Chapter 1 - A Trainer's Beginning
"Wake up! It's breakfast time!" my mum called. "You better hurry, or all the starter Pokemon will be taken!"
"I'm coming!" I called back, grabbing a tooth-like thing - I did not know what to call it - and I rushed down the stairs.
"Mum," I called as I sat down at my seat at the dining table. "Do you know what's this? I have been meaning to ask you, but you were always so busy."
"Oh, I'm sorry," my mother apologised. "Now let me look at it."
She looked at it carefully and turned to me. "Where did you get this?"
"I found it outside," I replied. "What's wrong with it?"
"It's a Salamence tooth," she said. "Although there's hardly any in New Bark Town, the few here are very dangerous."
"I know mum," I sighed. "I heard all your stories before. You were in that region... Kalos I think? And then a random Salamence came and burned down the trees and nearly attacked you if your Wigglytuft didn't come out of its ball in time and save you."
"I know..." my mother sighed. "Those were the days... I could still remember getting my starter Pokemon, having a great journey with them. I hope you have the chance to see a legendary Pokwmon. I saw a glimpse of one, but it was enough to stun me."
"Chansey," my mother's Chansey walked in.
"I said chance to see, not Chansey," she laughed.
I laughed as well and said, "Well, I better be going now. Bye mom!"
"Wait!" my mother began, but I had already zoomed off in my scooter.
"Be careful of the Beedrill!" I managed to hear my mother's voice before I zoomed out of earshot.
"I know!" I shouted back, although I doubt that my mother could hear me.
I left my scooter outside Professor Elm's lab and I nervously stepped in.
"Can I help you?" I heard someone asking me.
I turned around to see an adult wearing a pair of glasses and a white lab coat.
"Yes," I replied. "Are you Professor Elm?"
"I am, and you must be here to pick your starter Pokemon," he said. "Follow me."
I followed the professor to another part of his lab and saw three Pokemon eating some Pokemon food.
"Here is your Pokedex," Professor Elm began to explain. "If you point it at a Pokemon, it should tell you all the information we know about it, or at least I hope so."
"Got it," I opened it and pointed it at the first Pokemon.
"Chikorita, the Leaf Pokemon. Chikorita uses the leaf on its head to scan for warmth and humidity in its surroundings, and loves to sunbathe."
"Chi!" Chikorita said, lifting its head up to greet me.
I patted it with a smile on my face before moving my Pokedex to the next Pokemon.
"Cyndaquil, the Fire Mouse Pokemon. Normally mild and even tempered, Cyndaquil will shoot a scorching flame out of its back when upset," my Pokedex reported.
"Cool," I commented as Cyndaquil sneezed, setting one of Professor Elm's newspapers - that he laid on the floor - on fire.
"Not again," he groaned, grabbing the newspaper and shaking it in attempt to extinguish the flame.
I chuckled in amusement before pointing my Pokedex at the last Pokemon.
"Totodile, the Big Jaw Pokemon. Totodile has a habit of using its highly developed jaws to chomp on anything in sight, so trainers beware."
"That's comforting," I commented as Totodile bit Professor Elm's hand.
"Ouch!" the professor managed to get his hand out of Totodile's jaws and he clutched his injured hand with his other one.
"So, which one do you want to pick?" he asked.
I looked carefully at the three starter Pokemon. Green, cyan and blue, I thought. Which one should I pick?
Finally, I bent down to look at one of the Pokemon. Its bright red eyes gazed at me anxiously as I smiled and carried it gently.
"I choose you, Chikorita. Will you be my partner?" I asked.
"Chiko!" Chikorita agreed happily.
"Okay, let's go!" I said excitedly. "Bye Professor Elm!"
"Wait!" he said, sounding a bit flustered. "You forgot your Pokeballs. You can only carry six Pokeballs at a time. If you catch more than six, feel free to send me the Pokemon. Also..."
Professor Elm took a case from a nearby table and handed it to me. "If you want to enter the Johto League, you need eight badges from various gyms in the Johto region. You can put the badges you earned in here."
"Noted," I acknowledged the professor's words.
I carried Chikorita and placed it on my shoulder. Chikorita looked a bit surprised at my action.
"Oh, I hope we could bond together better this way," I explained, feeling slightly embarrassed.
As we exit the laboratory, I jumped up with happiness. I can finally start my journey! I will train hard to become the best trainer ever!
"So, what moves can you use, Chikorita?" I asked.
"Chi!" Chikorita said, pointing at the Pokedex that was sticking out of my pocket.
I pulled it out and searched for my Chikorita's moves.
"Chikorita can use Tackle, Razor Leaf and Ancient Power currently," my Pokedex said.
"Ancient Power?" I said. "I wonder how you got that."
"Chiko," Chikorita said with a shrug.
"Well, now that's out of the way, where shall we go next?" I asked.
"Chiko," Chikorita pointed at the forest with its leaf.
"That's a great idea!" I said. "I could catch another Pokemon there!"
However, the moment I stepped near the forest, a large shape pinned me down.
"It's a Salamence..."
