Chapter 13 - Missing Fire

The next day, I grabbed my Pokeballs from Nurse Joy and headed out of the Pokemon centre, where Emily was waiting for me.

As usual, her Cyndaquil was in her bag, his head poking out of the bag.

"Quil!" Cyndaquil said in greeting.

"Good morning Cyndaquil," I said before turning to Emily.

"I think I remember the way to Azalea Town. I've been there before, when I was younger," I told her.

"Sure, lead the way," Emily said. "Don't worry if we get lost, I still have a map."

I nodded and we set off towards my next gym battle.

It wasn't long until we encountered a forest. I scratched my head, trying to remember where to go next.

"Can I see the map?" I asked.

"Here," Emily handed it to me.

After looking at the map for a while, I turned back to Emily with a sheepish smile.

"Don't tell me-" she began.

"Yes, we are lost," I finished.

"When was the last time you visited Azalea Town?" Emily sighed.

"Two years ago," I replied. "But I have a bad memory."

"What can you remember that is helpful?" she asked. "Or another option is that we could walk around and see where our luck takes us to."

"I remember!" I exclaimed. "Salamence knows the way as well!"

I quickly sent out the Dragon Pokemon. "Can you remember how to get to Azalea Town?" I asked.

Salamence gave me a questioning look.

"You know, the place that I went to when I was younger," I said, hoping that Salamence would understand what I was saying.

"No offense, but at this rate, we will not reach our destination," Emily pointed out.

Salamence suddenly took off into the sky. "I think Salamence knows the way!" I called, running after my Pokemon.

I was so focused on following Salamence that I didn't notice a tiny rock in front of me.

I tripped and fell into a lake. Instantly, I quickly searched for the container that held the Pokemon egg.

I sighed in relief as I spotted the container floating nearby. I tried swimming towards it - I never tried swimming before - but I sank deeper into the lake instead.

"Salamence!" I called when I finally managed to keep my head above the water. "Help me take the container!"

Salamence dived down easily and let the container float onto his wide, red wings.

As Salamence flew towards me, I reached out and caught one of Salamence's claws. He then carefully dragged me back to shore.

"Thanks," I said, taking the container out of Salamence's back. "Return and have a rest."

Emily had just reached there, with Cyndaquil running beside her. "Did you take a swim or something? Because you look soaked," she commented.

"I fell into that lake," I replied.

"Cynda," Cyndaquil ran up to me and flames brust out from its back.

"Thank you, Cyndaquil, I feel so much better now," I said, patting the Fire type Pokemon affectionately.

"So, can we conclude that we are all lost?" Emily asked.

I nodded with a sigh. "I wonder what we should do next."

"Maybe we could-" she began.

"Quil!" Cyndaquil's sudden cry interrupted Emily.

I turned around to see a red spider Pokemon taking Cyndaquil away.

"Stop!" Emily shouted, chasing after the Pokemon.

Three more spider-like Pokemon jumped in front of her, ready to attack if she went too close.

I fumbled for my Pokedex and pointed it at one of the Pokemon.

"Spinarak, the String Spit Pokemon. Spinarak can climb any surface easily, and shoot a strong web from both the front and back of its body. Its prey is caught and held tight in its web."

I then pointed my Pokedex at the one who seemed to be the leader and the one who took Cyndaquil.

"Ariados, the Long Leg Pokemon, and the evolved form of Spinarak. It attaches silk to its prey and sets it free. Later, it tracks the silk to the prey and its friends."

"There's no time to check your Pokedex," Emily said in frustration. "Cyndaquil is in trouble!"

Without another word, I sent Chikorita and Phanpy out. "Phanpy, use Rollout. Chikorita, use Ancient Power!"

The Spinarak launched out their attacks in return. While everyone was distracted, I didn't notice the Ariados escaping, with Emily chasing it.

One of the Spinarak used Spider Web on the ground, causing Phanpy's attack to be stopped and Phanpy to be stuck.

"Chikorita, free Phanpy with Razor Leaf," I said.

"Chiko!" Chikorita's Razor Leaf attack that cut Phanpy free.

"Phan!" Phanpy thanked Chikorita.

That's when I realised that the Spinarak and Ariados had escaped with Cyndaquil. Emily was gone as well.

What should I do?
