Mensch Aergere Dich Nicht (Gailrunschke)
MENSCH AERGERE DICH NICHT
Happy Christmas Eve, Tony.
I know you've been a good boy.
I can not give you a pony
But I shall give you a nice toy.
'Tis a special German game.
Right above you'll see its name.
By now you will remember
We played it each December
When Santa came to our house.
You were quiet as a mouse.
You and I played together
In snowy, wintry weather.
I'm thinking of you today
And you'll soon be on your way.
Now Santa's waiting at home
While I'm writing this poem.
We both wish you a smooth flight,
Looking forward to Christmas night.
You will be very busy
Setting up the Christmas tree.
You can also roast the goose
And some of our frozen moose,
Make dumplings, cook red cabbage.
Now don't bring too much baggage.
We have plenty of warm clothes
To fit you from head to toes.
Tante Gerlinde sent socks.
Promise I won't cook pork hocks.
I've stacked the wood for the fire,
Could not make the piles higher.
We will sip gluhwein from mugs.
Best wishes, love and warm hugs,
From Santa and Mom.
