Chapter 1: The Mahogany Door

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy, Luna Lovegood, J.K. Rowling does, etc...

I was walking down the halls of my mansion. Years have passed since the war. Since I had become a death eater.
I had lost the mark. It faded, along with the Dark Lord's power. Not at first, but then suddenly all at once.
That's the same as falling in love with her. Not at first, then all at once.
I continued my march through the halls. There was nothing to do here, and I couldn't go out either. The Malfoy name had been stained with cowardliness and fear, thanks to my father. If it weren't for him, I'd still be important. It'd still matter to people if something happened to me.
I stopped at the top of the stairs. I took in the sight. Large entrance, front door made of mahogany, chandelier hanging from the ceiling, shiny floor, all in perfect condition. Ever since my house elf, Dobby, was set free, we had to start cleaning ourselves, and ever since the war, I had a lot of free time to clean the whole house twice a day.
Then there was a knock at the door. We hadn't had visitors in years. I was stunned. I didn't move. Who could it have been?
They knocked again, shaking me out of my confusion. I hurried down the stairs and opened the door for the first time in years.
It was creaky. Very creaky. It needed oiling. The fresh air blew at my face and hair. I almost forgot what that felt like. I must've been so pale, never leaving the house in what, 10 years?
I looked at the man who knocked on the door. I nearly choked on my own tongue.
It was Potter.
Harry Potter.
"Draco," Harry still had the same old glasses. His scar was still there, just a bit faded, as it wasn't receiving painful signals from the Dark Lord any longer. He was wearing an Auror's outfit. He extended his hand for me to shake.
I took it. So long since I had felt another wizard, or even been near one.
I didn't know how to act, so I decided to be formal, and act like the last ten years didn't exist and there never was a Lord Voldemort.
"Mr. Potter, very nice to see you."
"Draco, I know it's been ten years, but call me Harry," dammit, Harry, now how am I supposed to act?
"Very well, Harry. What brings you here?"
"Ginny and I are getting married." He smiled.
"Congratulations, but I do not see how this affects me, as I am neither the groom, nor the bride," is this what I have become? A word vomiting baboon? It is so embarrassing, I think I blushed red enough to be mistaken for an over grown and oddly shaped tomato.
"No, Draco, I'm here to invite you to our wedding," Potter said between stifled laughs.
"I am flattered Harry, believe me, I am, but I do not think I can make it," seeing all those people after ten years? After what I had done? I'd make an even bigger fool of myself.
"Why not?"
Yes Draco, why not? That's a perfectly reasonable question that you don't have the answer to.
"I have a family get together to attend to that day. I really would love to come, but I haven't seen my father in a decade." Good job Draco, of all the family members you could have mentioned, you had to choose Lucius Malfoy.
"Draco, that is a very legitimate reason not to come." Harry stared at me seriously through his round glasses.
"Yes, yes it is."
"Too bad I haven't told you the date yet."
The look on my face was so hideous. I saw my reflection in Harry's spectacles. I looked like I was half realizing my stupidity and the other half constipated.
Draco you IDIOT! How could you do something that stupid!
"Ah, you're right Mr. Potter-"
"Harry."
"Harry, right. Very well then I believe I am free that day then, have a nice morning, goodbye!" I tried shutting the door but Harry caught it as soon as I reached my arm out for the mahogany door.
"Bloody hell Draco, what's the matter? You still don't know the date!"
"You're right," I swore at myself in my head. "What is the date, Mr. Potter?"
"For the last time, call me Harry! And it's June 23rd." Harry still had his hand on the door, as did I.
"June 23rd? That's in three days?"
"Well, yes but we've been planning it for a while now."
"And you're just sending out invitations today? That doesn't seem like you."
"No, we have already sent the invitations out. Your's we forgot to mail..."
"Ah, I see. Well, good day Harry." I went to close the door but Harry had stuck his foot in the door this time.
"Why do you not want to come? Is it because of the war? Is it because we have not spoken in 10 years?"
"No, not at all, Mr. Pot-Harry. Not at all."
"Then what is it?"
I hesitated.
"It's because of the war and the fact that we haven't spoken in ten years! Draco, we may have been enemies back at Hogwarts but I have put that behind us. We all have. You were pressured by your father to be a certain way and you obeyed. I understand that, I would've done the same. Ginny, Ron, Hermione, Luna, everybody understands you. We forgive you. Draco, please come? It would be amazing to have all of us together again."
"Mr. Potter, I was not pressured by my father to act a certain way and yes, we were enemies at Hogwarts so I don't see how it's possible to have "all of us together again," if we were never together in the first place. I have given you my answer, now please leave my estate. Good day, Mr. Potter." And with that, I slammed the door in his face.
