long the journey

thoroughfares and wild lands

3 AM sky is a velvet portrait

scintillating starspoints

and a high white moon

smiling

domiciles tucked away

and tiny tickle villages

twinkle in celebration

and the gleam of the headlights

is swallowed by the darkness of the night

daylight

just hours distant

the got-to-get-home-for

day of all days

anticipation

a warmth at journey's outset

now joy-laden excitement

as the sun rises over the Rock

proffering a gift

wrapped in a patina of companionship

I walk through the door

an affection of bonhomie

in a glass

is raised and soon another

goodwishings and thanksgivings

all around the Pub
