CHAPTER 7 - DO YOU REMEMBER ME?

Previously in Pokemon Chaos and Order...

Serena finally opens up to Ash about her past and her problems. Trip and Miette reveal themselves as being the ones that were watching Ash and Serena back at the Dreamyard.

Nate is able to defeat the two with a 'little' help from a wild Eevee.

After Ash and Serena come back from Serena's trip down memory lane, it is revealed that the 'wild' Eevee that helped Nate, was actually Serena's in the past.

.......................................................................

Ash, Nate and Serena arrive in Nacrene City, though this a city with a Gym, Ash is adamant about moving forward and defeating one particular Gym Leader that he heard a lot about, Roxie, the Virbank City Gym Leader.

The three decided to stop at a nearby Pokemon Center. A facility found in nearly every town or city that provides free healthcare for any Pokemon in need. All Pokemon Center nurses wear a similar outfit and hairstyle and are given the codename Nurse Joy.

Hard to believe that only NOW our heroes are visiting one of these eh?

"Good evening!" The Nacrene City Pokemon Center Nurse Joy greeted our three heroes. "Your Pokemon will be back to perfect fighting fit in just a few minutes!" She assured them.

After Ash handed the nurse two trays full of Pokeballs, and his Pikachu, he went to the reception desk, hoping to rent some rooms for them to stay the night at. "Very well Mr. eh..." the reception desk clerk was a bit confused about Ash's last name. "Eh... it's Ketchum sir..." Ash responded."K-E-T-C-H-U-M..." "Okay then Mr. Ketchum, your rooms will be rooms 5A and 5E..."

Ash was a bit perplexed about the whole ordeal. "Uh excuse me sir, but I think I ordered three rooms..." he tried to argue as politely as he could. "I know, but unfortunately these are the only available rooms we have for Pokemon Trainers... just sign here please..." the clerk shows Ash a piece of paper.

Ash sighs and signs the paper. "Thank you Mr. Ketchum and..." the clerk starts to dig into his desk. He quickly stood up, holding two keys. "...And these are your keys!" "Thank you..." Ash responded, still trying to be polite.

Ash walks up to Serena and Nate. Nate was drawing something on his notebook and Serena was just petting Eevee while it sleeps (to create what I consider to be CUTENESS OVERLOAD!)

"Bad news guys!" Ash delivers the message. "There are only two rooms available, meaning two of us are going to have to share a room..." Nate and Serena looked at each other, then back at Ash.

"Well..." Serena stuttered. "I don't mind sharing the room..." "Neither do I..." Nate responds. "Now the question is, who gets the private room..." Ash then looks at Nate. "I think you should..."

Nate looked surprised. "Thanks but... why?" Nate asks (understandably might I add). Serena then looks at Ash, then at her Eevee, then at Nate. "Well... Eevee and I don't want to be alone and we're just more familiar with Ash that's all!" She said.

Ash flushed for a second, just NOW he noticed that he offered to share the room with Serena! "Well..." Nate said, before chuckling. "I understand... Hey check out my Dewgong picture!" He showed them his drawing, to break the awkward atmosphere.

"Not my best work, but I think it's pretty good!" Nate chuckled. Ash and Serena were about to give their commentary on the picture, before they heard something.

Ding. Ding. Ding Ding Ding!

Ash and Nate rushed over to the nurse to retrieve their Pokemon. Serena then realized that Eevee woke up. "Hey Eevee..." she greeted it. "How are you?" "Eevee..." it squealed in a cute but tired way.

Ash, Pikachu and Nate quickly returned. Serena looked over to the outdoors and saw that the sun wasn't touching the horizon just yet.

Serena spoke up, holding Eevee as if it was a baby. "Hey guys! The sun hasn't set yet, I think we should go and do as much things as we can before the sun sets!" Ash and Nate both agreed.

They walked outside, only to run into a crowd of people surrounding two people. One was Sawyer, and the other was another guy. He had black hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a white T-shirt with and orange tie and blue jeans.

By his side is a Pokemon. It was canine-like, with cream-colored fur that forms voluminous, white-tipped plumes and a three-pointed crest on its face. It has tufty, pointed ears with dark blue insides, and black nose surrounded by short black whiskers, and small eyes that are nearly hidden behind its facial fur. Its body is covered with shaggy fur that is dark blue along the back and grayish blue toward the legs. Its face and paws are light brown, and each paw has three toes with white claws.

"NOW STOUTLAND FINISH THIS WITH GIGA IMPACT!" Stoutland's Trainer commanded. Stoutland then jumped into the air and its body becomes surrounded in a purple aura with yellow stripes of aura spiraling around the purple aura. Stoutland then slams into its opponent.

Its opponent was a Pokemon that resembled a white sloth with brown jaws, red nose and 'hair' and long, sharp, black claws.

"VIGOROTH NO!!!!!!" Sawyer called out in distress as Stoutland's Giga Impact hit Vigorth head on. After the dust settled, Vigoroth lied down on the ground, unable to continue.

"VIGOROTH IS UNABLE TO BATTLE!" Exclaimed the referee. "STOUTLAND WINS ONCE MORE!" The referee was a dark-skined woman with large, bushy, teal-colored hair and teal eyes. (I won't be describing her clothes because I have no idea how to describe them, I'll let the picture explain)

"That is the twelfth consecutive battle MY SON has won! Doesn't anyone think they can defeat him?" The woman said, sounding like an ancient Greek queen for a second. "What'd'ya say Pikachu?" Ash turned over to Pikachu. "Wanna give it a shot?" Pikachu gave its Trainer an arm pump before the two stepped up.

"I'M ASH KETCHUM FROM PALLET TOWN AND I'M MORE THEN READY TO TAKE YOU ON..." "I'm sorry..." the boy, Cheren, interrupted Ash. "This is a tournament for pure Normal Type Pokemon only..."

Ash lowered his head before walking back to the group. The woman, Lenora, then noticed Serena and her Eevee. "YOU THERE!" Lenora pointed towards Serena. "Who?! Me?!" Serena asked in confusion. "Yes you! I think you should take him on!"

"B... b... but... I... I... I haven't battled in... in..." Serena stuttered. Ash and Nate both turned over to her, and encouraged her to accept the challenge. Seeing Ash's signature smile on his face was enough to give her enough courage to accept the challenge.

"Ready Eevee?" She turned over to her partner. "Are you ready to have your battling debut?" Eevee nodded happily before jumping forward.

"Alright then..." Lenora got back to her position as referee. "This is a one-on-one Pokemon battle. Everyone familiar with the rules?" They both nod. "Excellent! Battle BEGIN!" She exclaimed.

"We'll have a battle to be proud of..." Cheren said. "LET'S DO OUR BEST!" "YOU GOT IT! EEVEE! USE SWIFT!" Serena made the first move, causing Eevee's tail to glow a gold-ish color, before shooting out a barrage of golden, spinning stars at Stoutland.

"Protect..." Cheren said. Stoutland then barked once and caused a force-field to appear around it, blocking Eevee's Swift attack.

When the dust created by the collision of the stars with the force field settled, and Stoutland regain vision of the battlefield, Eevee was gone.

Cheren and Stoutland were both confused by Eevee's absence and frantically searched for it. "NOW QUICK ATTACK!" Serena swiftly commanded. Eevee then appeared from the air and became surrounded by a blue aura before striking Stoutland with blinding speed.

Everyone who watched the battle, including Cheren were astounded by what just happened. Ash then remembered something. 'This is just like the Quick Attack technique I used against Cilan's Pansage!' He thought. 'She barely ever battled before so she remembered something I used and used it to her advantage! That's the spirit of a great battler!"

"STOUTLAND USE FIRE FANG!" Cheren commanded. Stoutland opened its mouth and revealed that its teeth were now on fire. Stoutland then charged at Eevee with full speed. Serena was surprised by the move and was unsure of what to do.

"YOU CAN DO IT SERENA!" She heard Ash cheer her on, just as she cheered him in his Gym Battle. "EEVEE DODGE QUICK!" She commanded. Eevee quickly jumped out of the way of the flames and sparks that flew out of Stouyland's mouth as it bit down.

"NOW EEVEE! USE BABY-DOLL EYES!" Serena did a twirl and then winked at the 'camera' while giving her next order. Eevee's eyes then began to fill with sparkles, causing Stoutland's eyes to be filled with sparkles too, causing it to hesitate to attack.

"We're just getting started!" Serena proudly exclaimed. Cheren chuckled. "Music to my ears... STOUTLAND! USE PLAY ROUGH!" "USE QUICK ATTACK!" The two Trainers commanded their Pokemon, who both began to charge at the other.

Thanks to the Baby-Doll Eyes that Serena set up however, Stoutland hesitated for just one second, and that second was enough for Eevee to score a direct hit on Stoutland, sending it flying back.

"Wow! I didn't know Eevee's Quick Attack was so powerful..." Ash murmured to himself. "It's Eevee's Ability!" Nate explained. "It's called Adaptability, and it powers up the moves that are the same type as the user!"

Stoutland tried to get up, but Eevee's Baby-Doll Eyes convinced it to just let Eevee win. "Wow... Stoutland is unable to battle!" Lenora proclaimed in dull surprise. "I guess Eevee's the winner!" Serena started to jump up and down in excitement with her Eevee.

"Stoutland you did your best..." Cheren said, lowering his head and returning Stoutland to the Pokeball.

"So is that the same Lillipup, you had back in camp, Cheren?" Serena asked with a playful tone. Cheren looked up with a confused look on his face. "Huh?" "You know! Professor Oak's Pokemon Summer Camp!" Serena explained. "You had a Lillipup back then!" Cheren thought for a second and then remembered that he did indeed go to Professor Oak's Pokémon Summer Camp when he was younger.

"Well I don't exactly remember which camper you were" Cheren said. "But yes! This is the same Lillipup from way back then..." "Well then young lady..." Lenora walked up to Serena. "You were the first person to defeat my son in a long time... because of that I award you with THIS!" She gave Serena a badge. It was shaped like a purple spine of a book, similar to those found in libraries.

"WAIT WHAT?!" Serena said in surprise, not believing that she got an actual Gym Badge. "BUT I DIDN'T EVEN BATTLE IN A GYM BATTLE!" "But you beat me didn't you?" Cheren reminds her. "This is just proof of your achievement..."

Serena thinks for a moment and finally decides to accept the Gym Badge. "Thank you very much!" She thanked them before going back to her friends. "Congratulations Serena!" Nate was the first to say. "I didn't see that coming! How about you Ash?" Ash didn't answer Nate's question. He was too transfixed by his thoughts. 'She remembered that Cheren guy!' He thought. 'Maybe she DOES remember me...'

"Earth to Ash!" Nate said while waving his hand in front of Ash's face. "HUH?!" Nate snapped Ash out of his thoughts. "Serena just accidently won a Gym Badge!" He reminded Ash. "OH YEAH! Congrats Serena!" Ash shakes Serena's hand. Serena took one look over to the horizon and saw that the sun was almost completely gone behind the 'line where the sky meets the sea'.

"Wow! It's getting late!" Serena exclaimed. "We should head back to the Pokémon Center!" "RIGHT!" The two boys answered in unison. The three head back to the Pokémon Center and went into their rental rooms. Nate went to his room and Ash, Serena, Pikachu and Eevee went to theirs.

"Well guys! Good night!" Nate wished his two new friends for a good nights rest before winking. As you could've guessed, he already picked up on the signals that Ash and Serena were sending to each other. Ash and Serena didn't notice him winking and so they went to their room, after wishing him good night as well.

Ash and Serena each got changed in different rooms (for obvious reasons), Ash changed in the 'bedroom' part of their room, and Serena got changed in the bathroom. Serena wore the same pajamas that she wore back in Asperita City. Ash was wearing the same pajamas he wore in the X and Y series.

When the two of them finished changing, Ash brought his sleeping bag over to a couch that they had in the room and set it up for a good nights rest. Ash stretched his arm upwards, trying to relax it. "Well... Good night Serena..." Ash wished his friend who was tucking into bed. "G'night Ash..." she whispered back to him before the two seemingly fall asleep.

For around 45 minutes Ash was tossing and rolling around in his sleeping bag. No matter what he tried he just couldn't fall asleep. The thought of Serena remembering him or not just couldn't leave his mind. 'I gotta ask her about that!' He thought to himself. 'I can't ask her now! She's asleep. But if I wait for the morning then I won't be able to fall asleep... ARGH! I need some fresh air...' Ash got out of his sleeping bag and headed over to the balcony of the room they had.

Once he rubbed his eyes he saw that Serena was already at the balcony, staring at the sky, not saying a word. Almost like she's trying to think of something. "Serena?" Ash tried to communicate with the honey-haired girl, who suddenly gasped and turned around to see him standing there. "A... Ash?!" She stuttered. "Sorry... I didn't mean to scare you..." he said while rubbing the back of his head.

"It's okay..." she said in a hushed voice, almost like a whisper. Ash barely heard it. She got back to just staring at the sky, not saying a word. "A... Are you okay Serena...?" He asked, his voice filled with concern. Unlike all the previous times she was like this, she smiled, and spoke with a confident tone. "Yeah I'm okay!" She said. "I was just wondering..." she turned to look at Ash. "Wondering what?"

Serena then took a deep breath before looking into Ash's eyes with her sapphire ones. "Ash..." "Yeah?" "Do you remember me...?"

These four words suddenly hit Ash like a truck full of bricks. 'Do you remember me?' Ash was hoping beyond hope that she was talking about the time that he saved her back in the summer camp. She had been talking about it for a long time, but never seemed to realize that it was him. "If you mean what I think you mean..." Ash looked over to the full moon, then back to Serena. "I was just going to ask you the same question!"

Flashback, 8 years ago...

Serena was in Viridian forest, looking for a way out to no avail. "HELLO!" She called out scared. "IS THERE ANYBODY HERE?" She suddenly hears rustling in the nearby bushes, causing her to yelp and fall to a tree root.

"OW!" She cried, looking at her wounded knee. The source of the rustling then revealed itself to be 2 Pokémon. One of them was a small, ground-dwelling Pokémon with pale yellow fur. Its ear tips, collar, and tail are black and angular. Its tiny nose looks like a dot. The other was a quadruped, frog-like Pokémon. It has light blue skin, white hands, and a dark blue stripe from the center of its oval head to its nose. Its eyes, which have yellow sclera, black irises, and white pupils, protrude vertically from its head due to their size.

"Pi Pi Pichu!" "Fro Kie Kie Fro!" The cried, before looking over at Serena, who looked terrified. Froakie and Pichu then heard something and climb to a nearby tree to hide. "I knew I didn't want to go to camp..." she whimpered. "I knew it... MOMMY!"

Serena then suddenly heard another rustling sound from the bushes. She lets the tears flow as she closes her eyes, preparing for what's to come.

"Pichu... Froakie..." a voice called out from the bushes. Then a boy started to emerge from said bush. It was Ash. Ash was looking for the treasure (remember this was a treasure hunt) and the item he was assigned to search for is a Thunder Stone.

Ash quickly stopped in his tracks after seeing Serena. "Hey, are you okay?" He asked her, causing her to slowly open her eyes. "Hi! I'm Ash! What's your name?" Serena kept whimpering. "What's wrong?" He asked her as he kneeled next to her. "I... hurt... my... leg..." she tried to say through tears.

Ash took one look at her wound and began to smile. "Don't worry!" He exclaimed. "See this?" He said while pulling out a handkerchief from his pants pocket. "This'll make it better!" Ash started to tie the handkerchief around Serena's knee. "All done!"

Serena whimpered again. "It still hurts! I can't stand up!" She cried. Ash got up, and grabbed onto both of her hands. "DON'T GIVE UP TILL IT'S OVER 'K?" He exclaimed proudly before picking her up.

Serena however, still couldn't stand up, and as soon as she stood up, she fell straight back down. "OW!" She cried out in pain. Ash had to think of a way to bring her back to safety, and since she couldn't walk, he decided that he would just pick her up and carry her back to the camp. Ash picked her up and put her on his back.

"What... What are you... What are you doing?" She whimpered. "I can't just leave you here!" Ash said. "You're coming back to camp!" Ash started to walk, with Serena desperately holding on for dear life around his neck and collar.

'She's still scared...' he thought to himself. 'This always works on Pichu... maybe she'll like it too...' Ash suddenly stopped. He then stomped his foot on the ground a few times. "What's going on?" She asked, still crying. "3... 2... 1... BLAST OFF!" Ash yelled before starting to gallop around like a happy Sawsbuck.

Serena was taken aback by this, and at first she was frightened. But after a few seconds, she actually began having fun. Her crying face had transformed into a huge smile, she even began to laugh. She never felt so much joy in her life.

She began to look around and saw that Pichu and Froakie have dropped down from the tree and started to run after them. She then looked to the trees and saw Pidgeys, Caterpies, Nidorans (both male and female) and much more! She was finally able to appreciate her surroundings like they deserve to be appreciated.

They finally arrived back at camp, seeing that most of the other campers (including Cheren) have already found the items that they needed. Ash told the camp nurse that "the girl" was hurt, and that she needed medicine.

The nurse nodded and picked the girl up from Ash's back. Serena then looked back at Ash while being carried away. "THANK YOU!" She calls out. "AND BY THE WAY! MY NAME IS SERENA!"

Back to the present...

Ash and Serena both realized that their suspicions were correct. Ash was indeed the boy who saved Serena back in camp and Serena has indeed remembered Ash. The two of them couldn't think about what they were about to say, so they just embraced, happy that they were now OFFICIALY reunited.
