You order unsweet tea,
Because the bitterness reminds you of the words he left you with.

But you still remember to get sweet tea, to let the sugary substance stain the insides of your mouth,
Just like his promises did.

Because bitterness hides behind everything sweet,
And it waits till it sits upon your tongue,
So it can do the same to everyone else.
But you don't let it.
You let it destroy yourself.
And drink in the bitter words as you stare into the mirror,
Wondering why on earth he left.

And you tell yourself that you're the reason he left.
Because you didn't beg him to stay,
Or tell him why you wouldn't let him go.
Instead you hung up the phone,
And let all the sugar from the tea dissolve,
