothing," I lied, feeling a little guilty about it.
"I see," she said, unaware that I was lying. "By the way, your grandparents wanted to talk to you. They should be calling the Pokemon centre soon. They told me that they have a gift for you."
"Okay, bye mum. Hopefully I can call you soon," I said.
"Bye, be safe," she smiled, disconnecting from the computer.
I sighed. At the same time, I wondered what gift my grandparents wanted to give me.
Soon, the kind and happy faces of my grandparents appeared on the screen. "Hello!" my grandmother said, her words so steady and loud, that it was hard to believe that she is old enough to be my grandmother. "You have grown so much since we have seen you!"
"We heard you were going on your journey," my grandfather said, his voice just as strong as my grandmother's. "So, we decided to give you a gift. We will send it to the Pokémon center and Nurse Joy will hand it to you."
"We hope you enjoy it!" my grandmother smiled.
"Thank you for going through the trouble of giving me a gift. What is it?" I asked.
"You can see for yourself," my grandfather replied. "Being the smart girl you are, you can probably guess what it is! Anyway, me and your grandmother have to go now!"
Before I would thank them again for the gift, they disconnected from the computer.
I switched my thoughts to think what gift they are sending me. They are Pokemon breeders, so they must be sending me an egg!
I heard the sound of a Pokémon pushing a cart and I turned around. "Your Chikorita is fully healed and is feeling great," Nurse Joy said to me.
"Chi!" Chikorita leaped into my arms.
"Chikorita, I'm so glad that you are alright," I whispered, hugging it gently.
"Your grandparents have also asked me to hand you this," Nurse Joy added, giving a wrapped package to me.
Without hesitation, Chikorita and I ripped open the package. I gasped as I saw a beautifully shaped egg.
"Chikorita!" Chikorita tapped at the side of the transparent container.
I have seen it many times when I visited my grandparents. My grandmother would gladly show me around, including letting me see the eggs of the Pokémon.
"Who do you think it is, Chikorita?" I asked as I sat down on the seats.
"Chi," Chikorita replied.
"Well, we should be able to find out what Pokémon it is soon," I said. "It looks like it's going to hatch."
Suddenly, a blue nose poked put of the egg. My eyes widened with delight as the Pokémon slowly break its own egg in attempt to get out.
"Phanpy, phan!" the Pokémon brust out of its egg and raised its small truck.
"It's a Phanpy!" I said happily.
