VI
Archer Miles hated to lose.
I knew him since I was a kid in pigtails, and if I knew anything about him, it would be that he hated to lose. And oh, he hated me with a passion.
Combining the two: he hated losing to me.
I, on the other hand, dreaded seeing Archer Miles face, every single day. He embarrassed me every single chance he got. He distributed flyers when I got my first period - yes, he was that petty.
Archer Miles was an obnoxious, spoiled brat, who wanted everything to be done his way. He pushed me past the breaking point, and I snapped. Packed my bags. Enrolled in a college five hours away.
I believe everyone has a story. And every story has a villain.
And, Archer Miles was mine.

'Are you going to spend the whole day staring at my face?'
I blink. The sun hits down on my upturned face, and in a flash I'm grounded back to the present. I take a cautious step back.
'I didn't know it was you.' I retort, moving away from his car. I turn around, curling my palms into fists. My arms are shaking. Why are they shaking?
I hear a car door shut, and then Archer is right beside me.
'What happened to your car?'
He has obscured his dark, devilish eyes with equally dark RayBans.
'Broke down.' I reply sourly.
He rolls up the sleeves of his shirt. 'Pop up the bonnet.'
'You don't have to help.' I turn away again, trying my best to get away from him.
'I don't mind, Kaitie.'
My name sounds strange on his lips. It infuriates me, all the stored, suppressed anger rising up to the surface.
'I don't think you understood what I meant, Miles. I don't want your help.'
He actually has the audacity to look hurt.
'Look, Kaitie. You need help. I don't mind at all. So stop being a whiny bitch and pop up the bonnet.'
Actually, he wasn't even hurt at all.
Huffing indignantly, I open up the bonnet. Archer leans over the engine, tweaking away.
'Your cooler is busted. The engine is overheating.'
'Meaning?'
'Meaning you need a mechanic. And that this car is going nowhere.'
I kick at the car tire in frustration.
I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere with my arch nemesis by my side. And oh, I dreamt that I would be.
Shocker.
'I could drop you off. Where were you headed to?'
I pull at my hair. 'Look. I know how you feel about me, and you know how I feel about you.'
'Crazy about each other?' Archer smirks, dimples and all.
'Shut up. Just go away. I literally can't stand being remotely close to you.'
Archer's smirk fades, and it is replaced with the scowl I'm very well acquainted with.
'No one is going to help you.'
I tilt my chin up. 'I'll take my chances.'
'You are hopeless, McBarrow.' Archer walks away angrily, towards his Ferrari. He gets in, turns up the music, and yells, 'See you on Monday, sweetie!' before speeding away.
I swear to God that I would be the one to kill him.
I sigh. If I don't burn up in the sun and die, that is.
