Thirty-One

Bitter-sweet hazelnut touching

A warm sandpaper tongue

Bits stuck in the cracks

Of un-straightened teeth

An angelic giggle

Bursts through the home

Filled with the comforting smell

Of chocolate melting

Tiny chubby fingers swirl in the air

Calling for more cookies

Warm as summer's air

Eyelids start to become weary

Of a long forgotten day

Gleaming eyes are hidden

Chin kisses neck

As a head is a bit too heavy

A scar on a soft pale stomach

Rushes to a sunset red

A nose stops moving in rhythm

While a beat in a chest

Begins to slow

A head full of nothingness

Falls to a table

Of a cold comfy highchair

A splatter of white frosting

Is a warning of its purity

Being lost and locked away

A scream erupts from a kettle

Marking the time

Of a mother's suffering

A father's addiction

A child's death
