(Y/n's pov)
"(Y/n) I know you're still young and you'd rather be training with your Pokemon but if you could watch my son for a couple of days while we're out of town that would be great.", Norman spoke with his usual gruff tone.

"Of course Mr.Norman I'd love to. I've always wanted to meet Lil Ruby.", I smiled as I continued getting ready to head to Goldenrod City.

"Thank you (Y/n). You've always been a helpful young lady.", Norman chuckled as he ended the call.

"All right babysitting Lil Roob! I saw him once or twice when he was just an infant so I don't think he recognizes me anymore but oh well! Come on Todo!", I cheered as my Tododile hopped onto my shoulder.

My Noctowl gave me a lift to Goldenrod City and soon enough I was in front of Norman's house. I knocked on the door excitedly and waited for someone to open up. Eventually Mr. Norman's wife opened up and boy was she ever do excited to see me.

"Oh my Arceus! (Y/n) is that you?!", She smiled as she hugged me.

"Yup! Long time no see.", I grinned.

"You've gotten so big. What a wonderful young lady you've turned into.", She smiled as she continued to complement me.

I blushed as I entered the house, "I'm only eleven, nothing special...."

I noticed a young boy sitting on the stairs, he was wearing red and black clothing and a white hat, he had gorgeous red eyes to. That's when I pieced it together and realised that it was Ruby.

"Oh my Arceus is that Ruby?", I smiled seeing the young boy react to his name.

"Huh oh Ruby you came downstairs. Come here Son I'd like to introduce you to someone.", The little boy slowly made his way to his mother's side and hid behind her legs, "Hehe Ruby this is (Y/n). You probably don't remember her but she used to come visit you alot when she was little."

The little boy waved shyly at me before returning to his hiding spot behind his mother. Norman showed up with two briefcases in hand. Ruby's parents were going to a conference in Blackthorn City so I was staying with Ruby to watch over him. Ruby's mother adjusted his shirt and kissed his cheek before leaving and it interested me when I realized that Norman said nothing to his son and Ruby's body language changed.

Soon enough it was just me and Ruby. I walked up to young child and squatted down till I was at his eye level, "So what do you want to do Ruby?"

"Leave me alone...", The young boy growled as he rushed upstairs to his room.

"Todo....tododile.", Todo whined.

"Yeah I noticed it to buddy, that there is the most broken little boy I've ever seen.", I sighed.

I pulled my (h/c) hair up into a ponytail and walked into the kitchen, I hated seeing people sad. It was an ability I was born with I could sense things in both people and pokemon just by listening to their hearts and Ruby was the most broken I had seen yet. He was young but I don't know what he has gone through to be this sad but the least I can do is make him feel better.

I quickly made him some of my mother's famous squirtle soup (fav/soup w/squirtle squirtle shaped veggies) and took it up to his room. His door was locked so I knocked but no response.

"Hey Roob I brought you dinner. Come on out and eat with me, I brought some special pokemon food for your partners s-"

"Go away or you'll be scared of me just like her!", He screamed, tears dripped from my eyes when I felt his heart resonating a painful feeling. (A/n: like Steven when he felt Blue Diamond's pain!)

This boy needed serious emotional help, he was more broken than I thought.

"Imma climb through his window."

"Todo!!!! Todo-Tododile Todo!!", My partner complained as I set the food tray down by the door and made my way to the backyard.

"You are not stopping me.", I puffed as I started climbing the tree closest to Ruby's room.

I needed to help him even if he doesn't trust me I needed to help him.

(Ruby's pov) (A/n: remember he's only like 6-7!)
I heard the door from downstairs, I guess I made (y/n) mad and she ran away just like my friend. I huddled underneath my bedsheets my three pokemon worried for me at the foot of my bed. After I scared away my friend I decided that I wouldn't be a brute in battle anymore especially since it made Dad change to.

My ears perked at the sound of Nana's bark as she growled at my window. I peeked out through my sheets and my red hues widened when I saw (Y/n) climbing in through my window. Nana instinctively attacked her as Coco and Ruru protected me, you yelped in pain as Nana bit into your forearm. I gasped seeing you with a look of fear and pain, it happened again I hurt someone.

"Oww...g-good girl. If an intruder was gonna hurt Ruby you'd certainly be a great protector owww....", You giggled through the pain as blood started to seep from your wound.

I quickly called Nana off and turned on my bedroom lights to see you hiding your arm and leaves in your hair. I jumped as my bedroom door swung open revealing your angry Tododile.

"How many times do I have to tell you not to pick lock doors?!", (Y/n) puffed with a smile at her partner.

I remembered her injury and quickly ran to the bathroom to get the first aid kit. (Y/n) smiled at me as I ran towards her with the small white box, I didn't know what to do but I remembered what my mom did for the wound on my head so I just repeated what she did. Soon I had bandaged (Y/n)'s injury and felt guilty as I continued to stare at her arm.

"Ruby.", She called out my name softly as I looked up at her my face heated up as she embraced me.

(Y/n)'s hug was so warm and I felt safe in her arms, my small arms wrapped around her neck as we continued to hug.

"Thank you Ruby. For taking care of me.", She smiled as she pulled away from the hug and sat on the floor.

I stared at her before I finally smiled back, (Y/n) was really pretty and even though she was injured all she cared about was me, even though I've been so mean to her she's only worried about me.

"I-I'm sorry about Nana biting you....a-and for being so mean to you.", I apologized as I stared down at the floor in guilt.

(Y/n) said nothing and her Tododile just smiled at me, eventually my growling tummy broke the silence and once again I felt myself blush in embarrassment.

"How about we grab you something warm to eat?", (Y/n) smiled picking me up into her arms, "For a six year old you sure are small."

"I-I'm seven a-and my Mom says I'm bigger than most kids my age!", I growled.

"Ok whatever you say short stack."

The next three days with (Y/n) were the happiest I had been since that Salamance attack and boy was I sad the day my parents came back.  (Y/n) wouldn't come back since she'd be starting her journey but it was when I finally got to know her that I wished that I could grow up already. (Y/n)'s pretty and caring and really sweet.

(Extended Ending! 10 years later! Narrator's pov)
The (h/c) haired champion smiled as she finally arrived in Hoenn, she'd finally get to see Norman and his family after a decade long journey. You were defeated as Johto champion by a Ravenette with Golden hues and boy were you happy.

"Hmmm let's see Littleroot town should be somewhere around her-", the young (h/c) haired lady squeaked as she was pressed against a tree.

As she looked up her (e/c) hues met familiar red ones and a blush spread across her cheeks. She recognized the young man from anywhere.

"Who's the short stack now, (Y/n)~", Ruby teased as he leaned in closer till his lips were pressed against yours.

You blushed bright red as your childhood friend stole your first kiss and as he continued to kiss you you realised that his heart wasn't the broken one it was before, it was strong and filled with confidence. This definitely wasn't the boy you meet ten years ago but boy were you happy to see how much he'd change.
