Chapter 31: Homecoming

"What just happened?" Sierra asked Chase. "You're the Pokemon know-it-all, so which Pokemon were they?"

After the tower incident, the PokeChasers had moved on to Route 7. Now they were approaching Twist Mountain.

"I'm not sure," Chase replied. "I've never seen them before."

"I have," Chris said with a stern look on her face. "Those were the legends of Unova."

"What!" Chase exclaimed.

"What's the big deal?" Sierra asked. She'd only moved to Unova recently. She used to live with her cousin, Melody, in the Kalos region. She was still learning the folklore of this region.

"The legends of Unova," Chase told her. "Are Zekrom and Reshiram. Zekrom was- is an electric and dragon type, were as Reshiram is a fire an dragon type."

"Long ago these two Pokemon battled one another and almost destroyed Unova and themselves. When they were almost dead, they transformed into stones."

"The black and white stones that Clay gave me in Driftveil City were Zekrom and Reshiram. Zekrom's the black stone and Reshiram's the white one."

Sierra stared into the white stone she was carrying. "So I'm holding a legendary Pokemon in my hands."

"Yup!" Chase said, a tone of excitement creeping into his voice. "It is said that the stones will awake only when two worthy heroes present themselves-"

"And we're those heroes," Sierra finished. She couldn't believe it. She'd only been traveling for about a month and was already in possession of a legendary Pokemon.

"Hey, another Pokemon!" Chase pointed to a tall, gray, flying type Pokemon that was crossing the route in front of them. "I call dibs!" he shouted, and ran ahead, leaving Sierra and Chris to talk.

"So," Sierra began. "How'd it go at the top of the tower?"

"Well," Chris talked to the ground, not turning to Sierra when she talked. "When I got to the top I had to deal with Adam, and-"

"Wait, Adam?"

"I said Plasma. Team Plasma." Chris mentally sighed with relief. "Nice save," she thought.

"There were three on top. Phil, Collin, and the leader."

Something about those names sounded familiar to Sierra, but she couldn't remember where she had heard them.

"What was the leader's name?" Sierra asked, hoping it would help her remember.

"I didn't catch his name," Chris had a look on her face like she was trying to hide something, but Sierra didn't press her.

"Anyway, I had to battle their leader, and in the middle on the battle, Mini launched such a powerful Psybeam that the guy's Pokemon smashed into the bell and-"

"Knocked it off?"

"Yeah. Anyway, then the roof fell in after that and I was able to find a handhold. I didn't get to see Zekrom though," Chris said, obviously disappointed.

"What happened to the Team Plasma guys?"

"I don't know. I was to focused on hanging on to see what happened."

"I have to tell her about Adam," Chris thought. She mustered up her courage and said, "Sierra, I have to tell you something about Adam."

"What?"

"You see, he's working for Team Pla-"

Chase cut her off. "I hope you're ready for some spelunking, cause we're going into Twist Mountain!" They had arrived at the end of Route 7, where the path was cut off by a huge cliff.

"Well, into the cave it is!" Sierra said cheerfully, and she ran into the cave.

"Hey, wait up!" Chase called after her, and he ran into the cave as well.

"Well, it was worth a shot," Chris thought aloud. She then stepped into the cave and was consumed by the darkness.

******************************************

After hours of getting lost in the cave and Sierra criticizing Chase's sense of direction ("Trust me!" he said. "I've studying maps of this place for years!"), they finally rounded a corner and saw the light of day.

"If this is the beginning of the cave," Sierra began. "I'm going to kill you."

Chase half heard her. He was worrying about Chris. Ever since the tower fell, she had seemed less cheerful and had been more quiet. She kept to herself and hung back, rather then joining in Chase and Sierra's conversations.

"Chase, did you hear and anything I just said?" Sierra asked him.

"Actually, no," Chase told her as the exited the cave. He was temporarily blinded by the sunlight, but once his vision cleared, a huge smile broke out onto his face.

He turned to face Sierra and Chris. "Welcome to Icirrus City," he said, obviously excited.

"This is where I grew up. This is my home."
